Episode 9

With the pills, she managed to sleep comfortably. She started leaving her room more often, and since the weather wasn't so cold anymore, she began to enjoy the garden. She didn't run into Samael again, and she hardly made any more calls with her mother, always making excuses that she was busy with her studies, but the truth was that she didn't have the heart to lie blatantly to her parents.

One day, while having tea in the garden, she saw Samael's car arrive. As she got up to go back inside, she froze when she saw the slender boy standing next to him. He was small, only a couple of inches taller than her, and his features were delicate. His blue eyes, like the sea, gazed lovingly at Samael as he gave him a warm smile with his red lips. His pink-tinted hair made him look even more beautiful than he already was, and she couldn't help but compare herself to him.

She was captivated by the beautiful man, and when she wanted to react, she already had them in front of her.

"Dafne, this is my lover. From today on, he will live in this house."

"What?"

She was lost, feeling so humiliated she didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"He's my partner, and as you already know, I don't see why I should leave him living in that house."

She just walked away without saying a word, but she could see a sad expression beneath that charming smile. After that day, she shut herself back in her room, dependent on her sleeping pills, spending day and night under the effects of that medication. After Clair noticed this, she informed Samael what was happening. That night, when Dafne was getting out of the shower, she saw the figure of a man next to her bed. She screamed and turned on the light, and upon seeing Samael, she started yelling at him while covering herself.

"What are you doing here? Get out!"

"Why are you drugging yourself?"

She opened her eyes wide and didn't know what to answer.

"From now on, I'll take these, and you're forbidden from entering this room during the day."

Dafne lowered her head, full of helplessness. She knew it would be useless to try to fight, and maybe if she did, she would be beaten again. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she tried to hide them. He came closer to her and made her look at him, grabbing her chin.

"What are you trying to do with that attitude? Hurt me?"

She looked at him in confusion and then gave an amused expression.

"How could I possibly hurt you? Have you forgotten that you are the one who exerts all your power over me?"

Samael was silent as he looked at her.

"Forget it... I can't even control that part of me. Just get out. I want to sleep."

He left the room, and she wrapped herself in the sheets, crying, but quickly fell asleep under the effect of the pill she had taken before showering. Unable to shut herself in her room, she felt nervous. She wanted to let out her frustration and anxiety somehow, but she didn't know how to do it. Clair suggested she resume her classes, but she refused. They were going to be useless for her anyway. After wandering around the house like a ghost, she found a place that made her feel at peace. It was a space in the greenhouse where there was a kind of cage surrounded by vines. It was warm and quiet. It took Clair a while to find her hiding place, but upon seeing her sleeping on the floor with a peaceful expression, she smiled and walked away, leaving her to rest.

Dafne didn't know how much time had passed, but she hadn't seen those two men again. The mansion was so big that if they set their minds to it, they could live out the rest of their lives without seeing each other. After her mother repeatedly complained about not being able to see her, she agreed to her demands, and they made calls. Fortunately, her face had returned to normal. She excitedly showed her parents the greenhouse and even showed them the new plants she had planted herself. Her parents saw the enthusiasm with which she showed them and were relieved to see her well.

Little by little, Dafne was resuming certain activities from her past routine. Although she had no choice but to live there, she preferred not to be a ghost in the place for the sake of her parents. She wanted them to always see her well. The employees were happy when they saw Dafne's smiling face handing out sweets, cookies, and cakes she had prepared. The rumor that the lady of the house had returned to shine quickly reached the ears of Samael, who smiled upon hearing it from the mouth of his driver.

"So... She made those sweets?"

"Yes, sir."

The driver noticed Samael's sharp gaze on the sweets and knew immediately that he also wished to eat them.

"Would you like some?"

The man asked as he extended his arm. Samael looked at him for a few seconds and then turned away.

Dafne was preparing a chocolate cake with Clair and another employee when the young man timidly entered the kitchen, making Clair and the other employee nervous.

"Excuse me. Can I have some water?"

Dafne was surprised to hear him speak Spanish. His voice was as beautiful as his appearance. Dafne stared at him intently, and he, noticing her presence, became nervous.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to bother."

The young man immediately left the kitchen as if he were fleeing. Clair looked at Dafne nervously.

"Excuse me, ma'am."

"Why are you apologizing?"

"We can't refuse the young master. Although we know the situation, we can't intervene."

"I know. He said he was thirsty. You can go and attend to him."

Dafne smiled and continued decorating the cake, pretending that she didn't care, but the truth was that seeing the young man affected her greatly. She never considered herself an ugly woman, but she didn't feel beautiful either, and seeing the man her husband had cheated on her with, noticing how handsome he was, made her feel bad. Everything about him was better than her. When night came, she ran to her room as usual to avoid Samael. Clair accompanied her, and before saying goodbye, Dafne took her arm.

"Wait... Can we talk?"

"Of course."

Clair entered the room and stood waiting for Dafne to speak. She took her arm and made her sit on the furniture.

"Clair... Can you tell me what that young man's life is like here?"
