Why Me

ISABELLA'S POV

It was already dark outside when I woke up to an empty bed, my body aching all over. I tried to stand, but the pain was too much. My face was swollen, and I could feel the bruises from this afternoon.

I pushed myself to the bathroom, where I collapsed onto the toilet seat, sobbing uncontrollably. I missed my parents terribly, and the guilt was overwhelming. If only I hadn't asked them to buy me ice cream that day, they would still be alive.

I thought about my childhood dreams, about becoming a doctor and living a happy, carefree life. But now, I was nothing more than a punching bag for the ruthless billionaire, Leo.

I heard the door open, and Cassandra's voice cut through my sorrow. "Hey, ugly girl, where are you?" she sneered.

She opened the bathroom door, tossing a bag of clothes at me. "My brother sent me to bring you clothes. What's wrong with you? Why are you sitting on the toilet?"

I took a quick shower to wash off my blood and after I slowly got dressed, wincing in pain as I moved. Cassandra was impatient, tapping her foot outside the bathroom door. "Hurry up, I don't have all day. You may look like a granny, but you're not one, so walk fast."

I followed her, trying to keep up with her rapid pace. The pain between my legs was unbearable, and I struggled to walk. As we passed through the lobby, I heard the whispers and gasps. People were staring at me, pointing at my bruised face and red eyes.

Cassandra's Porsche was waiting outside, and I slid into the passenger seat, grateful for the silence. But Cassandra's rudeness was palpable, and she drove recklessly, speeding through the streets.

We arrived at the Smith mansion in record time, and Cassandra turned to me, her expression cold. "You can get out of my car."

I opened the door, wincing as I stepped out onto the pavement. Cassandra sped off, leaving me standing alone in front of the mansion, feeling broken and defeated. Here's

As I entered the house, the Smith family was already seated at the dinner table. I met Leo's menacing gaze, and my heart sank. I slowly made my way towards the stairs, trying to escape the tension.

"Hey, Isabella, come and eat," Grandma Smith called out.

I forced a weak smile. "No, Grandma, I'm full. I ate at the hotel. I'll just go to bed."

I didn't want to draw attention to myself, especially with Leo's father present. If he saw my bruises, he would likely disown Leo, and that would ruin my chances of getting my father's business back.

I trudged upstairs, feeling defeated, and threw myself onto the bed. I dozed off, exhausted from the day's events.

But my rest was short-lived. Suddenly, cold water was poured over me, and I jolted awake, pain shooting through my body.

Leo's deep voice sent shivers down my spine. "What did I tell you about my stuff? Didn't I tell you not to touch my things? So why are you sleeping on my bed?"

I trembled with fear, sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm sorry, I'll go to sleep in the guest bedroom."

Leo's grip on my hand was like a vice. "Who told you to sleep in the guest bedroom? Do you want my father to disown me?"

I was terrified. "Where should I sleep?" I stammered.

Leo's response was heartless. "On the balcony."

"But, Leo, it's outside. What if it gets cold or rains?" I pleaded, sobbing harder.

He didn't care. "I don't care. Take this blanket and get out."

He threw me out of the room, and I collapsed onto the cold, hard floor of the balcony, wrapped in a thin blanket. I was getting colder by the minute, but I had no choice. I forced myself to sleep, tears streaming down my face.

The morning sun warmed my face, and I woke up, stiff from a night on the cold balcony floor. I opened the door and slipped inside, seeking refuge in the warmth of the bedroom. A hot shower was just what I needed to ease my aching body.

As I stepped out of the bathroom, I met Leo's gaze. "Today, you'll be at the hotel with me," he said, his voice firm. "I don't want my family to see you like that, so get dressed quickly. We need to leave before they wake up."

I hastily put on a warm tracksuit and slippers, tying my hair into a bun. Leo, already dressed in his suit, looked handsome and imposing, his blue eyes sparkling in the morning light. I could see why people doubted he was my husband.

We drove to the hotel in silence, the journey short and uneventful. Once we arrived, I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted. My body ached, and I could feel a cold coming on.

I slept fitfully until a waiter arrived with food and painkillers. I forced myself to eat, knowing I needed to take the pills to alleviate my pain. The food tasted bland, but I managed to swallow it down. After taking the pills, I drifted off to sleep once more.
