Episode 14

"If you weren't going to tell me everything, why did you start talking?" Robert asked.

Edgar didn't answer him, and as soon as Robert was dressed, Martin rushed into the room, crying, and hugged his grandson.

"I came home as soon as Edgar called me, telling me that you had woken up. How are you feeling, Robert? I'm very happy that you're well," Martin said, still hugging his grandson and crying with happiness.

"I'm fine, Grandpa, but I'm surprised. I woke up married? Don't try to tell me it was for any other reason than the one I know you've been asking me about for a long time. Do you think I don't know you did this so you could have a great-grandchild?"

"I had to do it. I assure you, I wasn't thinking at that moment about marrying you to Grace because of my will. Everyone knew how to comment about you being dead. I was fed up with it. Your wife's family was going through a difficult situation, thanks to my nephew. I didn't want the company the man fought to keep standing to be destroyed because of one of Leonardo's whims."

"Leonardo? So he's Grace's ex? How come I never knew about this before? He's always been here at home, but I never saw him with her," Robert said thoughtfully.

He decided not to say anything to his wife. He would wait for her to tell him, as she had the chance when he talked about his cousin touching her, and he said he wouldn't let him do that again.

"He was never here with her, he always came alone or with Zara, who I believed to be his fiancee. Now I ask you, have you forgotten that you were never home at night? I hope now that you're married, you won't be seeking satisfaction from high-class escorts," Martin said.

"Grandpa, what did they say about the accident? Do you know what caused it?" he asked.

Before his grandfather could say anything, Rodrigo walked into the room and hugged his brother.

Robert would never distrust Rodrigo, but Grace soon appeared and felt disgusted when she saw them hugging. She felt a knot in her stomach because she knew her husband's brother was envious, and even without proof, she was sure he was involved in what led to Robert almost dying in the plane crash.

Robert noticed that Grace ran to the bathroom as if she was sick and became worried. She soon came back and before she left the room, her husband said:

"Grace, are you alright?"

Rodrigo, unaware of Grace's first night, took the opportunity to embarrass her in front of his brother, saying:

"Don't worry, brother, your most worthy wife must be pregnant. Grandpa found a woman with the complete package to become his wife. I just think he should have chosen one that wasn't Leonardo's ex-fiancee."

Grace looked at Rodrigo quite irritated and said:

"Could you leave me alone with Robert, please?"

Martin looked furiously at Rodrigo, who soon began to walk towards the door, but Robert asked his brother to come back.

She looked at her husband and remained silent, waiting to see what action he would now take against her.

Rodrigo, with a very excited expression, thinking he was returning from the war victorious, saw his brother asking him to come closer. As soon as he did what Robert asked, he punched him and said:

"If you judge the honor of my wife, even if I'm not walking, I'll make you taste your own blood. I won't allow anyone, much less my brother, to judge my wife."

Rodrigo stormed out, yelling that he'll see who this woman who claims to be his wife is. Grace smiled and thanked him for believing in her.

"Beautiful, I know that the night we met, you were a virgin. Did you think I wouldn't notice? Are you pregnant?" he asked.

"I'm not sure yet, but I think so. My mother scheduled an appointment for me this afternoon," she said, looking at him.

"About Leonardo, was that the first time he tried to rape you?" he asked, looking at her.

Grace nodded and Robert continued to look at her. The two stared at each other for a while, then he said:

"Did you love him?"

"I spent years engaged to a person I didn't even really know. I was cheated on, betrayed, and he destroyed my family's company as if it were just a stone that needed to be moved out of his way. I saw my parents, who struggled to raise the family income from scratch, go bankrupt because of Leonardo's bruised ego. So if I ever loved him, whatever I felt for him was pushed aside. No one can live loving someone who releases thorns. Love is delicate like a rose, but it can also hurt if you're not careful with the thorns."

"Beautiful, I already felt how painful it is to be hurt by thorns, and that's why I didn't want to get married, until you arrived and became my wife. I know how risky and suffocating it can be to leave your heart in the hands of another person, so no matter how hard I try to be loving with you, I've put on a cactus shell and it hasn't been easy to take it off, even though I want to do it for you."
