Rewriting the Fate of Mr.Kim~
Late night solace~¹⁴
•• Taehyung’s Quarters ••
The moonlight filters through the half-drawn curtains, casting a soft glow across the neatly arranged room. Taehyung enters, his shoulders stiff with lingering tension. He removes his jacket, draping it over a chair, and sits on the edge of the bed, his thoughts running in circles.
Captain Kim Taehyung
[To himself, voice low] "Jimin...always so reckless. He’ll be the death of himself if he keeps this up."
He leans back, his gaze fixed on the ceiling. The quiet hum of the base fills the air, grounding him. After a moment, he grabs his phone and dials a number.
Yoongi is still at his desk, scribbling notes. Jimin, now bundled up again, watches him with a mix of boredom and curiosity. The phone on the desk vibrates softly, breaking the silence.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Answering] 📱"What is it, Taehyung?"
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Firmly] 📱"Make sure Jimin stays put tomorrow. He has a habit of sneaking into things he shouldn’t."
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Glancing at Jimin] 📱"Understood. He’s not going anywhere."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Huffing, overhearing] "I’m right here, you know."
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Sternly, through the phone] 📱"Good. Keep an eye on him, hyung. I don’t want to hear about any ‘accidents.’"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Smirking] 📱 "Relax. I’ve got it handled."
The call ends, and Yoongi sets the phone down. Jimin glares at him, arms crossed.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
"You two act like I’m a child. I can take care of myself!"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Amused] "Clearly. That’s why you’re sitting here with an injury."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Grumbling] "It just happened, it was unexpected okay!"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"That's why you should be more careful."
The camp was silent, the occasional chirp of crickets filling the night air. Jimin sat on the bed, legs still wrapped in a blanket as Yoongi arranged the table after completing the work. The soft light from the desk lamp cast warm shadows across the room.
Jimin broke the silence, his voice soft.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“Hyung, do you ever feel like…we’re all just moving pieces on a chessboard? Like no matter what we do, someone else controls the game?”
Yoongi paused, turning to look at him. His sharp eyes softened at the vulnerability in Jimin’s tone.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Sometimes. But even a pawn can change its fate, Jimin. With the right moves, it can become a queen.”
Jimin tilted his head, considering Yoongi’s words.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“But what if you don’t know the right moves? What if…you’re just stuck in the same cycle?”
Yoongi walked over and sat beside him, his presence grounding.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Then you keep trying. Every step forward matters, even if it feels small.”
Jimin smiled faintly, fiddling with the corner of the blanket.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“You always know what to say, hyung.”
Yoongi chuckled softly, leaning back against the headboard.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“It’s not about knowing what to say. It’s about meaning it.”
The room fell into a comfortable silence, but Jimin’s thoughts were still loud. He hesitated before speaking again.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“Hyung, do you…ever regret joining the military?”
Yoongi glanced at him, the question unexpected.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“No. It’s not an easy life, but it’s one I chose. Why do you ask?”
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“I don’t know…I just wonder if things could’ve been different. If I hadn’t joined, would I still have met you?”
Yoongi’s lips curved into a small smile, his gaze softening.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Fate has a funny way of bringing people together. Even if you didn’t join, I believe we would’ve crossed paths somehow.”
Jimin’s cheeks flushed at the sincerity in Yoongi’s voice.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“You really think so?”
Yoongi nodded, reaching out to ruffle Jimin’s hair.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Of course. Some things are just meant to be.”
Jimin ducked his head, hiding his smile.
The knock on the door interrupted their moment. Yoongi stood, his commanding demeanor returning as he approached the door.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Who is it?”
A soldier’s voice came from the other side.
Someone
Soldier: “Sir, there’s been a report from the north side of the forest. Movement detected. We’re awaiting further instructions.”
Yoongi’s expression hardened as he opened the door.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Prepare a team. I’ll be there shortly.”
The soldier saluted and left. Yoongi closed the door, his mind already racing with strategies.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“What’s going on?”
Yoongi turned back, his expression unreadable.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Trouble on the northern perimeter. Stay here and rest. I’ll handle it.”
Jimin frowned, gripping the edge of the blanket.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“Hyung, let me help. I can—”
Yoongi cut him off with a firm tone.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“No. You’re injured. Your job right now is to recover.”
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“But—”
Yoongi stepped closer, his voice softer but no less resolute.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Jimin, trust me. I’ll be back before you know it.”
Jimin reluctantly nodded, though his worry was evident. Yoongi placed a hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently before grabbing his gear.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
“Lock the door after I leave. Don’t open it for anyone except me.”
Jimin watched as Yoongi left, his heart heavy with concern. The room felt emptier without him, the shadows stretching longer as the night deepened.
Jimin muttered to himself, his voice barely above a whisper.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
“Come back safe, hyung.”
••Taehyung’s Quarters–Morning••
The sun rises, painting the base in hues of orange and gold. Taehyung is up early, dressed and ready. He steps out into the crisp morning air, the sound of boots on gravel echoing as soldiers gather for their assignments.
A sharp whistle pierces the air.
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Loudly] "Everyone, assemble!"
The soldiers fall into line, their movements precise. Taehyung’s sharp eyes scan the group, ensuring all are present.
Captain Kim Taehyung
"Today’s tasks remain as discussed. Group A, southern patrol. Group B, forest sweep. Group C, communications. Report directly to your team leaders. Dismissed!"
The soldiers salute and disperse. Taehyung watches them go, his expression unreadable, before heading toward Yoongi’s quarters.
Yoongi is already dressed, preparing to leave. Jimin, now sitting on the bed, looks visibly irritated.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Whining] "Hyung, let me come! I’m fine now!"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Flatly] "No."
A knock at the door, followed by Taehyung entering unannounced.
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Glancing between them] "Good. You’re keeping him in line."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Fuming] "I’m not a prisoner!"
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Ignoring him] "Hyung, are the patrol teams ready?"
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
"Yes. Everything’s set."
Jimin groans dramatically, throwing himself back onto the bed. Taehyung raises an eyebrow but doesn’t comment.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Muttering] "This is unfair. I’m perfectly capable of—"
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Cutting him off] "You’re staying. End of discussion."
Yoongi smirks at Jimin’s sulking while Taehyung turns to leave.
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Calling after him] "You’re so bossy!"
Captain Kim Taehyung
[Without turning back] "That’s why they call me 'Captain'."
The door closes behind him, leaving Jimin glaring at Yoongi.
Min Yoongi (commanding officer)
[Amused] "You could try listening for once, you know."
Park Jimin (Second Lieutenant)
[Huffing] "Where’s the fun in that?"
••Patrol Grounds – Afternoon••
Taehyung leads his group through the dense forest, his senses sharp. The air is thick with the scent of pine and earth, the sound of rustling leaves accompanying their every step.
Someone
Soldier 1: [Quietly] "Commander Kim seems more focused than usual today."
Someone
Soldier 2: [Nods] "He always is. That’s why he’s the best."
Taehyung hears their whispers but doesn’t react. His mind, though focused on the task at hand, keeps drifting back to the fiery soldier currently confined to his quarters.
Captain Kim Taehyung
[To himself, softly] "Hope there's no trap now."
The patrol continues, the sun casting dappled shadows on the forest floor.
