Episode 10

Sara: As days unfold without Adam, the house feels lighter, and having earned the staff's friendship has eased my living.

Katy: Good morning Sara, coffee?

Sara: Good morning Katy, yes, please.

Katy, Josiane, and I together spell catastrophe. Katy's outlandish, Josiane's reckless, and I get swept up by both.

Katy: Grab your coffee and rise from that enormous behind, we're venturing out today!

Sara: Have you lost it, Katy? Adam returns today!

Katy: Not beyond the gates, only stepping out of the house. You need to breathe some fresh air, get to know the surroundings.

Josiane: I agree, it's crucial you imprint this splendid property in that amazing mind of yours, in case of emergencies.

Sara: Alright. Is there a garden here?

Katy: Nope.

Sara: A pond?

Katy: You're living with a beast, remember? Just grass and unpredictable dogs let loose at night.

Sara bursts into laughter, I'm pleased to see her cheerful once more after such a gloomy week, her mood a mystery to all but her father's presence brought her smiles.

Sara: I could start a vegetable patch, or even a garden, just to stay occupied.

Josiane: Adam's sourness would wilt any flowers.

Sara: You two are on a roll today.

Katy: Simply unwinding, a week of tranquility was splendid.

Sara: Finishing my coffee, I head out with the girls, the sun’s caress on my skin is delightful. I wander barefoot on the grass, running just to taste freedom.

Adam: Returning early, I stumble upon Sara strolling with Josiane and Katy across the land. Sara releases Josiane's arm, kicks off her shoes, and smiles serene upon the grass. Suddenly, she spins with arms wide, a carefree move, yet any misstep could send her tumbling. She laughs heartily. I enter the house to find my mother in the living room with my father.

Thank you, your assistance is no longer required.

Lara: Son, back so soon? We shall attend the event together.

Adam: My mother moves to embrace me, I sidestep, unsure of my feelings at this juncture.

Has Sara disclosed what transpired?

Lara: Alas, she hasn’t confided in me, but I concur that some distress befell her. Her week started poorly, though she seems brighter now.

Adam: Had she ever left the premises before?

Lara: No, but Katy and Josiane persuaded her to explore externally today, her first foray.

Adam maintains silence and departs to change. I step out to inform Sara of his return, watching her joy dissolve.

Sara: Thanks for notifying me, Lara.

The girls enter as I request a moment to myself. Soon Josiane returns for me. I ascend for a bath, entering the bedroom permeated with Adam’s scent, I utter not a word and act naturally, as if oblivious to his presence. I learn details of people, learning how to detect their presence, but I guard this secret like a personal advantage.

Adam: Sara enters the room and her slow pace to the closet, feeling the fabrics before selecting attire and intimates, doesn't escape me. I catch her mouthing words silently before she emerges from the bathroom dressed. Sara combs her hair, applies cream, fragrance, and lip hydrator methodically. Finishing, she exits, likely unaware of my observation.

Sara: Perhaps Adam is sleeping. Time drifts by and people arrive to prepare me for the function. I re-enter the bedroom, Adam indifferent to the hairdresser and makeup artist. Their evasive touches perturb me slightly.

Please, let me know before you start.

Morgan: Dearest, I am applying makeup; must I provide live commentary?

Sara: Yes, if you would.

Morgan: That makes my work difficult.

Sara: Morgan and Tessa leave abruptly, perhaps vexed by me. As I plan to rise, they return with unexpected kindness, asking preferences, catering to desires, narrating their actions minutely. After finishing, Josiane walks in, Adam's presence now uncertain amidst the dryer’s noise.

Josiane: You look marvelous, Sara.

Morgan and Tessa have departed, Adam changes elsewhere, and I assist Sara in dressing.

Sara: This event intimidates me immensely.

Josiane: Likewise, the world can be harsh. But Lara will accompany you, providing protection.

Sara: I'll not stray from her side.

Josiane: My goodness!

Sara: What is it?

Josiane: You're a vision of temptation, utterly stunning, Sara.

Sara: You gave me a fright, Josi.

Josiane details my appearance, excitement wells up, shoes are donned, and we make our descent.

Adam: Sara descends a full ten minutes ahead of schedule, I can't help but stare.

Mother, you were instructed to dress her suitably; there's no time for outfit changes now.

Josiane: Noticing Sara's fading smile, I whisper assurances of Adam's jealousy; she's simply too striking.

Lara: She embodies the event's elegance, rivaling the beauty of any lady there. Drop the idle talk, lest we be late.

And Sara, you look utterly breathtaking.

Sara: I respond with a timid smile in Lara's direction, she takes my arm, and we proceed to the limo. Lara's narration of our luxurious transport fills me with anticipation, having never experienced it prior.

Adam: I'll disembark first, wait for the door to open for you. Photographers will swarm, we must emanate a united front.

Sara: Understood.

The car halts, I await Adam's hand, and as we descend, his guidance pauses us for photographs. Ascending steps, his tone sharply corrects my careful ascent due to a daring dress slit.

Sara: I remain silent despite his harsh words, his shocked expression tells I might have overstepped.
