Vicky's Narrative
I spent a good while talking to Valentina, and honestly, I'm very happy that she is in charge of the Rehabilitation Center. It allows me to work and focus wholeheartedly on Max's recovery. Valentina almost had a heart attack when I told her that Maximiliano was none other than the man from that time at the restaurant, yes, the actual son of Zeus. Currently, his physical characteristics have diminished, of course, after three years without any exercise, he simply fell into oblivion. Tonight, I will set my plan in motion, Matheo. My son is a determined child, and since doña Carlotta gave me the information that Max used to adore children, I will try to enlist Matheo's help. It should be an easy mission for my boy.
I was finishing up some paperwork when Don Maximo and Doménico entered. They had just arrived at the house and came to discuss one of their ideas to convince Max.
Doménico: Vicky, how are you? Don Maximo and I have been thinking that since Max doesn't want to accept therapy, it's best to force him.
Don Maximo: That's right, daughter. It's enough to have approached him nicely. So, the best course of action is to scold him and make him resume therapy, whether he likes it or not.
Vicky: I don't think that's the most advisable approach. From my professional perspective, when we subject someone to mandatory rehabilitation instead of allowing them to recover voluntarily, we can inflict deeper damage. I believe we should wait for 15 days, strictly following my treatment plan. By then, Max's legs will start to awaken, and that will motivate him to want to do it. It's clear that if we start early, the effects will be more noticeable, but since he is a stubborn person, we'll let him come to me.
Don Maximo: Alright, daughter. We will follow your recommendation then. By the way, I thought I heard you talking to your administrator when we came in. Everything is fine in Spain?
Vicky: Yes! Don Maximo was updating me on the affairs of the rehabilitation center. In my country, we have a saying that goes, "The owner's eye fattens the livestock."
Don Maximo: You're absolutely right, daughter. Absolutely right.
Doménico: By the way, Vicky, Don Maximo told me that your relatives were in the same place as Max during the attack. I'm really sorry for their loss.
Vicky: Yes, Doménico, that day we were celebrating my son's birthday, mine, and the anniversary of the rehabilitation center. Sometimes I think that instead of celebrations, that day has become a tragic one for Matheo and me.
Doménico: Don't think of it that way. Although fate is cruel, there will always be a reason to smile.
Vicky: That's true. By the way, Don Maximo, I wanted to ask for permission. Matheo and I had our birthdays a few days ago, and I would like to sing him a birthday song with all of you, if that's not too much trouble.
Don Maximo: Of course, not at all. In fact, if you wish, we can have a grand celebration for you and the child.
Vicky: Hahaha, no, no need to bother. The most special thing for us has always been celebrating our birthdays together. We're not into big parties.
Don Maximo: Well then, let's not talk about it anymore. Tomorrow, we'll bring a cake.
Vicky: Don't worry, I'll take care of making the cake and dinner. You will be my guests.
Doménico: Then, it's settled. I'll go buy gifts. By the way, what does Matheo like?
Vicky: It's not necessary, but if we want to surprise Matheo, he loves chess books and anything related to Steven Hopkins.
Doménico: Really? What a peculiar child 😂
Vicky: Hahaha, yes, but don't be fooled by his cuteness. He has a mischievous mind.
Everyone: Hahaha
Don Maximo: Well, let's head to the kitchen before Chabela or Carlotta come looking for us. Doménico, would you like to stay for dinner?
Doménico: It would be a pleasure, Don Maximo.
We all left the assigned office to start working and as we entered the kitchen, we were surprised to see Max with Matheo on his lap. I hadn't had a chance to see his smile before, and it truly is beautiful when he smiles. Seeing him with my child on his lap stirred unfamiliar emotions within me. For a brief moment, our gazes met, and I wished Don Ogro wasn't so bitter. "But Vick, calm down. You came here to work!" my subconscious shouted at me. Everyone was thrilled to see that Matheo achieved in a matter of hours what everyone had been trying for weeks. How clever my baby is! Dinner went by as pleasant as always, with everyone laughing at Matheo's antics. I can only partly believe that Max helped him with his math classes, but something more happened between them. I'll find out later. The last thing I heard from Matheo this morning was that they didn't have a pleasant encounter.
After dinner, we all headed to our rooms. As we were leaving, I noticed a call from Venezuela. "Strange, I don't have any family there. Who could be calling me?" I thought. It must be around 2:00 in the afternoon over there, so I decided to answer.
Vicky: Sorry, I have to take this call. Matheo, can you go ahead to the room? I'll join you in a few minutes.
Teo: Okay, Mom...
Call...
[Good afternoon, who am I speaking to?]
[Hello, Victoria. Don't you remember me?]
[My body trembled. I would never forget that voice, the wretched man who murdered my mother. What do you want for calling me?]
[You thought you could get rid of me, you damn brat. You have something that belongs to me.]
[You miserable bastard, I have nothing of yours.]
[Oh no, don't forget that Matheo is my son, and I will take him away from you.]
[You have no power to take him away. Matheo is registered as my son, so don't waste your time.]
[Don't let your guard down, you will soon hear news from me.]
That miserable Samuel hung up, my goodness, this can't be happening. That bastard got out of prison, and worse, he wants to take my child away. But no, I will never allow that. Tears streamed down my face as I was leaving and stumbled into Don Maximo and Domenico.
Vicky: I'm sorry. (I said, lowering my gaze.)
Don Maximo: Dear, is everything alright with that call? You seem scared. Domenico was just about to leave.
Vicky: Yes, Don Maximo, nothing to worry about.
Domenico: Are you sure? You can trust us.
Vicky: Well, the truth is no. The call I received is from a past I thought I had buried. Matheo's father is the one who murdered my mother, and a few days ago, I received a notification that he had been released from prison. The call I just received was from him, threatening to take my child away.
Don Maximo: Don't worry, my child. You and Matheo will be well protected here. I will never let anyone harm you. You are a part of the family.
Domenico: Don't worry about anything, Victoria. Not a hair will be harmed on my nephew's head.
Vicky: Nephew?
Domenico: Oh, yes. Today, Teo officially made me his uncle.
Vicky: Hahaha, that Matheo and his antics. Thank you, really. I hope Matheo and I don't cause any inconvenience.
Don Maximo: Don't worry. To put your mind at ease, Domenico is an undercover agent, and he will find out the whereabouts of the damned man who killed your mother. Just give us his name, and my people will start working on it tomorrow.
Vicky: His name is Samuel Lopez. I think I have a picture of him, I'll show you.
[Picture of Samuel López]
Doménico: Very well, Vicky, this will be very useful. Don't worry about anything, they will be safe here.
Vicky: Thank you both.
Don Maximo: No, daughter, thank you and Matheo for being here for just one day and already making a difference in Max.
Vicky: Speaking of Teo, I'll leave you now. I have to go rescue his son from my little devil.
Doménico: Hahaha, I would say the opposite, rescuing poor Teo from Maximiliano.
Everyone laughs.
Vicky: Well, see you tomorrow. And again, Don Maximo and Doménico, thank you so much for helping me with Matheo. I wanted to ask you to keep this secret. My son knows only part of the truth, but I have never told him anything about his father or that he was the murderer of our mother.
Don Maximo: Don't worry, daughter, we will be careful about that.
(I walked towards my room, entered, but Matheo wasn't there, so I went to look for him in the room assigned to him. Strangely, he wasn't there either. Could he have gone to take a shower? I don't think so. That child doesn't take a shower at this time even for all the chessboards in the world. I walk into my room and realize he is in Max's room. Well, well, this is certainly a surprise. I look inside the room and see my son, looking relaxed, lying on the bed with Maximiliano.)
I was retreating slowly so that I wouldn't be seen, and suddenly I bumped into Doña Carlotta.
Vicky: Sorry, Doña Carlotta, I couldn't find Teo but I’ve found him now.
Doña Carlotta: Don't worry, dear, I just witnessed the same scene and I was coming to find you to thank you.
Vicky: Thank you? For what?
Doña Carlotta: For bringing that wonderful child with you. Today Teo surprised us, we had never seen Max so happy before. Today, through Matheo, I witnessed a side of my son I had never seen.
Vicky: Well, that's called paternal instinct. Even though children may not share our blood, just having one around awakens that feeling. I think that's what Teo awakened in Max. After all, he's not such a monster!
Doña Carlotta: Hahaha, when you get to know my son well, he's the most wonderful man in the world.
Vicky: Well, that must be very deep-down because so far he has shown me a different side.
We both laughed, said our goodbyes, and went to our rooms. I decided to leave Matheo for a while longer and later I will come to get him to sleep with me. Meanwhile, I will take a bath.
