Episode 20

"Is it that obvious that I didn't get a wink of sleep?" he asked, staring at his wife. She was beautiful with her hair down that morning.

Robert's grandfather looks at him and asks, "What happened, Robert? You usually sleep well at night. Are you having trouble sleeping for some reason?"

Before he could answer, Grace smiles and says, "You can be sure that I'm not the reason. By the way, why don't you tell your grandfather, Robert, that you don't want to stay married? That way I can get out of your mansion and out of your life."

"You're not going anywhere. You're my wife and you're going to stay here with me. The only way you're leaving here is if I move too," Robert said, irritated.

Grace looks at him and immediately says, "I'm your wife, but I don't need to stay married to a man who, besides not loving me, is unfaithful. If you're so fond of your childhood friend, why don't you just file for divorce and marry her?"

Grace gets up from the chair and walks towards the bathroom. As soon as she enters, she locks the door, takes a deep breath, washes her face, and leaves in the direction of her room. She grabs her purse and goes downstairs.

Passing by Robert, the two look at each other but say nothing. Outside the mansion, she sees the driver cleaning one of the cars and says, "I want the keys to Robert's car."

"Mrs. Graham, I can take you wherever you want," the driver said, wiping his hands with a cloth.

"No need, I want the car key immediately, please."

The driver goes to the garage and retrieves the key to one of the luxury cars from a box, handing it to Grace. As she was leaving, near the mansion's exit gate, Robert appears and asks, "Where's my wife?"

"She asked me for a key, sir. I asked her if she wanted me to take her somewhere, but she just insisted that I give her the key. Did I do wrong?" the driver asked, embarrassed.

"Don't worry, she's not a prisoner, she can go wherever she wants," Robert said, then went inside and called Grace.

The phone rang but she didn't answer. As soon as she arrived at the newspaper where her friend Sophie worked, she went to the reception desk and everyone looked at her. Grace was now a public figure and married to the richest man in Paris.

Sophie, who was arriving at the newspaper, sees her friend and they go up together.

"So, did you come to do an exclusive with me?" Sophie asked.

"Actually, I know you're at work, but I just needed to get out of the house and the only place I could think of coming was here."

"No problem, Grace. What happened? Aren't you happy in your new married life? There are some rumors that your husband is paraplegic," Sophie said.

Grace looks around and then says, "Yes, he is, but he'll be fine."

"So what happened to him? They said there was a serious accident, is that true, friend?"

"Sophie, what I'm going to tell you, you can't write, you can't publish in the newspaper."

"Friend, I'm not going to expose what happened to your husband, but you know they're going to find out about him sooner or later, but I know you're here for another reason, so tell me what's going on. You look pale. Are you okay?"

"I'm pregnant, Sophie," Grace said, then recounted everything that had happened between her and Robert.

"Look, friend, I know you shouldn't feel trapped with anyone, but you might not know what happened to Robert in the past, since he himself covered up all the news, making sure that newspapers and gossip websites didn't talk about what happened to him. Your husband was engaged, and even though he's a private man, he allowed the press to be at his wedding. A few years ago, he went to the altar. A newspaper photographer was there that day, and after he waited for his bride, as soon as she entered the church, followed by a man who claimed to be his best friend, he stopped the wedding and said he was in love with Robert's fiancee. She then said that she was pregnant by her then lover. But it turns out that this lover, who humiliated your husband that day, the day he believed he was marrying the woman he loved, was his best friend. He was left at the altar, ashamed before family and friends. That's why he moved from Chicago to Paris, and since his family was so influential here in the city, nobody publicized what happened. He distanced himself from everyone who was at the wedding as soon as he moved to Paris, so no one here knew about this event," Sophie said, leaving Grace worried about Robert.

Grace thanks her friend and then leaves the newspaper, gets in the car, and drives back to the mansion.

As soon as she arrives at the mansion, she sees Rodrigo about to hand Robert a drink. She runs and throws the glass on the floor, causing both of them to look at her.

Robert goes to the kitchen, pushing his wheelchair, calling for Edgar, leaving his brother and wife alone for a moment.

"What did you do, you crazy woman? Why did you throw Robert's drink?" the husband of Grace's brother asked furiously.

"You think I don't know what you're trying to do? I'm not going to let your plan to destroy your brother's life come to fruition. If you want to kill your brother, you'll have to get me out of your life first, you lunatic, envious psychopath."
