"Father, please don't get upset, it's for your health," Alexander pleaded.
"Promise me you won't marry that woman!" Even though the leader was struggling to breathe, his tone conveyed his displeasure.
Alexander lowers his gaze.
"Promise me that Valentina will be your only wife, the only Mrs. Williams of the fifth generation."
"Father... I promise," Alexander muttered under his breath, and the leader sighed wearily.
"I am old, and death is already breathing down my neck," Mr. Williams took a deep breath. "Valentina is the ideal choice. I, too, was forced to marry your mother, and even though I mistreated her, I love her and cannot live without that woman. Because when you are wise, you make the best decisions, and I..."
"We can discuss this later, father," Alexander advised, as Mr. Williams was struggling to speak.
"Listen... I chose her for you because I am sure she is the ideal woman. Like my dear father used to say, 'I chose her for you because she has a good heart,' and he was right. If your mother didn't have a good heart, she would have left me when I failed as a husband. It took me a lot of effort to win her heart back, but here we are. She is my treasure. Women on the streets provide pleasure, Alexander, but those at home give love, care, attention, unconditional love, and good pleasure if a man does it right. Don't be foolish, son. Don't lose that girl. Look at how beautiful she is. I can assure you that the woman you have an affair with is only interested in personal gain."
"Father, Lore is the woman I wanted to marry, we just became distant, but..."
"But nothing. Your wife is Valentina Williams. I don't accept any other woman in this family. Don't tarnish Valentina's name. Now I understand her behavior towards you. You shouldn't think that I didn't notice the day we had lunch at your house. Her displeasure and pain were evident. I am old, but an old man with experience, and these gray hairs are natural. Don't fret, father; I will do what is right, just give me some time."
"Time is what we don't have. It's all or nothing," the leader said.
Alexander remained silent, pondering his father's words.
"Go, Alexander," the leader ordered.
Alexander sighed and glanced at his father one last time before leaving. He felt guilty.
"Who sent those damn photos?" Alexander mentally questioned himself.
As he reached the waiting room, he could see his mother's distress.
"How is your father, son?" Mrs. Williams approached Alexander.
"He's fine, he just needs rest. You can go in with him," Alexander informed her without taking his eyes off Valentina.
Mrs. Williams left, leaving them alone.
Taking determined steps, Alexander approached his wife. "Are you happy?" he asked with resentment.
"What are you talking about?" Valentina looked at him with confusion.
"You sent pictures to my father showing me with Lore and proposing marriage!"
"You're crazy!" Valentina frowned.
"It's your damn fault that my father is lying on that hospital bed! He almost died! Is that how much you respect him?"
"I would never do such a thing! How can you even think it was me?" Valentina felt tears welling up due to helplessness.
"It's because of your damn revenge! You can't handle what happened. You almost killed my father!"
Valentina slapped him hard.
Alexander forcefully grabbed her arm, but she managed to break free and push him away.
"You're an idiot! A hypocrite! I don't have the cold-bloodedness like you to do something that would end the life of the only man who truly loves me, the one who lent me a helping hand when I needed it the most. I'm not cruel enough to hurt him. Everything that's happening is because of your damn poor decisions, so you have no right to blame anyone when it's all your damn fault."
Valentina was highly agitated. She walked towards Mr. Williams' room feeling a heavy pain in her heart.
Entering the room cautiously, gathering her strength, she witnessed the elderly couple embracing. Valentina couldn't bear it; she had to leave the room. She felt extremely vulnerable. At least the leader was stable; she would come back later.
When she returns to the waiting room, Alexander is not there, which she mentally appreciates. As she leaves the clinic, Alexander is talking to Lore.
She feels anger, but does not want to argue. She stands at the edge of the road, impatiently waiting for a taxi while tears roll down her cheeks.
"I'm sure it was you," Lore approaches, but Valentina ignores her.
"Enough, Lore, go home!"
"No, Alexander, I'm tired of this fat woman. She's manipulating everyone, even you, with the divorce. Why don't you accept it? Alexander loves me! Stop tormenting his life, he wants to be with me. Stop bothering us, sign the divorce and leave our lives."
Valentina is furious, especially because her husband doesn't defend her.
Valentina grabs Lore by the hair, pulling her closer. "Look, you damn whore! If I don't give Alexander the divorce, it's my damn problem! And I'm sure it was you who sent those photos because you can't wait for him not to sign the divorce papers, hoping that Alexander won't want to divorce me anymore."
"Let go of me, you idiot!"
"And I highly doubt that he doesn't want to be with me because just a few minutes ago, while we were having intense sex, he told me he liked it. So go to hell," Valentina pushes her away and walks towards the road upon seeing a taxi.
