Episode 18

Dafne had already gotten used to the new environment in the mansion. She was grateful that they only met for breakfast and dinner. Fortunately, she could enjoy her lunch alone, and she took advantage of those moments of tranquility to talk to her parents.

"Honey, why have you been calling us while you're eating lately?"

"I'm sorry, Dad... I've been very busy and these are my only free moments."

"Really? If so, you don't have to always talk to us."

She smiled as she saw the afflicted faces of her parents on the screen.

"But then you would be sad. Besides, you know I prefer to eat accompanied."

While they continued talking quietly, Samael approached her and greeted her with a kiss on the lips. She wanted to push him away, but being on a video call with her parents, she had to go along with it.

"Husband, what are you doing here?"

He caressed her face and started giving her little kisses on the cheek.

"I missed you."

Then he turned to the phone and greeted his in-laws very familiarly. Dafne just smiled while inside she was a chaotic mess, wanting to kill that man. However, she saw her parents too happy believing that their daughter had a good married life.

"Mom, Dad, I have to go. I love you."

Hanging up the call, she stood up and furiously cleaned her face. Samael looked at her with a malicious smile.

"Tell me the real purpose of being here."

"My grandmother wants us to go visit her. Get ready, we're leaving in an hour."

She walked to the room and put on the first thing she found. The closet was full of luxurious clothes that she had not yet worn. She limited herself to wearing a few garments that she considered comfortable to be at home. When she was in the car with Samael, he fixed her clothes and smiled with satisfaction.

"I knew that kind of clothes would look good on you, you should wear them more often."

She ignored him and kept her eyes on the window the rest of the way. Upon arrival, she took Samael's arm and put on a perfect smile as they entered. The old woman greeted them with an annoyed face and made them sit in front of her.

"When are you going to have children?"

Dafne looked at Samael with her eyes wide open. If before she didn't contemplate the idea of having his children, now even less.

"Grandmother, I already told you that Dafne and I have no plans to have children."

"Is that so?"

The old woman beckoned, and a man in a suit approached and handed her some papers, which she placed in front of Samael. He grabbed the papers and his body began to shake. Dafne looked at him and saw that his face looked almost disfigured with rage.

"Why are you going this far?"

"Did you think that marrying her was enough? If you don't have a child, as soon as I die the executives will jump on you like flies. They will try to take away everything I worked for."

"That won't happen. In all this time, I've worked hard and earned power and prestige on my own. I'm not someone they can step on."

The old woman scoffed loudly upon hearing him speak. This act made him feel angrier.

"On your own? They respect you because you have my support. Without me, you're nothing more than a useless orphan."

Dafne was scared; it was a fight of lions, and she was the prey caught between those beasts.

"The way to secure your power is to produce an heir. You must be perfect, there can be nothing they can use against you once I'm gone. So, as the contract says, if in this year you don't produce a legitimate heir, you will lose everything and I myself will hand over my shares to that pack of vultures."

The old woman looked at Dafne, who was trembling with fear.

"Poor girl, you should never have gotten into the wolf's mouth. The good thing is that you are decent; at least he knew how to choose a wife."

"Let's go!"

Samael stood up and took Dafne by the arm to leave, but the old woman stopped him.

"Let her out. I need to tell you something in private."

Dafne was escorted out by a maid, and upon leaving she felt relieved. However, that clause that the old woman had imposed on Samael worried her.

Samael looked at the old woman with hatred and walked to the window where he could watch Dafne.

"I see that you are not indifferent to her."

The old woman spoke slyly as she looked at him. He turned and looked at her with disdain.

"Of course, she's my wife."

"You know I have eyes and ears everywhere, don't you?"

Samael remained silent. It was obvious that she was always watching him.

"When I told you to leave that young man, it was the first time you disobeyed me. Even for a while, that relationship seemed convenient to me; that way we would not have problems with a bastard son."

Samael still did not answer, he just listened to the woman.

"But I never imagined that you were so obsessed as to make him live in the same house as your wife... I don't know who to feel more sorry for."

The old woman made a dubious expression as she shook her head.

"From what I've heard, you've managed to control the situation. However, I don't think the relationship is such that she would agree to give you children, is it?"

Samael lowered his head; he knew it was impossible. They hadn't even slept together again after she found out everything.

"Don't you dare have children with any woman other than her, do you understand? A child out of wedlock is totally unacceptable. Do what you have to do with her; remember that you only have five months before the time is up."

Samael got into the car and saw Dafne asleep. He rested her head on his leg and ordered the driver to go back to the mansion. Upon arriving, Dafne woke up and noticed she was resting on Samael's legs and immediately backed away. They both entered, and he followed her to her room. She was nervous; she was still thinking about what the old woman had said.

"Dafne... I need an heir."

Samael sat on the furniture and crossed his legs elegantly. She looked at him as if he were crazy.

"Well, go and have it on the other side."

"Grandmother was clear, it must be a legitimate child."

"I'm not going to have your child. If you want a legitimate child, then divorce me and marry a whore who's capable of giving birth to the children of a pig like you."

The mere idea of carrying in her womb a child of that man she hated so much disgusted her. Samael was offended by Dafne's offensive statement, and if before he was going to do it just out of obligation, now he wanted her to bear his child just to dominate her.

"You're wrong about something. You're not in a position to refuse. Remember?"

He was threatening her again, but she felt such revulsion that his threats were worthless to her.

"Then do it, damn you! Ruin my parents! I'd rather live in misery with my parents than have to bear your child."

Samael stood up and left the room, slamming the door shut. She was determined. His threat was no use anymore; such was the hatred she had for him that she preferred to lose everything.
