Honestly, Gabriel believes that Xavier Valente has no idea how sensual what he said was. From the height of his arrogance, he makes no effort to be charming, it comes naturally to him.
Of course, if he were saying that to a woman, it would be very clear that he was flirting, after all, he is a well-known alpha male, a stud. The one known in all the magazines as the nation's heartthrob. But, he wasn't saying that to a woman, he was saying it to him, Gabriel Silva, the one who has an unspoken crush on Xavier Valente.
His conclusion regarding this hypothesis is that maybe Xavier has realized his sexual orientation and is trying to humiliate him. That seems much more logical.
"Don't expect that from me, I'm not a cat, I'm a person and I have my principles."
Gabriel's attitude deeply angered Xavier, trying to control his temper and failing miserably, he punched the steering wheel and said exasperatedly:
"You will work for me Gabriel Silva, I will not consider the things you said to me right now. Be at the company in two weeks, or I'll come get you for work myself."
Xavier then got out of the car, took the chair from the trunk and only then unlocked the car and Gabriel could get out.
"I'm not going to sit in that chair, I can walk to my front door."
However, his determination was all for nothing, when he took the first step, the rush to leave without Xavier's help resulted in a sharp pain in his rib that made his vision blur, he thought for a second that he was going to faint again in Xavier's presence and that would be a colossal shame.
Gathering strength to get through this, he took a breath.
"If you already had a contract signed with me, you would pay dearly for your testimony."
Before Gabriel could realize what Xavier said close to his ear, he was already pushing his wheelchair towards the front door.
He didn't quite know how it happened, he just knew he was being carried like a damsel home by the man who, although he hated him at that moment, made his heart beat faster from the first time he landed in a teen magazine.
Not that Gabriel bought that category of magazine, but his cousin, Vanda, was addicted and he had occasionally looked absentmindedly. He never wanted to be the 'gay' category cliche - effeminate and expansive, after everything his family always said about the sexuality of others, he thought that being more discreet would be advantageous. It was a category of prejudice, which he had unfortunately created within himself, due to the influence of others.
Look what this vile man was doing, he was even confused. When Dona Iris opened the door and came face to face with that scene, she immediately transformed into the protective mother she always was. She immediately lowered herself down to her son and said:
"My God! Son, what happened? What did this man do to you?"
Nothing that Gabriel supposedly ever wanted him to do - throw him against the wall and call him a lizard - was among his top preferences.
A little embarrassed by his lewd thoughts about that man and by his current situation and even by her squeezing his cheeks in front of Xavier Valente, Gabriel said:
"Calm down, Mom, it was nothing, I just wasn't feeling well during the interview.
"I knew you shouldn't have gone."
Dona Iris said as she stepped away from the door so Xavier could wheel Gabriel inside.
"Mrs. Silva, convince your son that it's in his best interest to come work with me at Majestic."
"I can't do that, the decision on that is entirely up to him. If Gabriel decided he doesn't want to, I won't insist."
Xavier realized that insisting now was a lost cause and he is a man who doesn't have time to waste, so he simply left.
As soon as Xavier crossed the door, Gabriel breathed a sigh of relief, however, Dona Iris didn't give him a minute's rest.
"Come on, Gael, explain to me what happened dear, what did that man do to you?"
Dona Iris, in her perception as a mother, had already realized that Gael was a little sensitive when it came to Xavier, so she concluded that he might be falling in love with Xavier, even though this man would probably never reciprocate him and that it was her biggest concern, she didn't want to see her son have his heart broken.
"He just took care of me, Mom, I was the fool this time, thinking I could be a superhero, when I'm just another loser."
"Don't talk about my son like that, you're my superhero."
"I'm an idiot, Mom, I turned down this job when it could have guaranteed you better treatment."
"Forget about it, son, let's just live our lives. And lift your head up, I don't want to see you like this."
That's what Gael did so far, today he had learned that it's no use disobeying medical recommendations, so he took advantage of the two weeks to update his resume, study and catch up on his shows.
Dona Iris would never force him to be in a place where he didn't feel well, just to secure some benefit for her. It's already too much pressure, everything Gael had to give up to take care of her, she won't demand more.
During these two weeks they also took the opportunity to enjoy each other's company. Something they hadn't done since Gael came back, because their heads were focused on surviving.
Gael greatly regretted not having money to take his mother to the movies, as he was on his last day of rest, as he was already feeling much better and the following week they would have to return to the routine.
Where his mother focuses on treatment and he focuses on finding a job so they don't starve to death.
