Kain waited impatiently for her to return from the bathroom. His worried heart was put to rest as she stepped into the sitting room, bashful.
Perhaps, the events of the night have dawned on her. He found himself a little amused. He was even more pleased after taking in the sight of her in his clothes.
“I’m sorry.” She started, her eyes fixed on the floor. “I must have been a nuisance all this while and you took care of me, thank you.” She continued with a tiny voice.
She’s even cuter when she’s shy. Walking up to her, he took her hand and gently led her to the couch. She quietly complied. “The food’s here.” She didn’t move. She just sat still, staring down at her hands. Kain lowered himself beside her. “Argen knows you’re with me” gently tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She finally looked at him but still said nothing. “Would you like me to call her?” he added. She visibly relaxed as she shook her head.
“Kain.” He sat down beside her and lifted the lid off the tray on the table.
“What?” she watched him.
“My name. It’s Kain. Eat.” He offered to feed her a sandwich, with the intention of teasing her. To his surprise she leaned forward and bit into it. A smile tugged on the corner of his lips. Is she an animal?
Relieved that Argen knew of her whereabouts, Raine had let herself relax. Argen would never leave her with a suspicious character. If she let me go with him, then he must not be a bad person. But what is happening? Why is he feeding me... no. That’s not it. Rather, WHY AM I LETTING HIM FEED ME?
He looked to be enjoying himself. I ended up in the hands of a strange man.
He kept feeding her until the plate was empty.
“Good?” he asked as he offered her a cup of water.
She nodded. “You didn’t have anything though. Is that okay?”
“Hmmm... should I?”
She had noticed earlier but Kain was a very attractive man. She thought it was the alcohol amplifying how she saw him, but she was wrong. Rather, it downplayed his looks. Now, in this well lit room, she saw him properly. He had a boyish charm about him and for reasons she couldn’t understand she found herself getting swept along by him, though it felt somewhat comfortable. She felt his firm muscles when he held her, she could tell this man was well built. He had several piercings in his ear. “What do you do?” she wandered out loud as she watched him clear away the used plates.
“Business?” his head leaned a little to the side as he answered after thinking for a while. So cute.
“What kind of business?” as she let out a little laugh.
“Ummm...” He sat down next to her once again giving her one of the cups of coffee he had returned with. “I watch the market and invest?”
“You don’t really talk a lot, do you?” He shook his head. “I’m a paediatrician.” She continued as she accepted the cup with both hands.
“You like kids?”
She nodded. “I love them. They’re like little angels.”
“Must be really busy.” He took a sip and looked at her. “You go clubbing on your free days?”
“Oh no, I don’t. I just wanted to breathe a little.”
“Something happened?”
“I got suspended.”
“Why?” His expression was unreadable.
“I punched my supervisor.” He watched her intently as she continued. “The little bastard asked me to sleep with him in exchange for a good evaluation, like I’m bad at my job or something. I was really upset.” Feeling his hand ruffling her hair softly, she looked up. He was grinning.
“So you punched him?”
“Yes. Who would have known that picking up boxing would come in handy. Though, I was blamed for everything.” She took a sip from her cup. She thought she heard him say good girl under his breath but she wasn’t sure.
“The Green Olive?”
“Yeah, how did you know that’s my hospital?”
“Lucky guess.” He was still smiling. They were both quiet for a while.
“Are you always this kind to everyone?” Raine asked curiously.
“Why?”
“I dunno. It’s just... it’s weird when guys are like super nice for no reason.”
“You’re the one that came on to me though.” He said calmly as he placed his empty cup on the table.
“Riiight... I did that.” She replied flushed with embarrassment as she turned her gaze to her cup.
“Should I be nice with intention?”
“What?” his sudden question surprised her.
“Should I be nice to you with intention?” his smile was gone. His question felt very serious.
Raine put aside her cup, turning her body towards him. She leaned forward and softly kissed his lips. Pulling back, he stared at her with bewilderment. With no intention of backing down, she kissed him again. Harder and deeper. He returned her kiss this time, with sweet fervour. His arms encircled her waist, slowly, he pulled her atop him. With one hand pressing her waist heavily into his body, the other crept up to her neck, pulling aside wayward strands of hair.
They stopped, short of breath. “**” he whispered, breathless as he caressed her lips and her cheek passionately. Taking a deep breath, he covered her face with kisses as he came to his feet with her in his arms and made his way to the bedroom. Placing her gently on the bed, he leaned in and kissed her deeply. She encircled her arms around his neck pulling him in.
I ended up in the arms of an amazing man... Raine thought.
They kept on, and the night was spent in intoxicated ardour.
