It had been 5 years since I left Russia. A month after returning to New York, Amelia brought me information about Alice; she had apparently contacted her mother's family.
When we began searching for Alice, I learned that her mother was the daughter of one of the most influential families in Russia. It appeared that Alice's mother had hidden her identity from her husband because when I asked if his wife had any family, he told me no, that his wife was an orphan.
So I decided not to say anything. After finding that out, I told Amelia to keep an eye on that family.
That’s how I found out Alice moved in with her family, so I decided to leave her alone; the only thing that mattered to me was finding her, and I had done that. I decided to wait some time before meeting her.
I was reviewing some documents when I received a call from Alex.
“Nicolas, I have very good news for you.”
“I hope it’s good news and not nonsense; I'm very busy, so just speak.”
“Well, what I'm going to tell you will make you stop what you’re doing and want to come here as quickly as possible.”
“Alex, just say it already, or I will hang up.”
“Oh brother, you’re so grumpy. It’s about your wife.”
“What’s wrong with my wife?”
“Well, your wife applied for the assistant job. I wanted to tell you this to see if you wanted to interview her yourself.”
“I’ll leave right now; when is the interview?”
“Haha, I knew you'd want to come immediately; the interview is tomorrow.”
“Okay, I’ll arrive tonight.”
I ended the call with Alex and hurried to have the private jet prepared. I left the company with my sister Madison in charge; she and Nikky had come to live in New York for a while.
They started working at the company. I rushed out of the office and within half an hour, I was on the private jet, anxious to arrive in Russia.
It was 10 PM when I landed in Russia, and after half an hour, I arrived at the mansion where my grandmother and Alex were waiting for me in the living room.
I greeted my grandmother and chatted with them for a while. After that, I went to my room, took a shower; I was exhausted and only wanted to lie down and sleep.
I exited the bathroom, put on a pair of pajamas, and lay down on the bed. I spent some time sending and answering emails, and after a while, I shut down the laptop and fell asleep.
I woke up at 7 AM, went into the bathroom, took a shower, got dressed, and left my room. I saw my grandmother in the dining room with Alex, so I stayed to have breakfast with them. After finishing breakfast, Alex and I headed to the company.
We left my grandmother with the nurses, and after a while, we reached the office.
“Looks like your sister-in-law has you crazy; look how anxious you are,” Alex said, teasingly.
I ignored my brother's stupid comment, and we entered; Alex went to his office, and I went to mine, waiting for Alice.
After an hour, the receptionist informed me that Alice had arrived at the company; my brother sent his secretary to bring her to my office.
After a while, someone knocked on my door, and I told them to come in.
“Mr. Lobo, this is the girl who came for the assistant position.”
As soon as she entered, my eyes fell on Alice; she was very beautiful and had changed a lot since the last time I saw her; now she was a full-fledged woman and looked more mature.
“Alright, you may leave now.”
“Of course, sir, with your permission.”
The girl left, and only Alice and I remained in the office. She couldn’t stop looking at me, her gaze filled with surprise.
“Are you just going to stand there staring at me?” I asked, and I saw her blush.
