Rewriting the Fate of Mr.Kim~
Flashback 0.4~¹⁹
The next day, Taehyung was standing in front of seoul central jail. Ready to meet Jimin and to know more about the hidden things in the shadows.
Taehyung walks into the bustling lobby of Seoul Central Jail, his face cold and expression unreadable. He approaches the front desk where an officer sits, typing away on a keyboard.
Someone
Officer (glances up briefly): "Can I help you?"
Kim Taehyung (past)
(in a calm but firm tone) "I’m here to visit a prisoner. His name is Park Jimin."
Someone
Officer (pauses, furrowing his brows): "Park Jimin? Let me check." He begins typing on his computer, the sound of keys filling the silence.
Taehyung stands still, his hands clasped tightly behind his back. His eyes scan the room, taking in the faint echoes of voices from prisoners behind the walls. He looks calm, but inside, his chest tightens with impatience.
Someone
Officer (after a moment, frowns at the screen): "There’s no record of a Park Jimin here."
Kim Taehyung (past)
(his expression hardens) "What do you mean? He was supposed to be here. Check again."
Someone
Officer (clears his throat, typing more slowly this time): "I checked twice. There’s no one by that name currently incarcerated at this facility. Maybe you should try another jail."
Kim Taehyung (past)
(his voice lowers, carrying an edge): "Are you sure? Park Jimin. Early 30s. Arrested a two months ago."
Someone
Officer (shakes his head): "I’m sure. If he’s not in the system, then he’s not here. Like I said, you might want to check elsewhere."
Taehyung stares at the officer for a moment, his jaw clenched tightly. Without another word, he spins on his heel and walks out of the building, his boots clicking against the polished floor.
Outside Seoul Central Jail
Taehyung steps outside, the cold morning air hitting his face. He exhales sharply, running a hand through his hair. His mind is racing, frustration bubbling under the surface.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(mutters to himself): "Not here? How can he not be here? Where the hell is he?"
He pulls out his phone, dialing a contact. It rings twice before a voice answers on the other end.
Kim Taehyung (past)
"Lieutenant Kang, it’s me. I need you to check the records for Park Jimin’s transfer. I was told he’d been brought to Seoul Central Jail, but they have no record of him."
Kang Ha Nuel
Lieutenant Kang (on the phone): 📱"Understood, sir. I’ll get back to you as soon as I have an update."
Kim Taehyung (past)
(his voice sharp): "Make it fast. I don’t want to wait."
He ends the call and slips his phone back into his pocket. His gaze shifts to the horizon, the distant skyline of Seoul barely visible through the haze. There’s a tightness in his chest—a mix of anger and unease.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(to himself): "Something’s wrong. Someone’s hiding something."
The room is dimly lit, papers scattered across the table. Taehyung sits with his head in his hands, exhaustion evident on his face. He’s spent the past two weeks chasing leads, visiting jails, making calls, and filing inquiries—but nothing. No trace of Jimin anywhere.
His phone buzzes, breaking the silence. He snatches it up quickly.
Kang Ha Nuel
Lieutenant Kang (on the other end): "Sir, I’ve searched every record. There’s no trace of Park Jimin in any of the jails or holding facilities in Seoul or nearby cities."
Kim Taehyung (past)
(his voice low and tense): "That’s impossible. He didn’t just disappear. Someone must know where he is."
Kang Ha Nuel
Lieutenant Kang (hesitates):"If he’s not in the system, sir, there’s a chance..." (his voice trails off).
Kim Taehyung (past)
(his eyes narrow): "Say it."
Kang Ha Nuel
Lieutenant Kang: "There’s a chance he’s been... silenced. Off the record."
The line goes quiet. Taehyung stares at the wall, his hand tightening around the phone.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(in a deadly calm tone): "Keep digging. I don’t care what it takes. Find him."
Kang Ha Nuel
Lieutenant Kang: "Understood, sir."
The call ends. Taehyung sets the phone down, leaning back in his chair. His gaze is cold, his jaw tight. He’s at a dead end, but he refuses to give up.
It had been two weeks since Taehyung started searching for Jimin’s whereabouts, and each passing day only deepened his frustration. He’d visited every jail, every corner of Seoul, asking around for any sign of Jimin. But nothing. The officers, the guards, even the prison records, all led to dead ends. No criminal by the name of Jimin. No record of his arrest, no charges filed against him. It was as if Jimin had never existed.
Kim Taehyung (past)
"Why is this happening?"
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Clenched his fists): "I’ll find you, Jimin. I will."
But as the days passed, Taehyung was forced to face the bitter reality. His leave was over. His superiors had called him back to Base 17. His search for Jimin would have to be paused, at least for the time being. But deep down, Taehyung knew that he couldn’t let it go. Not when he felt in his bones that Jimin’s disappearance was linked to something much bigger.
When Taehyung arrived back at the base, it was as if the life had been sucked out of him. His usual sharpness, his authoritative presence—it all seemed to dissipate. He became a shadow of himself. Cold. Distant. People tried to talk to him, but he shut them all out. His thoughts were consumed with Jimin—where he was, what happened to him.
A month later, the worst news came. The officers from Seoul Central Jail arrived with a grim report. They told him to go and collect Jimin’s body.
Taehyung could barely breathe when he heard those words.
Kim Taehyung (past)
💭 Jimin was dead? How? Why? What had happened to him?
He was left with no answers. Nothing but the cold, stiff body of his best friend, the person who had meant everything to him. The one person who had been there through everything. And now he was gone.
The weight of the world seemed to collapse on Taehyung’s shoulders as he stood at the edge of the graveyard, looking down at the tombstone he had placed beside his family’s grave. Jimin’s body was buried next to them. A final resting place for someone who had never deserved to die.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(His hands trembled as he wiped the tears from his face): "I should have done more. I should’ve known. I should’ve saved you atleast."
But the case had been closed. No more investigation. No more leads. No more hope. Taehyung’s heart felt hollow. The home he had once known was gone.
