Episode 8

I had been talking to Mr. Pierini for about half an hour. My son stayed in the background, but since I know him well, I noticed that I was nervous, so he couldn't resist asking.

Teo: Mom, is something wrong?

Vicky: (Mr. Maximo turned to look at the child) No, son, nothing is wrong. (I proceeded to answer)

Teo: Why does Mr. say he will take you with him?

Vicky: Well, son, because Mr. is a father, just like I am a mother, and when something happens to our children, we go crazy and don't think about the consequences, sometimes saying or doing crazy things. (I replied to my son, looking closely at Mr. Maximo)

Teo: What's wrong with Mr.'s son, Mommy?

(I was about to answer, but Mr. Maximo quickly interrupted me)

Mr. Maximo: (This kid is undoubtedly smart. Before the doctor answered, I stepped in) Well, young man, let me introduce myself. I am Maximo Pierini, and just as your mom just said, my son is unable to walk due to an accident, and his mother is the only one who can help me.

Teo: Nice to meet you, sir. My name is Matheo Ignacio Santiago Fisher. Why don't you bring him here? We have the best equipment.

(Wow, my child's response caught me off guard. I didn't even answer that way. It seems that Matheo is not easily intimidated.)

Mr. Maximo: (This child is quite mature for his age. He speaks with determination even when introducing himself.) Well, because he doesn't want to. He got tired of being attended to by many people without seeing any results.

Teo: Where is he then?

Mr. Maximo: In Italy.

Teo: Very far.

(Teo turned to look at me and proceeded to speak)

Teo: Mommy, if I were the one in Mr.'s son's situation, what would you do?

Vicky: I think I would be desperate and do everything possible to help you, my love.

Teo: Then help Mr.'s son. Aunt Valentina can take care of me here, and your patients can be attended to by other specialists. Besides, you can keep an eye on the rehabilitation center from Italy without abandoning it.

(Without a doubt, my child would be the best as the president of a company. He knows how to convince and delegate like no other. Mr. Pierini waited for my decision, so I proceeded to give him my conditions)

Vicky: Very well, Mr. Pierini, I will go to Italy with you, but under my conditions.

Mr. Maximo: I'm listening, Miss Victoria.

Vicky: First of all, call me Victoria or Vicky, whichever you prefer. The first condition is that Matheo comes with me. I have never been separated from him, and I won't leave him behind. The second condition is that I can't travel tomorrow; in that case, I will travel on the weekend. My son has a championship, and I can't allow him to miss it. Besides, I need to make sure everything is organized here so that everything runs smoothly while I'm away. Thirdly, I will be visiting at least twice a month to make sure everything here is functioning perfectly. As you can see, I can't abandon my business. Fourthly, I need the complete medical history, exams, absolutely everything about your son. This way, I can prepare all the necessary materials to treat him there. And finally, I will provide you with a list of everything necessary for his treatment there, so you'll have to set up a rehabilitation space at your house.

Mr. Maximo: (Undoubtedly, this child has won my heart. The way he convinced his mom was very helpful to me. I wish he were my grandson, but his way of communicating, the confidence with which he expresses himself, and the firmness with which he looks at me have already won me over.) Very well, Victoria. By the way, you can call me Maximo or Don Maximo, whichever you prefer. I accept your conditions. On Saturday, I will send my private plane and my trusted escort to pick you up. I assure you that I will know how to reward you.

Vicky: Please don't bother about the money, sir. I'm doing this because it's my duty, and if helping your son is within my power, I'll do it with pleasure.

Mr. Maximo: With that said, I will take my leave. Doctor, young man, thank you for your time. See you soon.

(Mr. Maximo left. Matheo and I remained in the office. Matheo went back to doing his homework, but I couldn't resist asking)

Vicky: My love, what was that all about?

Teo: What do you mean, Mommy?

Vicky: Well, convince me to travel to Italy. Don't you think that man is dangerous?

Teo: Honestly, Mom, he doesn't seem dangerous to me. On the contrary, I liked him and I really get along with him.

Vicky: Son, but I've never seen you have such confidence in someone before, considering how reserved you usually are.

Teo: Like I said, Mom, I liked him.

Vicky: Did you know that before you came, he threatened me, saying that if I didn't go along with his plans, he would kidnap me?

Teo: Well, Mom, maybe that was just a strategy to convince you. Like you said earlier, you would do anything for me, and he's doing the same for his son.

(Matheo is my confidant, he is very mature for his age, and he's right. Well, the afternoon went by great and for the rest of the time, I received a folder with the complete medical history of Young Maximiliano Pierini, that's his name, and he's 25 years old, 1.85 meters tall, weighing 80 kg. An assassination attempt injured him, one of the bullets hitting his spine. Based on the latest X-rays, I see that he has an unhealed fracture, which is undoubtedly the primary reason for his lack of mobility. My first step will be treating that injury, and since it's a difficult area to heal, I might need some extra help. When I was in Venezuela, I studied a snake in the Andean region that they use to treat these types of injuries because it accelerates the bone healing process. Here in Spain, it has proven to be very helpful in extreme cases, so I will bring it and use it as part of this young man's rehabilitation treatment.)

The week went by, and my son always makes me proud. He became the chess champion. My boy achieves whatever he sets his mind to.

Vicky: Matheo, come on, they're almost here to pick us up!

Teo: I'm coming, Mom, I'm eating.

(God, this kid never stops eating.)

Vicky: Alright, I'm leaving you in charge of the Rehabilitation Center. Please don't hesitate to call me in case of any eventuality, okay?

Valentina: Don't worry, everything will be fine here.

(The sound of a honk signaled their arrival for us)

Vicky: Well, Valentina, take care. I'll call you as soon as we're at Don Maximo's house. Wish us luck, as I've heard the young man has a difficult personality.

Valentina: Hahaha, well then he'll get a taste of his own medicine, because you're no different.

We both laughed, and truth be told, my personality is quite difficult.

Vicky: Alright, Matheo, let's go.

Carlos: Good afternoon, Miss Victoria. My name is Carlos. Don Maximo asked me to bring you to Italy and told me to assist you and the child in any way possible.

Vicky: Thank you, Carlos. It's a pleasure to meet you.

We arrived at the airport, where a beautiful plane awaited us, ready to take us directly to Italy. From what I know, the Pierini family resides in Sicily, so we'll be there for a while. It all depends on Mr. Max's determination.
