CHAPTER TWELVE.

" What has gotten into you Ray?"

" What do you mean?" it's never good when she calls me that....

" Tell me the truth. Do you like Lucien?"

 I felt my heart leap to my throat. I should have known something was up the moment she called that name. But most importantly....

 How did she know that?! It's not like I was being upfront about it and I barely talk to Lucien. Every time he sees me, he never bothers to hide his hatred for me. A bit of fear included, but it's 90% hatred.

" I know you Ray." mom shook her head " You can't hide something like this from me. I saw how you kept staring at him yesterday, your line of sight never trailed of from him."

 I couldn't say anything to counter that, but I didn't know i was being so obvious. It's not like I couldn't deny it but Rhys will nag me till thy kingdom comes so...

" I'm just not sure yet." I muttered.

" Rhaegal. What's going on?"

" Okay. Don't freak out, Cause I'm not sure about this either....." I scratched my head and tried to phrase my words properly " Rhys thinks Lucien might be....my mate."

Silence. Pin drop silence. I was actually expecting that from mom and Adrian but the silence is killing me already.

" Well, say something." I groaned.

" What do you want us to say?" Adrian smiled "it's a bit shocking, you know."

" You make it sound like it's a bad-"

" It's not a bad thing Ray, infact, I'm glad you could find your fated mate." mom suddenly frowned " But if Lucien turns out to be your real mate, we'll have to call off the engagement between you and Nova.

" I have no objections and I'm sure your father wouldn't either, but everyone knows how much Nova likes you. Her father wouldn't agree to this either. Whatever his daughter wants, he'll make sure to fulfill it. It might cause a war between our packs."

" Mom." I held her shoulders " You don't have to worry about it. I'm not sure if Lucien's really my mate so we'll just have to wait till his first heat."

" Right, about that. " mom furrowed her brows " I think that period might be just around the corner. I performed some test on him when he first got here, so it's highly possible that he might go into heat soon."

" Soon? Can I get an estimated date? "

" Well calculating the time he's been staying here, I'll say, a week at least. It might be more than that."

" We'll monitor him till then. It'll be dangerous for him if he suddenly goes into heat out of nowhere. They're a lot of young unmated wolves in the pack. "

" I don't think you have anything to worry about." Adrian rolled his eyes "He's not someone who socialize with people. The only place he's probably going to go into heat, is his bedroom."

" Alright that's enough talking." Mom held her head " Don't tell anyone about it. Go settle Alpha Colton and Nova."

 We all dismissed as Adrian and I walked to my office.

" Rhaegal." Alpha Colton shot up from the couch with an angry look "What is the meaning of this?! Just look at the state she's in. You didn't do anything about it and just watched on!"

" Your daughter attacked my pack members." I stated calmly " She attacked Adrian's mate and his elder brother. My little sister was with them. If my pack members were pushover, what would have happened to my Beta's mate?

" She wants to be the future Luna of my pack but she doesn't act like one. What kind of Luna tries to claw out their pack member's eyes just because they found their fated mate?"

 " But still-"

" Alpha Colton. " I cut him off " You and I both know this is nothing but a marriage of convenience. I can forego a lot of things but attacking my pack members and family is out of the equation. "

" I understand." Alpha Colton calm down and sighed " Right. I forgot to tell you the other time. Nova and I plan to stay here till New Year. Maria went to visit her parents in North Carolina so it's just me and Nova. "

" Of course. We have a lot of empty rooms in the pack house. Adrian will show you the way." I smiled slightly.

 It's not like I couldn't reject him, but considering what just happened and the fact that he didn't pursue the matter any further, it will be for the best not to provoke him.

  Besides, Nova can't get to Lucien. He's not a weak wolf himself. And she'll have to think twice about attacking Xavier again.

  Adrian nodded at me before walking out with the father and daughter pair.

" Oh and Ms Scott?." she stopped and turned towards me " Xavier's Adrian mate. Please remember that. And it's best if you stay away from Lucien, he's a bit..... Overprotective."

 Nova's face twisted as she scoffed and walked out.

 I slumped back on my chair with complicated emotions. I wasn't sure about Lucien but the signs were there and I just couldn't ignore it.

Two days after Christmas.....

  " Hey!" Anna yelled from the top of the stairs, attracting everyone's attention " I just found out a secret! It's Lucien's birthday! I mean Lucien's birthday is on New Year's Day!"

 Well that was unexpected. Xavier said he was eighteen which means Lucien's turning nineteen on the first of January! He really is a late bloomer.

 " Anna!" Lucien ran out and dragged her away " I told you not to tell her. Now look what she's done."

" She asked me so sweetly so how could I reject her? " that sounded like Xavier " You have to be insane to reject her when she gives you that look. "

  I couldn't help but laugh. Anna has a way of making people cater to her needs with those eyes of hers. Xavier's right. Only a madman will reject those eyes!

" Is it really your birthday!" Sophie shot up from the beanbag she was sitting on.

Lucien didn't reply and we couldn't see him since he dragged Anna into the hallway. After a while of guessing, Xavier ran out and yelled.

" It is! His birthday is in four days!"

" Really?! " Mom ran out from the kitchen with a spatula in hand.

" Yeah!" Xavier ran down the stairs " He won't tell you so I might as well do it on his behalf."

" Well we have to celebrate it! " Jamie cheered.

" Absolutely not! " Lucien yelled and ran out to the stairs " No celebrating anything!"
