When Dafne entered her room, she began to tremble. She had gotten carried away by her emotions, had said things she shouldn’t have, and now feared what Samael might do to her.
She locked the door and then grabbed a pillow and a sheet, which she took to the closet where she lay down on the floor to sleep. She was so scared that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t fall asleep. However, it was already late and that made her feel relieved; Samael most likely hadn't found out about anything.
She sighed with relief, but still didn't come out of there. When she finally felt sleep overcoming her, she felt her body being pulled by her feet with force; she didn't even scream in surprise. Samael dragged her to the center of the room and made her stand up. She was scared, her body trembling. He raised his hand and she closed her eyes. He stroked her head and straightened her pajamas. She opened her eyes and he was smiling.
“Did I scare you?”
She didn't answer. She was afraid of answering wrong and him ending up hitting her.
“I guess so, I’m sorry. I just wanted to play a little joke on you when I saw you sleeping there.”
Samael approached her and hugged her. She stood still and held her breath. He began to smell her neck and hair. She wanted to push him away but her body wouldn't respond.
“Your food was delicious.”
He began to caress her back as he pressed his body against hers.
“I heard the argument you had with Das in the kitchen.”
“I… I...”
She was trembling and started to cry. She didn't know what was happening but she just wanted it to be over quickly.
“Shhh, don’t cry. I’m not angry.”
He took her face in his two hands and began to kiss her forehead, nose, cheeks, and lips.
“Today you made me remember those months that we were in your hometown. You were so bright back then, just seeing you I knew it had to be you.”
He carried her and gently laid her on the bed as he tried to be intimate with her. Dafne felt nauseous and pushed him away with an expression of disgust.
“Don’t touch me with your dirty hands!”
He put on an offended face and tried to kiss her by force, but she managed to break free.
“Get back in bed!”
“No!”
Samael got up and took off his belt as he walked towards her. He grabbed her arm and ripped off the top of her pajamas, exposing her body. She bit her lower lip as her ears turned red with shame. She wanted to run away, for the earth to swallow her whole.
“Kneel.”
She didn’t move an inch, to which he forcefully made her kneel. Then he began to hit her with the belt, making her cry out in pain. She put her hands on the floor to keep from falling while she was being beaten. Her tears fell to the floor and for the first time in her life she wished she were dead.
When dawn broke, Clair and another maid took care of healing her back. Dafne was in so much pain that she couldn’t even move. Samael supervised every minute of the healing while looking at her with eyes of regret. He regretted having hit her like that. He even tried to justify his actions but he couldn't. When she rejected him his mind clouded over and he just acted like an animal.
Samael never thought that she would find out about Das's existence. Although he hadn't said anything to anyone, the truth was that he too had strong feelings for him, which he confirmed when he saw him with his luggage trying to leave him. His plans to live a quiet married life had been ruined, however, he trusted that over time she would accept her new destiny and everything would flow as he wanted, but her constant rejections, her looks of hatred, her indifference made him be filled with a feeling he couldn’t explain.
When Das tried to leave him he felt desperate. He couldn’t lose the man he loved either. He could live his whole life carrying Dafne’s hatred, but he couldn’t lose the only person for whom he had risked everything. With no other choice, he threatened to cancel the sponsorship for the orphanage he had come from. He knew that Das loved those children above all else. Having Dafne and Das under the same roof made him feel indescribable happiness. He wanted with all his might for Dafne to forgive him and for the three of them to live as one, however, she moved even further away than she already was and in his eagerness to get her attention he decided to be cruel to her. He preferred her to look at him with hatred than not to look at him at all. Although at first that was enough for him, she began to fear him and he noticed it. That trembling look made his heart ache. On more than one occasion he saw her sleeping and other times he couldn't take it and lay down next to her to feel her smell and warmth, but all this left him with an insatiable longing for what he could no longer obtain.
When he left Dafne's room, he saw Das looking at him in disappointment. Each time, it was followed more times that Das looked at him that way and he felt hurt. He had done everything for him, and even so, he judged him and made him feel worse than he already did.
“Samael, I’m sleeping at the orphanage today…”
“You can’t. You have to go back.”
“Try to stop me and you'll regret it.”
Das spoke coldly to him and left. He punched the wall, hurting his knuckles.
“Damn it.”
