ISABELLA'S POV
I woke up to find Leo's heavy arm draped over my waist. He was sleeping peacefully, his face relaxed. I glanced at the clock and saw it was 2 pm. I carefully removed his hand and got out of bed, trying not to disturb him.
As I went to the bathroom, I couldn't help but notice how peaceful Leo looked while sleeping. It was hard to believe that this was the same man who had hurt me so badly.
After washing my hands, I returned to the room and sat on the sofa, turning on the TV. My stomach growled, reminding me that I was hungry. I felt much better after taking the pills, but I was scared to wake Leo up.
I decided to slip outside and find a waiter to order lunch. Luckily, I found one just outside the room. "Mr. Smith wants food sent to his room," I said, and the waiter nodded.
As I returned to the room, Leo was awake, his eyes narrowed. "Where were you?" he asked gruffly.
I tried to sound nonchalant. "I was hungry, so I went to order lunch."
Leo's expression turned menacing. "I hope you didn't cause any trouble. If you did, I'll kill you."
His evil smirk made my blood run cold. I mumbled under my breath, "What an evil..." but caught myself before he heard me.
Leo's eyes snapped towards me. "What did you say?" he asked, his voice low and threatening.
I quickly covered. "Nothing."
Leo got up and went to the bathroom to take a shower. By the time he was done, the food had arrived. I asked, "Can I dish up for you?"
Leo declined. "No, eat. I have a dinner meeting, and I don't want to ruin my appetite."
As he dressed, I called out to him. "Leo."
He gave me a weird look. "What?"
I hesitated, unsure if I should ask him what was on my mind. But I took a deep breath and continued. "Please help me with something."
Leo's eyes gleaned with amusement as he laughed, the sound sending shivers down my spine. "You seem to amaze me," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
He walked towards me, his movements fluid and menacing. "What do you want?" he asked, his eyes narrowing.
I swallowed hard, trying to find the courage to ask him. "Leo, please help me get my father's businesses back," I stammered, my voice trembling with fear.
Leo raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Why would I do that?" he asked, his voice laced with disdain as he sat down next to me.
I took a deep breath, trying to explain. "The truth is, you were supposed to marry my cousin to help my uncle with the business. It was struggling, and the marriage was meant to secure an investment. But now that we're married, everything you own is mine, and everything I own is yours, according to the community of property law."
Leo's eyes flashed with anger, and he grabbed me roughly, causing pain to shoot through my bruised body. I winced, trying to pull away, but he held me firm, his grip like a vice.
Leo's grip on me tightened, and he shook me, causing me to groan in pain. "You don't listen, do you? Don't you remember my rules? My stuff belongs to me, not you."
I pleaded with him to stop, and he finally released me. "Speak, I'm listening," he said, his eyes narrowing.
I took a deep breath and continued. "Since we're married, there's no need to invest money in my uncle's business. You can just go there and take over as CEO. It's your company now."
Leo's face lit up with a smile. "You're smart," he said, his voice dripping with approval.
I seized the opportunity to ask for his help. "So, will you help me?"
Leo nodded. "I'll see what I can do when I get back. By the way, I'm going to Kalunda for a month. Stay at the hotel until your bruises heal, then go home. I'll see you next month."
He grabbed his suitcase and left, leaving me stunned. How could he leave his wife and go to the city of love alone? Kalunda was a romantic getaway in Azuraea, famous for its Bridge of Love, where couples strengthened their bonds. It was a beautiful place with oceans and plenty of activities.
I remembered my 10th birthday, when my parents took me to Kalunda. It was our last vacation together, and I cherished the memories. I wished I could go back there, but Leo had left me behind.
Please remember this novel 's country is fictional,it doesn't exist so it means the cities are also fictional and don't exist.
