16.

“Greane, can you stop staring. Let’s go.” She had taken to calling him Greane. But that is just for now, soon, she will call me Kas like she used to. All in good time Kas, all in good time.

“It’s just that you’re just really pretty.”

“I know what I am, there’s a full length mirror in my doorway.” She said shamelessly as she strutted to his car. God... I can’t get enough of this Argen. He swiftly matched her pace and held the door open for her.

“Thanks.”

“You know Kain got his motorcycle delivered the other day.” He spoke suddenly, without turning his gaze from the road.

“His babe?”

“Yea. Want a ride?”

“Really? Would he really let you?” he turned to see her eyes alight with excitement. She wants to?

“I know where the keys are.” A mischievous smile formed.

“Tsk... You aren’t even scared of what he would do to you after.” She sounded a little let down.

“Are you worried about me?”

“No. Why would I be worried about a grown man?” she turned her attention out of the window as he pulled up at a traffic light.

“What are you trying to do?”

“What?” he replied, startled.

“Your hand.” She eyed his outstretched, about to touch her hair.

A wave of confusion swept over Casper as he stared at his hand, then at Argen and back at his hand. When did I...? “Sorry.” He dropped his hand. The rest of the drive will just be awkward now... well done Casper. He mentally kicked himself as the rest of the drive was continued in silence.

“Your grandfather really didn’t hold back with this one.” Argen stared with wide-eyed amazement at the building before her. It felt like something one would come across in tales of a king who would waste no effort to please their lover. With acres and acres of colourful exotic flowers and ornamental ponds surrounding the restaurant building, whose walls were made of one-way glass, so one could watch the gardens as they dined. It was breathtaking during the day, but simply out of the world at night.

“Things like this happen when you have way more money than you will ever need.” Casper came up to her side. “Shall we?” leading the way as he offered her his elbow.

Argen let out a horrified scream as she stood frozen in place as glass cups and fine china fell to the ground and with a crash sent shards flying in every direction. A waiter had tripped on himself sending the contents of his tray to the ground.

“Are you okay?” a worried Casper asked as he bent over to check her feet. Why is she trembling so much? “Argen say something. Are you alright.” She stood unmoving with her eyes fixed on the ground, staring at nothing in particular. “Argen?”

Still trembling, she finally looked up. “Argen, are you okay? You aren’t hurt right?” reaching out to sweep aside strands of her hair on her face only to be shocked when she flinched and drew back. She looked at him, on the brink of tears, with eyes full of fear.

“Argen?” he reached out again, this time a small nearly inaudible whimper escaped her lips a she brought her arms up to her face, as if to guard against something, as she flinched again. Is she afraid of me? Desperation crept in at the thought as he begged her to say something. “Argen, please say something.”

“I can’t do this. I- I’m sorry. I have to go.” She replied with a shaky voice as she struggled to fight back her tears.

“Why are you acting like this? Please... let me know what is happening.” He reached out to her again but held himself back for fear that her reaction may become even worse. She turned around and fled through the door they had just come through. What just happened? Casper followed after her, but by the time he got out, Argen was gone.

She sat at the back of the taxi, she had somehow managed to stop for herself, she held her hands to her mouth as she muffled her unstoppable sobs. Is he really going to keep pretending that he doesn’t know anything? She asked hopelessly as the memories of her skin burning and the crashing sounds of breaking bottles, whose shards got buried in her scalded skin replayed over and over again in her mind. Suddenly she was ** into a sea of despair as she was overwhelmed by a sensation she was all too familiar with. Her eyes rang as she could feel a familiar throbbing in her head. Her eyes felt as though they would pop out of her head at any moment. a wave of nausea swept over her causing her stomach to ache more than ever as she fought back the strong urge to vomit.

The taxi pulled up in front of Silver. Still trembling, she struggled with her purse as she brought out money to pay the driver.

“Miss, are you okay?” he asked concerned, for the third time since she entered his car, as he took the money.

Stumbling over herself, she dragged herself with great effort into the apartment and to the bathroom. Reaching for a cooling patch and her medicine before, heavily sinking to the ground. I can’t stay here like this... sobbing silently in anguish as she crawled to her bed.

Casper lay on the couch deep in thought as he stared blankly at the ceiling. I don’t understand why she would react like that. Is there something I’m missing? Why did she suddenly get so triggered?... something light and flat fell on his face.

“I’m had your things moved. The key to your apartment.” Kain motioned at the key card now in his hand. “We also need to get suits. Your grandfather’s birthday is in 2 months.”

“Kain.” He sat up.

“Yes?”

“hmm... nothing. Leave it.”

“You messed up?”

“I don’t know how, but I guess I did.” He began to recount the afternoon as Kain sat by his side listening quietly.

“Did you ever hit her?”

“God! No! I would never do such a thing.” Truly shocked that Kain would ever ask such a thing.

“Ask her to talk to you when she’s ready. Try not to push it.”

“I’ll just go for a drive.”

“Be careful.”
