Episode 8

I passed the lock to my bedroom door and entered the bathroom. While I was taking a shower, I had thought a lot. I'm leaving right now.

I got out of the shower and put on sportswear.

After getting dressed, I grabbed a suitcase from my closet, threw in all the clothes and shoes I could, grabbed another, smaller bag, and put in my jewelry, perfumes, and skin and hair products.

And lastly, I opened my safe, grabbed a small backpack, and put in the cash I had there and my mother's jewelry. I took out my passport and all my papers.

Knock, knock...

"Who is it?"

"It's me, my dear. I brought you dinner."

"One moment, Nana."

I quickly put everything under the bed and acted normal. I opened the door, and my Nana came in with a tray of food.

"I brought you dinner, my dear. After what happened earlier, I don't think you want to eat with those people. Why are you dressed like that? Are you going out?"

The hours passed very quickly. It was already 11:00, and everything in the house was dark and silent, which meant that no one was awake.

As I was about to pull everything out from under the bed, I heard my phone.

Ring, ring, ring...

It's Tania. I quickly answered the call.

"Tania, what's wrong?" I hear Tania crying, and I get worried.

"Alice, I just left home. I'm in a park alone. Help me. I don't want to go back to that house."

"Tell me where you are, and I'll be there."

Tania gives me the address. I grab my things and leave the room, trying not to make any noise. I'm lighting the way with my cell phone flashlight so I don't trip over anything. I leave the house and run to the road.

I hail a taxi to go to where Tania is. My life isn't as miserable as Tania's has been these past few years.

I arrive at the park where Tania is, and she hugs me. I hug her back and ask her what happened. She asks me the same thing when she sees my luggage.

I told her what happened, and Tania couldn't believe it.

"And what happened to you that made you decide this?" I was already imagining what happened since she had a bruise on her arm and a handprint on her cheek.

"It was my stepfather. Today, he came home drunk as usual, but he didn't come with the intention of beating my mother to death. He came in and entered my room. I was scared because he had never come into my room before. If he wanted to hit me, he would take me to the living room, but not this time. He came into my room and locked the door. He wanted to rape me, Alice. He started touching me. I somehow managed to grab a glass ball that was on my nightstand and hit him in the head. I don't know if he's dead or not, but I managed to grab some clothes and climbed out the window."

"Oh, Tania, why didn't you call the police?"

"How, Alice? How? That damn man and my mother do everything they can to make the police believe I'm crazy. I've done it before, and no one helps me. That's why I came to you."

"Well, Tania, listen to me. We're not going to another country far away right now. I have enough money for us to live well for a few months while I work and we continue studying. Okay?"

"Did you bring your passport?"

"Luckily, I always go out with my passport."

"Good, let's take a taxi."

After calming Tania down, who was a sea of tears, we got into a taxi.
