Chapter 18- Phone calls

"Hey? You here?" Jae asks, moving his hand in front of her face, motioning for here to pay some heed. Rae has been lost ever since they reached the restaurant. She would usually be all enthusiastic and such, but today it was kind of different.

"Uhm, yes?" Rae asks. She doesn't want any distraction, her tangled braincells are solving theories.

"I've called you for the third time now. What do you want for dinner?" Jae sighs, he didn't like this serious atmosphere. He wants them to talk and just joke around.

"Uh, just order whatever you want to eat." Rae replies, not bothering to check the menu or the posters advertising the restaurant which were sticked to the walls. A waiter approaches them, hoping for them to place the order.

Jae randomly orders two meals from the menu, which the waiter writes down. The waiter stared at their clothes. Not only him, every person sitting there did. Who even wore such long dresses and suits to only come to a small outlet? Definitely sus.

Jae coughs, signalling the waiter and to basically tell him to stop staring at them like a hawk.

"I'll get to it sir." The waiter speaks and sprints back to his place, probably embarrased.

"Well, now tell me what the hell is wrong." Jae starts calmly and looks over at her, holding a blank face.

"What?" Rae asks, she clearly knew what he was asking but the reaction was necessary.

"All this Kami stuff. Everything." He answers. He knew already but knowing Rae's point of view was important.

"Um..I'm confused about it myself though, help me." Rae says. After summing up all, she can only get to this conclusio:.

All men do is lie.

All that stuff earlier....was just for show. Kami's real purpose from the start was get close to her for buisness relations. For sure, he knew about the partnership.

No wonder he showed up at the party, asked for her and always found a way to her.

"I just wanted to make friends." Sounds so fake now.

And she really thought was guniene....she smacks for being so naive. It always happened with her. Guys digging up for money and fame.

Still it bothered her...just why. Why did her family join hands with the Mins? It meant Kami is involved in this stuff as well? Isn't he just 19....

She told all of this to Jae, who listened everything attentively. He did ask some questions in the middle as well.

"I think I know about this stuff...." Jae quietly whispers, which Rae didn't fail to hear.

"You do?!" Rae whiper shouts, which leads to people staring them again. Jae frowns and she mouths a small 'sorry '.

"Not completely...I stayed up late one night and overheard mom and dad talking about some collab and someone's marriage...I don't know who." Jae shares his part of the story. All of that made sense though, there might be a marriage when the two companies unite? Who knows.

"Oh...okay..though can you try asking mom or dad about it?" Rae asks, she just wanted to know about it as it involves her too.

"I don't think so...mom and dad don't like me getting inside all of this stuff...you shouldn't get in it too." He says, his inner brotherly sense speaks out, warning Rae. She knew that Jae won't really share everything about their family matters so she didn't create a conflict.

"What about your novel though? Did you do anything about it?" Jae questions, changing the topic. Rae's face turned bright back again at the mention of her writings. She tells him everything about the workplace she inquired in, the manager there and the old lady too. They were talking cheerfully as their dinner approached, and they digged in.

-meanwhile, in the party-

Kami rolls his eyes for the nth time as he was asked yet again about the colluding of the Kims and Mins. People heared him his speech quite clearly, then why do they gotta bother him all over?

"Yes sir, we were planning on this since some time ago." Kami flashes a fake smile, while the dude kept asking him questions as he drank his wine. The woman with that dude kept clinging onto Kami, which succesfully made him mad, as he pushed her away.

"Can I get your number?"

"You're single right?"

"Damn, you are so different from the oldies down here."

And many more such questions were asked to him. He found all of this cringe and then he stands in front and declares:

"I already have a fianceé, she would not be really happy if she knows all this." Though, in fact, the fianceé doesn't give a damn about it.

"He's engaged?!"

"Who's the lucky girl? I'm so jealous!"

"I guess better luck next time, hun."

Kami really thought they all lost it. A reason he hates such girls.

She only loved one girl once, which was no other than his mom. (now tell me who thought he had a crush while reading the first line👀) Not anymore.

Suddenly, Kami's phone rang. He picked it up to see it was his dad. Why is he even calling him when he is in the party himself? Nevertheless, he picked it up.

"What is it?" Kami asks, straight to the topic. His dad doesn't normally call him, and when he does it is something important.

"That's not how you talk." His dad said in a stern tone, instead of stating his reason.

"Just tell me." Kami answers, ignoring his comment. He knew they found out that Rae is missing.

"Aurelia is nowhere to be found. Do you have any idea where she might be?" He asks, his tone didn't change.

"How would I know? Why do we need her right now anyway?" Kami answers, true, she wasn't really wanted right now.

"We're announcing your wedding in this party." His dad answers, his tone changed now, to a more pleased one.

"What- WHY?!" Kami blurts out, he still didn't have a plan on how to tell her about it, her knowing it right now is just gonna make everything ten times messier.

"The sooner, the better." Kami's dad answered with a frown. On the other hand, Mr. Min wanted to get this thing done asap.

-back to Rae-

Rae and Jae, both completed their meal and headed off to hang out around here and there, in the bright moonlight. It felt better than the aritificial lights which covered the party hall.

It was all good untill she had a call.

"Who is it?" Jae asks, his eyes turn to her phone, as the both of them check the caller ID.

'Dad'.
