Base 17 – Taehyung’s Departure
Taehyung stands at the gates of Base 17, the weight of his duty pulling him away from everything he knows. He looks back one last time before stepping inside, the gate closing behind him with a heavy thud.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(spoke silently): "Taehyung... I'll catch up... One day."
Kim Taehyung (past)
"Jimin-ahhh I would always be waiting."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Best of luck with your new journey my little brother."
Kim Taehyung (past)
"Thanks Hyung, take care of dad and papa."
Kim Taehyung (past)
(To himself, quietly) “This is it... I’ll be alone for a long time.”
jimin standing a little further away, watches the exchange with a sense of longing. he's been left behind, not fit enough to follow taehyung to base 17 his legs feel like they might buckle beneath him but he stands tall.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(Softly, almost to himself) “I can’t... Why I’m not strong enough.”
Yoongi turns to Jimin, his face serious.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
(Sighing) “You’ll be fine, Jimin. Rest up. Taehyung won't like to see you like this. You’ll be fine.”
Jimin just nods, a shadow of doubt in his eyes. He watches as Taehyung’s figure fades from view, feeling like something is slipping through his grasp.
Base 17 – Three Years Later
Jimin enters Base 17 after three long years, his steps hesitant. He has heard nothing from Taehyung, but his desperation leads him here, hoping to find some sort of resolution, some sort of help. He looks around, the base having changed in the years since Taehyung left. He walks up to the receptionist, his voice unsure.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(Nervously) “I need to speak with General Kim Taehyung.”
The receptionist glances at the schedule and shakes her head.
Someone
Receptionist: “General Taehyung is currently on a mission. It’s... the 'disguise mission.' He would be out of reach for eight months. I’m afraid he’s unavailable.”
Jimin’s heart sinks. He hadn’t expected this—he had hoped to meet Taehyung, to ask for his help. But it seems the world had other plans.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
(To himself, softly) “Eight months...”
Taehyung’s Return – After 8 Months
Eight months later, Taehyung finally returns from his mission. He steps off the plane, his posture stiff, his expression unreadable. As he exits the terminal, his phone rings. It’s an unknown number.
Taehyung answers, his voice low.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Coldly) “Taehyung.”
Someone
Voice on the Phone: “Sir, it’s the hospital. You need to come quickly. Your father, Lee Dong Wook... he’s been admitted. It’s urgent.”
Taehyung’s breath catches in his throat. His hands tremble as he quickly gathers his things, rushing to the hospital.
Taehyung arrives at the hospital, his heart racing. The sterile white walls feel suffocating as he rushes to the floor his father is on. When he reaches the room, he’s met with the cold, crushing truth.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Rushing to the nurse) “Where is he? Where is my father?”
Someone
Nurse: (Quietly, with deep sympathy) “I’m so sorry, sir. He passed away just moments ago.”
Taehyung freezes, the words sinking in slowly. He had come so close, just hoping to say goodbye, but now it was too late.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Whispering, broken) “No... no, this can't be true.”
His legs give out beneath him, and he collapses into a nearby chair. The nurse looks at him with pity, but there’s nothing she can do.
It feels like the world has turned upside down. His father... Lee Dong Wook, gone. Taehyung had been too late, and all that was left were the empty walls of the hospital room.
Suddenly, the nurse speaks again, her voice gentle but firm.
Someone
Nurse:“ your father has been holding on for you. He wanted to see you... just one last time.”
Taehyung’s heart cracks even further. The words feel like a cruel reminder of everything he has lost.
After taking a moment to process his father’s death, Taehyung tries to pull himself together. But when he asks about his papa, the news is just as devastating.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Barely managing to speak) “What about Gong Yoo? My papa...”
Someone
Nurse: (With a sorrowful expression) “I'm sorry... Your papa... he passed away suddenly from a heart attack two days ago.”
Taehyung feels the air leave his lungs. He’s gone. Both of them are gone, and he hadn’t been there. His tears finally break free, his body shaking as the weight of the loss crashes down on him.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Through his sobs) “I wasn’t here... I couldn’t be here...”
He falls to his knees in the hospital corridor, overwhelmed by the grief, the guilt, and the unbearable weight of everything that has happened while he was away.
Taehyung attends the funeral in a daze, his face numb as he stands by the graves of his parents. The ceremony is brief, but the pain in Taehyung’s heart lingers.
He watches as the casket is lowered into the earth, the finality of it all sinking in. He’s alone now. His parents are gone, and even Yoongi and Jimin have not shown up to say goodbye. He feels lost, adrift in a sea of sorrow.
Feeling lost and away from the murmurs of others Taehyung stood alone away from others, looking at nothing but two laid caskets infront of him.
The wind picks up, rustling the trees around the graveyard, but it does little to soothe him.
After the burial, Taehyung is walking slowly back to his car when a lawyer approaches him, his black suit stark against the gray sky.
Someone
Lawyer: (Politely) “General Kim Taehyung?”
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Barely registering the presence of the man) “Yes... What is it?”
The lawyer hands him an envelope, which Taehyung takes absently. He opens it, scanning the contents, and his expression changes from confusion to horror.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(In disbelief) “Yoongi... Hyung is dead?”
Someone
(Solemnly) “Yes. He passed away... shortly after the incident. He was implicated in the misuse of camp funds, there's also an allegation that he cooperated with terrorists and... they’ve removed him from his post."
Taehyung stands still, the shock of hearing about Yoongi’s death and disgrace sinking in like a heavy stone. His heart aches, and the world seems to blur around him.
Kim Taehyung (past)
(Whispers, heartbroken) “He would never... he couldn’t have—”
Someone
(Interrupting, a little apologetically) “I’m just relaying the information. I’m afraid there’s nothing else I can do. Your parents’ will was clear. You’re now responsible for everything.”
Taehyung clenches his fists, his mind reeling with the gravity of the situation. His closest friends... gone. Betrayed by the very system they fought for. And now, he was left with nothing but questions and pain.
The lawyer walks away, leaving Taehyung standing in the middle of the street, utterly alone.
