Back in the Empire
The Queen was taking a sip of wine as she looked at the man seated in front of her. “Count von Fray, I trust things went well.”
“Your Grace, everything went according to plan.” He smiled as he drank his wine, “Just a small cut could end her life since the dagger that was used was all coated in poison. Even if there is an alchemist up North they won't be able to help her since the poison is deadly and only skilled alchemist can create the elixir for it."
The Queen smiled hearing such good news. “Now let’s just hope that girl will sleep for good.”
...Finally, I can get rid of her. To think that she survived the fall from the rocky lake, I even put poison on her drink before she fell. She was already so weak how did she survive such strong poison. To think such a powerless girl to be my son's wife. Ridiculous! My son does not need such a worthless woman beside him.
“Mother, Lord von Fray…” A young man walked inside all dress in fancy blue attire, decorated with golden embroidery.
“My dear son.”
“Your highness.”
The young man seated next to his mother and kissed her on the hand. “How are you?”
“I’m fine, have you visited the Empress?” She asked showing such care for the Empress.
“Yes, I have,” He sighed since he was surprised seeing the woman so distress yet she won't say a word to why she upset.
“How is she?” She asked wondering what the woman had mentioned to his son.
“She is resting in her chambers now.” he answered, “She explained to me that I must find a bride soon since Lady Adolphus was sent to North for hurting one of my sisters.”
...So that woman already expects things would end up this way. I must make sure no trace will lead to my son tramble. It's a good thing that she dare not say a word.
“How about meeting the daughter of Count von Fray dear, they are beautiful ladies,” The Queen looked at the Count with beaming smile.
“Then I’ll send words for them, mother, if you excuse me, I still have some matters that need my attention.”
The Prince walked out of the room concern for what his mother has done. Despite he despised the idea of marrying Athena he dare not do anything for it was the Emperor wish. But the thought of losing the crown if he does not marry her frustrate him.
As the prince steps out of the room, Count von Fray smiled. “My Queen I looked forward to the day we shall be final one family.”
“Just make sure your wife family will support my son." The Queen crossed her arms around her chest.
“Rest assured, I’ll handle everything.”
The fact none of the Count daughters we're actually his wife child but his mistresses just lowered his son status. Since the Marquise was poor in health she was unable to bear any children for the Count leading him to have a couple of mistresses.
Compare to Athena who was just a sickly girl but was the child of the duke and princess of another kingdom just made her status for potential marriage worth it but she was as useless as a bug.
After her conversation with the Count, the Queen quickly sent words to her men.
"Make sure no trace of what the Count did points to us. It'll be best if the time comes to destroyed such worthless family."
The man bowed as he acknowledged his mission. "I shall handle everything, your Grace."
Inside the Empress's chamber. Word of what the Count and Queen did reach her ears. She threw away the cup and ornaments by her beside the table.
"Those idiots! Are they looking for war? What am I going to say to the Emperor once he returns? She is not only a duke's daughter but a neighboring princess's daughter as well."
"Your Grace it's best we give up on the idea that Lady Adolphus is still alive. Since she did set off to the North on her own and decided to leave in the village instead of the accommodation the Grand Duchess set for her. We could all conclude that Lady Adolphus arranged everything on her own."
"Lord Eagar are you saying put all the blame on a child who can barely walk." The Empress looked at the man with such disappointment.
"If I may be bold. Your Grace, everyone witness how she declared herself to go to the North. It was her who argued over your order."
The Empress thinks everything though.
... He's not wrong. I did arrange something else for her as a punishment yet she decides on her own to go to the North just because someone mentioned it. Clearly, I am not to be blamed despite the fact I tried to help her.
"So tell me, what is the chances the child is still alive?"
Lord Eagar shook his head with such displeased expression. "She is likely to be dead already your Grace."
...Such a waste to think the child was blessed by his Holiness yet she did not show any sign of being a Saintess. If only she showed a small sign of magic the Queen and the prince won't be so against her.
