Episode 6

"Well, it's late and it's time for Mrs. Sara to rest," Kate says and goes to where Sara's medication is. She applies some sedatives and painkillers, so she can have a peaceful sleep.

Soon Sara starts to get drowsy and Kate kisses her forehead, saying goodbye. James watches everything attentively, seeing how kind and caring Kate was with his mother.

After Sara falls asleep, the two leave the room and walk side by side in silence.

They pass a group of nurses who, as soon as they see James, start whispering and smiling.

Kate scoffs and shakes her head discreetly.

Suddenly, she is surprised by James taking her hand and intertwining his fingers with hers. Kate tries to free herself, but that only makes it worse, as James pulls her closer to him, leaving the two glued to each other.

"Why?" she asks, whispering.

"Isn't that what couples do?"

"It's not public knowledge that we're a couple, to everyone you're a coveted bachelor."

"Does that bother you?"

Kate stops and looks at James, thoughtful, then says:

"That's none of my business."

James was about to respond, but before they could, they are interrupted.

"Kate, I'm glad you're still h..."

The two look over and it's Edward, the hospital's chief surgeon and Kate's professor.

James and Edward stare at each other, there was hostility between the two.

James considered Edward a rival, because of his closeness to Kate and Edward did not agree with Kate and James' marriage. It was evident that the two couldn't stand each other.

The two were a match, about the same age. Edward was a genius in medicine and Kate admired him, which disgusted James even more.

Edward looks at James and Kate's joined hands in disgust. Kate breaks free from James and walks over to Edward, which is not well received by James.

"Hi, Eddie! Did you want to tell me something?"

"I just, wanted to give you a case to study..." Edward hands Kate an envelope and then looks at James, staring at him.

"Oh, is this the case of that teenager in a coma?"

"Yes, but... I don't know if you can accept it, you seem to have other priorities that are not medicine."

"Why do you think that? Medicine is my top priority, you know that more than anyone. I won't disappoint you, I will study this case very carefully."

Edward nods curtly and Kate looks at James, who was waiting for her, then turns back to Edward.

"I have to go, Eddie. We'll talk more about this tomorrow."

"Why do you subject yourself to these people, you know you don't have to."

"Eddie, not now! I have my reasons, okay? We'll talk tomorrow."

Kate walks away and goes to James and he, to make matters worse, wraps his arm around her waist and then nods to Edward.

Kate blushes and feels her heart race. James smelled so good and his scent enveloped her in that moment, not to mention the warmth of his body which was so familiar and yet so attractive to her.

James caresses her waist, making her squirm inside. She didn't know if he had noticed that she was having trouble breathing, but to make matters worse, he squeezed her waist, making her feel her body tremble.

They got to the garage and James took her to his car.

"Oh, well... we'd better split up here. Mine's parked on the other side."

James opens the door and says:

"Get in, Katherine Vieira. If I came to pick you up from work we're going to do this right."

"But I left my car over there and how am I going to get back tomorrow?"

"We'll figure something out. Get in or I'm going to pick you up and put you in the car by force."

"Are you kidding?" Kate says and looks around, seeing some people walking around looking for their cars.

James walks towards her with a menacing look, Kate takes a few steps back and when he is about to grab her, she dodges and runs to his car and gets in.

"Fine! I'll go in your car! I don't want to be pointed out in the tabloids as another one of your conquests."

Kate opens the envelope and pulls out the papers it contained as James gets in, but surprising her, before she could pull out the papers completely, he takes it from her hand and throws it in the back seat, saying:

"You're one of my conquests and I don't like to see you seen as single either. Especially by that guy, Edward. He has to accept that you are my woman, Katherine. My wife." After, without giving Kate time to react, James kisses her.
