Episode 8

She tests, and once again, the result is negative.

Suspicious, she takes a shower and brushes her teeth, removing all traces of their last bout of nausea.

Upon leaving, she finds James lying on her bed waiting for her. He's only wearing a towel around his waist and looks at her with desire.

"Why do you only think about making love all the time?"

"It's the only thing left in our day. You leave early and come back late, leaving only the night for us. And making love is the right way to enjoy the night."

Kate sits on the bed next to him, and he pulls her close. She doesn't resist and lets him kiss her.

After they intertwine in a sensual kiss, James says to her,

"I thought about giving you a present for throwing up on Edward."

"You call this a present?" Kate says, pointing down.

"This? I'm not talking about that, I'm saying I'm going to give you a break tomorrow."

"What? I can't take a break, I have so much to do. Are you crazy?"

"You complained that all we do is have sex and you don't want to spend the day with me?"

"I didn't complain, I just asked. And it's okay, James, you don't have any obligation to me. You don't have to please me just because of your mother, it's fine. I know you love Miranda and it's not easy to pretend you like me. You can do that just around your mother, you don't have to do it when we're away from her."

"Oh, come on, Kate. Don't talk about Miranda!" James suddenly turns serious, making Kate think she annoyed him by mentioning his girlfriend.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you two. If I had known Miranda existed, I wouldn't have accepted your mother's proposal."

"Okay, you got it. I'm not in the mood anymore." James gets off of Kate and lies down beside her.

Kate remains silent for a moment, waiting for him to leave.

"Miranda, it's... Miranda won't come between us. With her, it's different than with you. We have something real."

Kate turns to look at James, and he is also looking at her.

At that moment, impulsively, she hugs his neck and kisses him, rekindling the flame.

In the morning, Kate wakes up to a messy bed. James's arm is over her, trapping her. Carefully, she frees herself and gets up, tiptoeing.

Kate goes to the bathroom and opens the cabinet; she decides to do that again, decides to take the test one more time.

Kate thought that morning urine is the most concentrated and if the test didn't come back positive at that moment, she was sure she wasn't pregnant.

Kate stares at that test for a long time, nothing changes, and she's about to give up when a faint red line starts to appear.

Her eyes widen as the line becomes clearer.

Was it positive? Or a false positive?

In despair, Kate rushes to get dressed and goes to the hospital, leaving James alone.

She had to take another test; this time she would have a blood test, which was no different.

Kate was indeed pregnant.
