I...I can't leave.
She said, her voice breaking slightly as she stepped back, trying to put some distance between them.

I need this job. I have no other choice.
He moved towards her then, his eyes darkening with frustration. His tall frame loomed over her as he advanced.
She instinctively took another step back, her back hitting the wall with a soft thud.
Her breath hitched as she placed her hands protectively over her stomach.
Kia's expression was unreadable, but the tension in the room was still suffocating.
He paused for a moment, standing just inches from her now.
Kai Thompson (ML)
Do you know what I said about you?
He asked, his voice a quiet dangerous whisper.
Kai Thompson (ML)
Do you understand what I've been trying to do for this company? For this place? And you....
He paused, his eyes narrowing.
Kai Thompson (ML)
You're standing here, still working after I gave you a chance to walk away.
Liv Zara (FL)
Please, I didn't want to cause trouble, sir. I just need to... survive.
A long silence passed between them. He looked at her belly, the soft curve of it visible beneath the simple dress she wore.
For a moment, his gaze softened, almost imperceptibly, but the coldness quickly returned.
Kai Thompson (ML)
You think you deserve this job because of that?
He asked, his tone cruel now.
Liv didn't answer, only lowering her eyes as her breath quickened. She had no words left to say, no defense against his sharp words.
Kai leaned in, his voice barely audible as he continued.
Kai Thompson (ML)
You think your pregnancy makes you special? It makes you expendable. Replaceable.
She flinched, her eyes glistening with unShed tears. she had heard worse in her life, but the way her said it, so cold and calculating, made it feel like a punch to her gut.
Liv Zara (FL)
I...I didn't mean to upset you.
Kai took a step back, his eyes narrowing, his lips curling into a thin smile one that was almost predatory.
Kai Thompson (ML)
Don't try to justify yourself. Just know this...you stay, and I will have to keep my eyes on you. And believe me, that won't be easy for either of us.
Liv nodded shakily, unable to meet his gaze now.
He said, his voice returning to its usual composed tone.
Kai Thompson (ML)
Now go back to work.
She nodded again and, without saying another word, turned and hurried out of the office, her heart racing.
As the door closed behind her, Kai stood there for a Mom, his eyes fixed on the spot where she had been.
He let out a deep breath, straightening his tie as he moved to the window, looking out over the city.
Lisa stood outside Kai's office, as she thought about the conversation she had just witnessed.
She knew what it meant for someone like Liv to keep her job here, especially with the way Kai handled things.
She thought about how Kai despite his coldness, always gave people like her a chance.
Maybe it wasn't kindness exactly, but a certain understanding that some people just needed the opportunity to prove themselves.
Lisa couldn't help but respect that.
