Rewriting the Fate of Mr.Kim~
A calm evening amidst a Chaos~¹²
The faint hues of an orange sunset filtered through the thin curtains of the small military quarters, casting warm tones across the room. Outside, the chirping of crickets had begun, their melodic hum blending with the gentle rustling of leaves swaying in the evening breeze. The air carried a slight chill, a reminder of the recent rain that had washed the dust from the camp, leaving everything smelling earthy and fresh.
Jimin stirred awake, the warmth of the heavy blanket cocooning him offering comfort. He blinked a few times, his gaze lazily scanning the room. The wooden desk near the window caught his eye, where Yoongi sat, hunched over a pile of reports. A dim desk lamp cast a soft glow around him, highlighting the determined crease on his forehead as he flipped through the pages, lost in concentration.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(low voice) "Hyung..."
Yoongi didn’t respond, too engrossed in his work to notice the quiet call. Jimin tried again, a little louder this time, but to no avail. His throat felt parched, and his gaze shifted toward the water jar sitting just beyond his reach on the bedside table.
He stretched out his arm cautiously, mindful of the injury in his leg. Pain shot through him as he strained, but he persisted. Just as his fingers grazed the jar, it tipped over, crashing onto the wooden floor with a loud clang. The water spilled, forming a small puddle that glistened under the dim light.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
Startled, Yoongi’s head snapped up. He turned toward the source of the noise and saw the mess by the bed. His sharp gaze softened when he noticed Jimin sitting up awkwardly, looking apologetic.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(calmly): "What happened? Are you okay?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(sheepishly): "Sorry, Hyung. I was trying to get water, but it slipped."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"It's fine. Stay still. I'll get it for you."
Yoongi stood and fetched a glass of water from the table. With quick steps, he approached Jimin and handed him the glass.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Drink slowly, or you’ll choke."
Jimin obediently sipped, though he drained the glass quickly, earning a pointed look from Yoongi.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"What time is it?"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Evening. You’ve been asleep for a while."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"Is everyone back yet?"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Not yet, but they should return within the hour."
Without further ado, Yoongi pulled the blanket back, exposing Jimin’s injured leg.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Straighten your leg. Let me check."
Jimin winced as he tried to comply.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"Ah, I can’t... I think it’s numb from lying down too long."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(examining gently): "Does this hurt?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(hissing slightly): "A little, but not much."
Satisfied with the lack of swelling, Yoongi nodded.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"You’re doing well. Three more days, and you should be all fine till then."
He handed Jimin an apple to munch on while cleaning up the spilled water.
Jimin munched on the apple, watching as Yoongi tidied up the room. The rhythmic sound of the towel against the floor and the faint creak of the wooden boards beneath Yoongi’s boots added a layer of calm to the serene evening.
Once finished, Yoongi glanced at Jimin.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Are you hungry? Should I bring food?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"I’m not that hungry, Hyung. You can finish your work. I don’t want to lie down anymore, though. Let me help."
Yoongi raised an eyebrow, amused.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"You’re injured and can’t even move properly. How do you plan to help?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(shyly): "You can carry me… like before."
Yoongi smirked but didn’t comment, heading toward the door instead.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(frowning): "Where are you going, Hyung?"
Yoongi left briefly to find a soldier and returned after arranging for food to be delivered. Entering the room, he froze at the sight of Jimin attempting to stand.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(sternly): "Have you lost your mind?"
He crossed the room in a flash, catching Jimin just before he could fall.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"What were you trying to do? Injure yourself again?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(stammering): "Y-you left me alone!"
Tears welled up in Jimin’s eyes, and his voice broke as he continued.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"You didn’t even tell me where you were going!"
Yoongi looked at Jimin who was crying in his embrace, and thought.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
💭 Weren't you being strong soldier at daytime, and now see who is crying just from my little scoldings. Silly.
Yoongi’s stern expression softened as Jimin’s tears spilled over. With a gentle chuckle, he scooped Jimin up in his arms, carrying him to the desk. He set Jimin down in his chair and crouched before him, wiping the younger’s tears with a soft apology.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(wipe down the tears, gently): "I'm sorry, now don't cry."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(sniffle): "You're a big bad hyung."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(chuckle): "Forgive you big bad Hyung, I won't leave you again next time without telling you."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"Promise? Hyung."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Promise."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"Good, You're forgiven. But where did you go?"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"I only stepped out to arrange for food. I couldn’t leave you alone for too long, so I asked someone to bring it here."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(sniffing): "What about me? Did you ask them for me too?"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(smiling): "Of course, I ordered for you too. I can’t forget my little patient."
Jimin’s pout transformed into a grin, his earlier frustration forgotten.
Yoongi wrapped Jimin in a blanket and helped him to the bathroom to wash up before their meal.
As they sat down on chair, a knock interrupted them. Yoongi sighed, standing to open the door and accepting the food plates from the soldier. He dismissed the soldier with a firm but polite command, shutting the door behind him.
As Yoongi turned with plates in his hands, he saw how Jimin was looking at food like a hungry wolf, who will devour everything that comes in his sight.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(teasing): "Someone said he wasn’t hungry."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(grinning): "That someone changed his mind after seeing food."
Yoongi chuckled and helped Jimin settle comfortably before they began eating together, the air light with laughter and quiet camaraderie.
