Ajeng's heart was pounding erratically and she kept clasping her hands together. She watched as Mama Mona began to take out her phone and dial a number.
A number that she was 100% sure belonged to Grandma Putri.
Thud! The worried expression on her face was evident, to the point where Sean noticed it.
"Mbak Ajeng, don't be scared," Sean said as he got off the sofa and approached Mbak Ajeng who was sitting on the carpet.
"Mbak Ajeng isn't scared of getting scolded, Sen. Mbak Ajeng is scared of disappointing Grandma Putri."
Hearing that, Sean hugged Mbak Ajeng tightly.
"No matter what Grandma says, from now on Mbak Ajeng is my nanny forever. So when I decide to go with Mama, Mbak Ajeng will also come with me," the boy explained, still hugging his nanny tightly.
Ajeng smiled.
She returned the hug.
In her heart, she always wondered how a boy as young as Sean could have such mature thoughts.
Instead of being happy, Ajeng sometimes felt sad. Perhaps Sean matured faster because of the circumstances.
"But later, we still have to apologize to Grandma, to everyone at home, including uncle Deri, right?" Ajeng asked, breaking their hug and looking at each other.
Sean nodded, smiling slightly as a sign of his obedience to his nanny.
Meanwhile, on the other end, Mona's call was finally connected to Grandma Putri...
"Hello Grandma," Mona said, her first greeting after a long period of no communication between them.
"It's me, Mona," Mona added.
"Why are you calling?" Grandma Putri replied, her mind in chaos because Sean and Ajeng had suddenly disappeared. Adding to that was Reza leaving town and now Mona calling.
It felt like Grandma Putri's head was about to explode.
"Sean is with me," Mona said.
Instantly, Grandma Putri sank into the sofa in the living room, her breath ragged, rising and falling roughly.
"How could Sean be there? Did you pick him up from school?!"
"Yes," Mona lied.
"Unbelievable! How dare you take my grandson, Mona!" Grandma Putri shouted, her voice so loud that even Grandpa Agung, who was on the terrace of the house, could hear her. He was ordering all the male workers in the house to search for his grandson.
And upon hearing his wife's screams, Grandpa Agung rushed in.
Seeing Grandma Putri cursing on the phone...
"Never think you can take Sean away from us! I will come get him now!"
"Sean wants to stay with me, Grandma. He asked for it himself," Mona explained, not feeling daunted by Grandma Putri's threats.
"Now Sean is all grown up, Grandma, please, don't let him witness our arguments directly. I beg you, at least let Sean stay with me for a while," Mona pleaded.
Grandma Putri hesitated, reminded of her grandson, instantly making her weak. Sean must not see this argument.
"I will still come get Sean, I will ask Sean myself what he wants." Grandma Putri immediately hung up the phone. Then she looked at Grandpa Agung in front of her with a blank stare.
"Why, Grandma?" Grandpa Agung asked.
"Sean is with Mona, ask Ryan to come home. We need to go get Sean immediately."
"Alright, calm yourself." Grandpa Agung gently stroked his wife's arm.
Every time they talked about that woman, it always managed to hurt them.
