Rewriting the Fate of Mr.Kim~
Detailing of Survey~¹⁵
After Two Weeks of Survey in the Forest
The meeting room was filled with the hum of murmurs as officers, both seasoned and new recruits, assembled. A long oak table stretched across the room, with higher-ranking officials seated at the head, including Jimin, Yoongi, Kang Tae-oh, and others. The air carried the faint scent of freshly brewed coffee, mingling with the sharp tang of papers and leather-bound files. The walls were adorned with maps of the base, forest regions, and nearby borders. A large projector screen occupied one side, ready to display the findings of the forest survey.
Taehyung stood confidently at the front of the room, his tall figure clad in a crisp, well-fitted uniform. His presence commanded attention as he held the projector remote in one hand and a pointer in the other. His sharp features, illuminated by the dim glow of the screen, were calm yet determined. Clearing his throat, he began his presentation in a steady, commanding voice.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"As you all can see here," —he pointed to the bar chart projected onto the screen— "the forest has been categorized into four distinct regions: the reserved area for animals, the dangerous area of wildlife, barren land, and the water region comprising ponds and rivers."
The room fell silent, with every officer focusing on Taehyung's explanation.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"The barren lands in region three can be utilized for military drills. These areas provide a controlled yet challenging environment where our soldiers can practice survival techniques and adapt to wilderness conditions."
He clicked to the next slide, showing images of rivers and ponds glistening under the sunlight, surrounded by dense greenery.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"As for the water region, it offers a natural setting to enhance our soldiers’ swimming and rescue training. The depth and unpredictability of these waters can simulate real-life rescue scenarios, ensuring our soldiers are prepared for any mission involving water."
Taehyung’s calm voice carried an undercurrent of passion as he moved to the next point.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"Now, about regions one and two—these are wildlife zones. We will not interfere with these areas but can contribute by ensuring the animals have adequate food and water, especially during harsher seasons. Establishing a non-threatening presence will prevent unnecessary conflict and foster a harmonious environment. Occasionally, we can arrange controlled interactions between soldiers and animals to raise awareness and prepare our teams for encounters in the wild."
There were nods of agreement from several officers, some taking notes while others murmured among themselves.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"All of this will significantly enhance our soldiers' tactical abilities, making them more capable than those from any other base. However..."
He paused, letting the gravity of his next words settle. Clicking the remote, he displayed an image of a small, unassuming village nestled within the forest.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"During our survey, we discovered this village. It lies just beyond our border in the neighboring country. There’s no visible security on their side, nor on ours. This poses a significant risk."
A ripple of murmurs spread across the room. Two soldiers in the back exchanged whispers.
Someone
Soldier 1: "Why is Captain Kim saying others found the village? Wasn’t it him who led us there?"
Someone
Soldier 2: "He must have his reasons. Maybe he’s deflecting attention."
Someone
Soldier 1: "If it were me, I’d take credit for it."
Someone
Soldier 2: "And that’s why you’re not Captain Kim."
Taehyung, oblivious to the whispers, continued.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"The lack of security on both sides is a vulnerability. If left unchecked, it could become an entry point for enemy forces. I suggest we prioritize understanding this village—its population, activity, and possible threats. This information is crucial for forming a proper defense strategy."
A higher-ranking officer leaned forward, his voice resonant.
General Hyung Bin
"And how do you propose we gather such information without alerting them to our presence?"
Taehyung’s eyes gleamed with determination.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"I propose a disguise operation. A small team could infiltrate the village, posing as wandering travelers or merchants. By living among them temporarily, we can gather intelligence discreetly."
The General frowned, skeptical.
General Kang Hoon
"It’s a sound strategy, but our soldiers aren’t trained for such covert missions. This operation could backfire, risking their lives and our country’s reputation."
Captain Kim Taehyung
"Sir, I understand the risks. That’s why I recommend selecting experienced officers for this mission. With proper preparation and the right team, we can minimize risks and achieve success."
The General nodded slowly, impressed by Taehyung’s reasoning.
General Song Joong Ki
"Your urgency is noted, Captain Kim. We’ll inform the main base and await approval. Once we receive reinforcements, we’ll proceed."
A small smile tugged at Taehyung’s lips as the General added
General Song Joong Ki
"You’ve proven yourself, Captain. Your foresight and leadership are exemplary."
The dining hall buzzed with life as soldiers gathered after the meeting, the aroma of hearty stew and fresh bread filling the air. Taehyung, Jimin, and Yoongi sat together at their usual spot, their trays laden with food.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"So, when do you think they’ll approve your plan?"
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"It’ll probably take months. These things always do."
Captain Kim Taehyung
(calmly) "No, it’ll be within a week."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"Oh? Confident, are we?"
Captain Kim Taehyung
"The matter is too critical to ignore. Word will spread, and the pressure will force them to act quickly."
Yoongi smirked, leaning back in his chair.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Smart as always, Captain."
Captain Kim Taehyung
"It’s not about being smart—it’s about being prepared."
Their conversation soon shifted to lighter topics, punctuated by laughter. But later that night, alone in his quarters, Taehyung stood by the window, gazing into the dark expanse of the forest. The moonlight painted his face in silver, but his expression was shadowed by guilt and regret.
Captain Kim Taehyung
(to himself): "In my past life, I was blind to everything around me. Jimin, Yoongi... I abandoned them when they needed me most."
Tears welled in his eyes, slipping silently down his cheeks.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"I lost my parents... my friends... because I was selfish. I focused only on myself, ignoring their struggles. If only I had listened... If only I had been there for them..."
His voice cracked, choked with emotion.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"This time, I won’t fail them. I’ll protect them, no matter the cost. I’ll rewrite everything, even if it kills me."
The forest outside seemed to echo his silent vow, the wind rustling through the trees like a promise carried to the heavens.
