CHAPTER FOURTEEN.

 I was sitting across the yard while sipping the punch mom made. Even on new year's day, alcohol's banned! This mother of mine.

 I'm the head Alpha yet I have no say in the pack. Even I myself is banned from taking alcohol!

 Sitting on the stool, I have a clear view of mom and Lucien talking. The topic must have been a sensitive one cause I saw Lucien crying at some point.

I sighed and turned my head away only for my gaze to clash with Nova's. She was standing with her father who was conversing with some elderlies in the pack. She must have noticed me staring cause she was glaring daggers.

" Lucien!" Mom's voice suddenly reached my ears.

 I turned towards their direction, my pupils constricting as I watched Lucien fall to the ground with pain evident in his eyes.

 I threw the glass aside and crossed the yard in large strides.

" Stay back!" Lucien yelled, rendering everyone immobile.

 We all stood a considerable amount of distance away from him. If he's really going into heat, we'll have to evacuate all wolves from the yard.

" Lucie!" I heard a voice yell out and a figure run forward to hold Lucien.

" Xavier! Don't touch him!"

 Xavier didn't listen to anyone and held his brother tight. He kept on whispering to him, even I couldn't make out a word he said.

 Lucien suddenly raised his head and stared straight into my eyes. Something clicked in me and Rhys who has gone AWOL since Nova got here, suddenly connected himself back to me.

 ' MATE! ' He yelled in my head but I wasn't really paying attention.

I was staring into Lucien's eyes. They were Silver, not white not platinum, but silver. We locked eyes for a long while before his eyes suddenly retuned back to their normal mismatched eyes.

Lucien slowly stood up and we backed up more. He seemed tolerant to pain and he was even able to rein in his pheromones. The moment he stood, his eyes flickered back to silver. They kept flickering back and forth to their normal mismatched colors then silver.

 Mom grabbed Xavier and Anna, dragging them away from Lucien and walking towards me.

" No one goes near him!" she commanded.

 I was about to ask why when I saw Lucien fall to the ground again. He dug his nails into the soil, or rather I say, claws.

 No way! He's shifting! On his first heat!

 We all moved back the moment we heard a cracking sound. Being a late bloomer, and shifting on his first heat, there's a high chance that Lucien might snap and go rogue. He might attack us in his dazed state.

 Rhys wasn't having it though. He kept yelling in my head and fighting for control. He wanted to be with Lucien but I couldn't allow that.

 ' Don't just stand there! Go to him! He's our mate! '

" Don't be rash Rhys." I stated calmly " Alpha Colton might target him and Nova's no lass reckless. If his shifting process gets disrupted, he'll go rogue and he might never return to the Lucien we know."

 That seems to calm him down as he settled for pacing about in my head.

 Another cracking sound was heard, followed by Lucien's muffled grunts. He was trying to hold it in but even I know how painful a first shift can be. As his bones cracked and rearrange, furs shot out of his pale body. His hair loosen and cascaded down his shoulders.

 Even at a time like this, he looked beautiful. I know I shouldn't be thinking of something like this at such a time but, he's a really beautiful omega.

 Soon, Lucien's shift was complete and I couldn't help but widen my eyes with the other onlookers.

 Standing in the midst of shredded clothes, was a Beta size wolf. That wasn't the surprising part. The wolf was Silver!

 An omega just shifted into a Beta size wolf and a Silver one at that!

  The wolf opened its eyes and locked eyes with me. I found myself staring into a pair of glowing Silver iris.

 The wolf slowly stood on all four before stretching it limbs. It looked dumbfounded and silly. After confirming that it was safe to walk, it ran forward.

 I fell backwards from an unexpected impact from a huge Silver wolf. It stood on top of me, staring down and straight into my eyes. I couldn't help but stare back.

 It raised it head and howled loudly before slumping down on me. It buried it head in the crook of my neck while sniffing me continuously.

" Wh.... What's going on?"

" A silver wolf?"

" It looks beautiful! "

" Wait! " Xavier suddenly shot forward " Why's Lucie lying down on you? He'll rather die than do that. What's going on? "

" Nothing. " I tried to stand but it seems it got angry by my denial as it bit down on my arm.

" Lucie!" Xavier reprimanded but he didn't move from his spot.

" Okay. Calm down and get off me first." I tried to persuade " its not like I'm running or anything. I'm here, aren't I?"

 It didn't bulge for a while but it eventually did and slowly got off me. I slowly stood up while patting it head.

 Mom tried to walk forward but a growl from Lucien's wolf was enough to make her stop dead in her tracks.

" Well, ain't that something." Adrian walked forward while laughing and stood beside me, totally unfazed by the growling.

" What's going on here?" Alpha Colton walked forward with a frown.

" Well since we're all here, I had an announcement to make." I cleared my throat.

" Rhaegal.... "

" Lucien's my fated mate." I said loud and clear.

  The yard fell into silence as everyone had different expressions on their faces. Some were surprised while some seemed unconvinced. Two were surprised and angry at the same time.

" Lucien.... Lucie is your mate?" Xavier asked for clarifications.

" He just proved it didn't he? " I raised an eyebrow " It's like you said, he'll rather jump into an icy river than Jump me. And I'm pretty sure my wolf is not defective either. "

 That seemed to work as they all believed he was my mate. Coupled with his reputation in the pack and the fact that he just acted intimate with me, and wouldn't stop biting down on my pant leg, asking for attention, it was obvious we were mates.

" Never!" a loud voice rang across the quiet yard " You can't be mates! I'm the one you're getting engaged to, I'm the future Luna of this pack! You can't find your mate! I won't accept it! You can't leave me for that white haired vixen! I'll make sure-"

 A loud growl cut Nova off as Lucien's wolf stood up on all fours, murderous intent oozing off it. Nova stumbled back and hid behind her father. We could all feel the murderous aura flaring from him.

" Ah!" Adrian suddenly laughed " You should watch what you say ' future Luna '. Wolves are very protective of what's theirs and we all know how overprotective Lucien can be. You've witnessed it firsthand and even I wasn't spared."
