I stepped out of the bathroom and changed into my pajamas, this time opting for a regular, complete set. After the embarrassment of last night when Mr. Ogre saw me in my Dino pajamas, I don't want to wear them anymore. Tomorrow, I'll be making my little boy's birthday cake, the one he has been longing for. He asked for a chessboard-shaped cake before turning another year older, and well, I will fulfill his wish. I'll also ask Nana Chabela to help me prepare dinner; my little one loves pizza, so that will be the dish. Once I finished dressing up, I headed straight to Max's room to find Teo. I entered with caution and noticed that they both were fast asleep.
I entered quietly so as not to wake anyone, but it didn't help much as Don Ogre woke up.
Max: What are you doing?
Vicky: I came for my son.
Max: He's already asleep, why don't you leave him?
Vicky: I don't want to bother you, besides, he has trouble sleeping.
Max: I don't care about that, my bed is big enough, please leave him.
Vicky: I don't think it's a good idea, my child is used to waking up with me by his side. Plus, I've been sleeping with him for 5 years, I can't get used to not having him in my bed.
Max: Then sleep with us, I promise not to bite.
(Sleeping with him, with the two most important men in my life, this must be a dream. I've never stopped thinking about that handsome man from the attack incident, his facial expression captivated me.)
Max's Narrative:
(I don't know what just came out of my mouth, it feels like someone else is controlling my words. What was that? I just asked a woman to sleep with me, without any sexual intentions. I understand about the child, watching him sleep touched my heart, I could say I fell in love with this child in a paternal sense. But what's happening to me with her?
Vicky: Are you sure tomorrow you won't kick us out for sleeping with you?
Max: Hahaha, no, I won't kick you out. Plus, I made a deal with Max. I'll start rehabilitation therapy with you tomorrow.
Vicky: I'm really happy for you. In that case, you deserve to sleep with my baby. That will be my reward for encouraging you. I'm leaving, goodnight. If anything happens, don't hesitate to shout, I'm just across.
Max: Goodnight, Miss... rest well.
Miss Dino left my room, and I stayed for a while contemplating Teo. He looks so peaceful while sleeping. I love this child, he is adorable. I wish I could have had a child like him someday.
I was already falling asleep when suddenly I heard Teo sleep talking [Mommy, why don't you give me a dad? I want a dad and also nieces, siblings]. Well, this child does need a father figure. From what little he has told me about their lives, it has been tough. I approached him to hug him, but he quickly snuggled up to my chest and fell into a deep sleep, and stopped talking. I was stunned by his action, as I have never slept with a child like this before. But I love the peace he brings me and the fact that he's here. I guess I won't return him to Miss Dino at night.
Monday (dinner and surprise birthday for Matheo)
Vicky's Narrative:
As always, I woke up very early, although I admit I missed my good morning kisses from my little Teo. I decided to get up, take a bath, and get ready before going downstairs for breakfast. Today, I will finally begin Max's rehabilitation, so I will choose one of my cute work outfits that I love.
Well, I'm ready. It's strange, Matheo always wakes up early. It's odd that he hasn't come to pick me up. Leaving my room, I came across Max coming out of his.
Vicky: Good morning, Mr. Maximiliano.
Max: Good morning, Miss Victoria.
Vicky: Please call me Vicky.
Max: If you call me Max, I feel old when you call me sir (he replied, looking at me intimidatingly, which made me very nervous. It won't be easy to work with him).
Vicky: Has Matheo woken up yet?
Max: No! He's still sleeping. Did you know he talks in his sleep?
Vicky: Hahaha, yes, he does it almost every time. Other times he has nightmares, those are the ones that worry me the most because they stem from trauma during pregnancy.
Max: Can one remember events from a pregnancy?
Vicky: Yes, of course. Our subconscious represses our memories. Unfortunately, all of my child's memories are traumatic, even though we've seen psychologists and his dreams have reduced, he still has them from time to time.
(We were heading to the kitchen, and I was telling Max everything about Matheo.)
Max: Can I know what those traumas were?
Vicky: As you can see, Matheo isn't really my son; he's my brother. I didn't get along with my mother's husband, so on my birthday, I decided to visit her. She asked me to come because I didn't live with them, and she didn't trust him. That day, I spent the morning with my mother, but I left the house early before that wretched man arrived. I knew he always came home drunk and abused my mother, but no matter how much I asked her to leave him, she was blindly in love with him. While I was at work, I received a call from the hospital informing me that my mother had been admitted. Those were the most terrible hours of my life - both of them were in danger. My mother was conscious, so she chose to save Matheo's life. I registered the child as mine; it was my mother's dying wish.
Max: That despicable man... What happened to him?
Vicky: He went to prison, but justice in Venezuela is crap, so he only got a 5-year sentence.
Max: So, he's already free?
Vicky: Yes, and even though I thought I wouldn't hear from him again, I got a call from him yesterday. I'm afraid he'll show up. My son knows part of the truth, but if he finds out his father was our mother's murderer, he'll suffer, and that's something I won't forgive myself for. Moreover, I'm terrified that he'll take him away from me.
Max: (Observing me with a cold expression and fixed gaze) Don't worry about anything. I would never allow anyone to harm him.
Vicky: Thank you. Yesterday, your dad and Domenico overheard my call, so I told them everything, and they offered to help me. Domenico is already investigating.
Max: I can see that you get along well with Domenico. (He said, looking annoyed.)
Vicky: Yes, he's a good person, although he's not my type.
Max: Can I know what your type is?
Vicky: Hahaha, come on, let's go, we're almost in the kitchen. (I left him with the answer on the tip of his tongue. If only he knew that he's my type!)
Max and Vicky: Good morning!
We greeted everyone as we entered, and breakfast was served. Today seemed to be the day to ask Vicky everything 🙄
Doña Carlotta: Daughter, why does Matheo always sleep with you?
Vicky: Well, since he was born, he struggled to survive. He was born premature, and the first 72 hours were critical for him. He spent a week in the hospital, during the day he was in an incubator, and at night he slept on my chest. At first, I was terrified of falling asleep and hurting him, but I got used to it, and he did too. Sleeping on my chest, feeling my breath, helped him overcome all the obstacles. My warmth kept him alive during the hardest months. That's how it's been until last night - it was the first time Matheo didn't sleep with me.
Max: Now I understand why last night, after his dreams and sleep talking, he slept on top of me.
Vicky: Hahaha, I told you Matheo has trouble sleeping.
Max: Well, it didn't bother me, to be honest.
Everyone looked at Max strangely, as if he had confessed an unspeakable sin.
Vicky: By the way, it's strange that Matheo never sleeps in late. I'll go look for him. Excuse me, but I'm leaving!
Everyone: Granted.
