Sara: A nurse notifies me that Adam has left, which brings me immense relief. I manage to eat a little and I was very hungry. I become sick in the middle of the night, trying to call for help by ringing the bell, but I don't make it in time and throw up on the floor. I even soil myself and feel terribly embarrassed, but the nurses are very kind to me. After a difficult night, I am woken up for breakfast.
Dr. Guilherme: Good morning Sara. How are you feeling?
Sara: Good morning Dr. Guilherme. Much better, thank you.
Dr. Guilherme: I'm going to examine you now, okay?
I examine Sara, ask a few questions, and order some blood tests. I’ve been informed that her husband left yesterday and she had a rough night alone. We discuss domestic violence again, but she denies it.
Sara: Is everything all right?
Dr. Guilherme: Yes, I've ordered some blood tests, and you will be discharged tomorrow morning.
Sara: After explaining my rib fracture, Dr. Guilherme leaves and I spend the day alone, falling asleep a few times—the medication is strong. I have dinner and sleep worried about being discharged in the morning, uncertain of how I'll leave. I wake up early, a nurse assists me with a bath, and I put on my pajamas again since I don't have any other clothes. I have breakfast, and then Adam arrives; I recognize his scent and stay silent.
Adam: Brought you some clothes.
Sara: Good morning Adam, thank you.
Adam hands me the clothes. It’s one of my dresses.
Would you mind stepping out so I can change?
Adam: I step out and wait outside while the nurses gaze at me with disapproval. Sara signals she's changed, and an orderly comes to take her to the hospital exit. I notify the driver to wait for us at the entrance. To avoid potential media leaks, I carry her in my arms and place her in the car. Sara is startled but remains silent. We reach the property and I ask one of my security guards to help her to my room.
Sara: I enter and Josiane assists me.
I’m okay, Josi.
Josiane: I don’t believe you anymore. You almost died, Sara.
Sara: Don't exaggerate.
Josiane: Mr. Adam allowed me to be your companion.
Sara: It's not necessary, Josi.
Josiane: Of course it is, I’ll get paid more and it will be a pleasure to spend my days with you. Once you're better, I’ll help you redecorate this whole house. You’ll have a map of it in your head and won’t get hurt again.
Sara: Thank you, Josi. It will be good to have a friend in the ogre’s dungeon!
We laugh and chat for a bit. I rest for almost two weeks; Adam only slept here but didn’t speak to me, each staying at one end of the bed. The driver, along with Josiane, take me to get my stitches out, and I begin the challenge of getting to know the place where I'll live for a year, and so thirty days pass. The house is much larger than mine, my father visited many times, but Lize is not allowed in. I secretly call her every day using Josiane's phone; we cry over missed each other and decide to try talking to Adam. I go to his office and knock on the door, the only place I haven't entered, he bids me enter, and I cautiously approach.
Adam: Take two steps to the right; there's a coffee table in front of you. What do you want?
Sara: Good morning Adam. Am I a prisoner?
Adam: What?
Sara: I want to know if I'm a prisoner here or if I can leave.
Adam: Where would you go if you can’t even see?
Sara: That was such a prejudiced thing to say, Adam.
Adam: You’re not permitted to leave alone.
Sara: So, I am a prisoner!
Adam: Call it what you want. I do not want you causing trouble beyond these gates.
Sara: If you hate me so much, why not just give me a divorce?
Adam: Is that what you want?
Sara: It's what I want most, Adam.
Adam: Great! Then it’s exactly what you won’t get.
Sara: I turn to leave in silence.
Adam: We have an important event on Saturday. A team will come to get you ready; we will leave at 7:00 PM.
Sara: Why take me if I can’t even see?
I say jokingly.
Adam: I listen to Sara and can’t believe her audacity. I start to pay close attention to her; she never complains, is well adapted to the house and routines. I had thought all that calm was just an act, but now, I really don’t know. She leaves the office with slow steps and avoids the table I pointed out. As she passes through the door, she turns and I notice her lips moving without sound before she closes the door.
Sara: As I'm passing through the living room, I feel large hands envelop me in a hug from behind, startling me with the heavy touch.
Let go of me!
Alan: Such a warm little body, kitten.
Sara: Alan, let go, or I’ll scream!
I recognize Alan's voice as his hands slide to my breasts, squeezing them while he whispers in my ear.
Alan: I like risky kittens, and the scandalous ones get double my attention in bed!
Sara: After Alan leaves, I rush to my room as fast as I can, enter, and lock the door while shaking. I felt that repulsive man’s fully hard member press against my back as he forcefully grasped my breasts and whispered in my ear. I enter the closet, sit on the floor in the corner of the bottom, and stay quiet, hidden, and utterly desperate, afraid he'll come back and do something worse.
Adam: After Alan plans a pool party here on Sunday and leaves, I go upstairs to change and find the bedroom door locked. I open it with a spare key and find Sara sitting in the corner of the closet, crying with her head down, hugging her knees. I crouch, looking for any injuries on her.
Sara, are you hurt?
Sara: I embrace Adam while crying, I'm scared and just want to feel safe. He wraps his arms around me, and I try to calm down.
Adam: With all I've put Sara through since meeting her, I've never seen her like this, so desperate. She's crying like a frightened child; her whole body shakes and she sobs, and even without understanding why, it makes me want to hold her.
What’s going on, Sara?
