Chapter 16

Chapter 16

By morning my body aches. It is probably from where I left the hospital a bit early. The doctor did warn me about aching and soreness. He said I would probably have a lot of soreness if I didn’t  get enough rest, but I have too much to worry about getting rest. Getting ready for the day ahead I try and clear my mind. Only a few deep breaths to prepare me for the day. This gives me a calm feeling. The cooling breeze flies in from the windows, helping me meet a calm, clear state of mind.

Getting up, I grab my things including  my car keys and head off to the garage. Summer is slowly coming to an end.The cool air warms me, in a weird sensation. Traffic seems to pick at this hour, luckily I know a few short cuts. You can take short cuts like these but you can’t take shortcuts in life. I learned that the hard way, no matter what status your family is, you can’t get an easy life, I’m living proof of that. My family has high status, but yet I had to save myself, and make my own way to the top.

Once I arrive at the company, it is swarmed with good vibes. It fills me with joy seeing what I worked hard to build making a difference. I limped my way to the elevator.  No one took notice of it, but I'm used to it by now. It was not until I got to the top floor, when my secretary took notice of my limping. Lean has always been the type to observe her surroundings constantly.

“Miss choi! Come let me help you to your office.” She wraps my arm over her shoulder and helps me into my office. “Don’t mind me asking what happened?” She set me in my chair, “I sprained my ankle last night coming home.” Lean gives a sigh with a shake of her head. “Miss choi, you need to take better care of yourself. You could have called me to drive you home.” I shake her off, "I had a ride home, you may go back to work." She nodded and went back to her desk.

I let out a small but yet meaningful sigh. Getting focused on work, I don't  notice the man standing at the door. "Have you had breakfast yet?" Ace stands before me. “I’m too busy to worry about breakfast.” Despite my words, he sat right in front of me. “If you don’t eat your body will get worse and you won’t be able to work.” His stern glaze never leaves mine. “Fine.” Turning off my computer and grabbing my jacket. “Lean, I’m heading out for breakfast, I will be back in an hour.” “Yes miss choi.” I head out to get breakfast with ace. “Where would you like to go for breakfast?” I stare up at him, I hate being short. “There's a place that just opened up not far from here.” He smiles, when he smiles it warms me.

I don’t know what this weird feeling is. “Can we make this quick, I have to be in the recording studio in an hour.” He chuckles slightly, what’s with his laughter? “Of course, my princess, anything for you.” His long, muscular arms wrap around me, I feel like I am being hugged by a teddy bear. His soft lips press against my forehead. When he steps back, where he kissed feels empty. The cool air takes the warmth that was once there away.  We head off into the parking lot across the street. His bright red sports car stands before me, the winged door once again comes over my head. Ace had opened the door for me, he was smiling and bowed "my lady~" I giggled and got in.

Buckling in I wait to hear where we are going for breakfast. The car on the inside has a bulky look to it but still it looks amazing. I can't help but feel out of place when I sit in his car. Ace looks like he should be driving this car, his expensive clothes and jewelry give it away. "Where to?" He looks at me after starting the car and buckling in. I try and think of some good places to eat for breakfast. 광복절 토스트 or Korean flag toast sounds nice but they don't make it here in America. I can only fix that at home. "There's a good waffle place around the corner."  Twiddling with my fingers helps with my anxious feelings. I don't even know why I feel anxious.

"Alright let's go there then." He drives off. I watch the building disappear in the distance. The city soon fades into restaurants and stores. We look like we don’t belong in this small little waffle restaurant. “Will this do?” This was one of my favorite places to eat growing up, although I wasn’t allowed out, me and yui often snuck out once a week to try different places around the area. Soon we went to places further than 1 mile. This was one of my favorites, “Yes,” Giving him a smile i walk in.

“Yumi! My number 1 customer!” I feel the embrace of the owner come upon me. “Hello Mia.” I can’t help but smile. “How are you?” She smiles back. “I’ve been good, can we get two special orders?” “yeah, of course, how’s your sister?” Mia has known me and Yui since we were 13, I don’t know if she could take the news on my sister's passing. “I hate to tell you this but she had a car accident a while ago, she is no longer with us.” I can’t fight the tears anymore. I haven’t cried like this in a while. Ace didn’t stare at me like most people would, he wrapped his arms around me and let me cry on his shoulder. “It’s going to be ok” he kept telling me repeatedly.

After my words the sound of glass meeting the floor came to my ear. Mia had dropped the mug she had cleaned up. “My goodness! My precious child is gone, sweetheart come here. You girls have been through so much. Everything is on the house, you’re welcome here anytime you’d like.” Soon I have arms of both Mia and Ace around me. The warmth of Ace and the simpaphy from Mia calm my tears. It takes a lot to calm me down but this does.
