Episode 12

Kate even waited for James to give up on the date and go visit his mother, especially since it was his mother's request, but when she realized he wasn't coming back, Kate went to the hospital alone.

Arriving at Sara's room, she noticed that she was talking softly with a tall, bald gentleman. He was wearing glasses perched on the tip of his nose and was reading something to Sara, which he stopped reading as soon as Kate arrived.

"Hi dear, you came! And James? Where is he?"

Kate went to Sara and took her hands, feeling that they were very cold. She felt something bad in her chest, realizing that Sara seemed much more dejected than the Sara she had seen earlier that day.

"James, he... he had a commitment tonight, I don't know if he'll come."

"He won't come?" Kate saw that Sara got a little sad at that moment, which made her heart clench. She seemed smaller than before, her voice low and drawn out.

"Sara, he... maybe he'll still come, okay? And you... are you feeling anything? Are you feeling alright?"

"I'm feeling fine, my dear."

Sara introduced her lawyer to Kate and they talked for a bit, waiting for James until they realized he wasn't coming.

"Well, I guess James isn't coming and I feel like I can't wait for him any longer. Roger, my lawyer, has some papers for you to sign."

"Papers, but? What papers?"

"I'm donating some things that belong to me to you. The house and half of my shares in the company."

"No, Mrs. Sara! I don't need this, please, don't do this!"

"No, dear, you don't understand. If I don't do this now, they can take it from you after I die. James is my only child, but I have relatives. They're vultures, they haven't visited me once in the hospital, but they'll certainly want a piece of everything I left behind after I die."

"But you can leave everything to James, Sara."

"He's already going to receive half of everything by right and Roger advised me to leave the other half to you while I'm still alive because there are many loopholes in the law, they could go to court and challenge my will, especially since I amended it on my deathbed. This could cause a lot of trouble for you, my dear, please accept it, I know you don't intend to keep my money, but this is a gift for my grandson."

Kate couldn't refuse any longer, it was a gift from Sara to the grandson she always wanted. It would be something Kate would never touch, until her son grew up and could take possession of it all.

Kate signs and afterwards, Sara gives her a small box containing a bracelet.

"This one, it's a bracelet I gave James when he was a child. I want you to do the same for my grandson. It's hypoallergenic, it's silver, it has our family crest, I want him to always be proud to be a Weyland, from the moment he's born."

Kate looks at the bracelet, which had a "W" attached to two very delicate chains. She even imagined the baby's little hand with the bracelet on his wrist, something that warmed her heart.

"I'll keep it safe and he'll always wear it, for sure," Kate says and strokes Sara's hair, she didn't want to admit it, but that meeting was very strange, it felt like a... goodbye.

"Good, my sweet Kate. I wanted... can I make one last request?"

Kate nods and her eyes turn red, the emotion welling up without her being able to control it.

"Can you name the boy Johnny? It was my father's name, an admirable man, someone I would love to meet when I'm gone. It was going to be James' name, but his father wouldn't allow it at all, so do this honor for me."

"Of course, Mrs. Sara! Of course I will," it was early to know the baby's sex yet, but Sara swore it was a boy and Kate wasn't going to deny her that request at that moment.

Kate clasped Sara's cold hands and the tears rolled down her face, she prayed inwardly that Sara would hold on a little longer, that she wouldn't leave her alone at that moment.

She caressed Sara and told her she loved her. Sara returned the sentiment, telling Kate that she loved her too, that she was the daughter she always wanted.

Evening came and Sara asked Kate to give her her painkillers and sedative so she could sleep.

Kate refused, but was overcome by Sara's insistence, Kate knew she needed the painkillers, as she felt pains she couldn't imagine.

Sara fell asleep and gradually her vital signs began to drop. Desperate, Kate tried resuscitation maneuvers, called the doctor on duty to help her, but there was no turning back, Sara passed away that night.

Kate felt devastated and lost, she never had in her life what Sara gave her, affection, a mother's attention.

After her parents died she went to live with her legal guardian, someone who did support her, took her to therapy, gave her an education, always reminded her of her parents' legacy, but the kind of affection Sara gave her, she never had.

Feeling a deep pain, feeling alone again, Kate couldn't handle the emotions. She began to feel a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, her despair increased as she began to fear for the baby.

She immediately got help and was hospitalized for observation.

She was given a safe sedative to calm her emotions and she slept a little, only waking up a few hours later. When she opened her eyes he was there, James, standing by her bed. His eyes were red and you could see the grief on his face, but he didn't look at Kate with pity, more like anger.
