A Straight Answer
Cameron
Some morning it is.
Cameron
People have been banging on my clinic door, all day demanding answers.
Cameron
The Bishop's orders are creating more problems.
Phoebe
You mean you weren't consulted before hand?
Cameron
Not at all. I found out about this the same way as everyone else.
Cameron
We'd been planning a careful evacuation of the town for days.
Cameron
The people here are in extreme danger of attacks from the infected.
Cameron
We've had numerous fatalities. You saw what they can do.
Cameron
But it sounds like the Bishop tried to take matters into his own hands.
Phoebe
*gestures towards the church doors*
Phoebe
We should go in. If anyone has answers, it's Nicolette.
Near the altar, Nicole is in a heated discussion with a stern man in ornate ceremonial robes.
Phoebe
(That's the Bishop, he doesn't look very happy.)
There voices grow clearer as we approach.
Nicolette
Please, at the very least, let us send word to the neighbouring villages.
Nicolette
We could desperately use their doctors. Cameron is stretched thin as it is.
Nicolette
And we're running out of medical supplies.
Bishop
I won't hear of it, Sister Nicolette!
Bishop
I have determined this is the best course of action.
Nicolette
The people are panicking!
Nicolette
We must explain the situation and schedule evacuation like we'd been planning.
Nicole catches sight of us and beckons us over.
Nicolette
Bishop, Please if you only knew what this sickness does-
Bishop
The doctor's reports are enough! I don't need to see its work firsthand.
As his eyes land on Quinn, his face turns an ugly shade of red.
Bishop
You! You're not allowed in here! You've been banned remember?
Quinn
*Bows theatrically before the Bishop*
Quinn
I'm a concerned citizen, Bishop. Nothing more!
Quinn
I won't cause any mischief today, I promise!
I watch her act, bemused.
Phoebe
(She's banned from the Church? What did she do?)
Cameron
*Steps forward, frowning*
Cameron
Locking the city gates without consulting me was foolish.
Bishop
It is the best course of action to keep my children safe.
Bishop
The Light will protect us so long as we stay here.
Cameron
Is that so? I wasn't aware you were a medical expert.
Cameron
This scourge warps it's victims beyond recognition.
Cameron
Now every citizen is in imminent danger with no means to escape.
Cameron
You've just doomed this town.
The Bishop splutters, face reddening further.
He points an indignant finger at Cameron.
Bishop
You call yourself a doctor?!
Bishop
If you had successfully contained this illness, we wouldn't be in predicament!
Bishop
Your incompetence will ruin the town!
I inhale sharply at the Bishop's harsh words.
Phoebe
(How can he say those awful things to Cameron?!)
Phoebe
(I won't stand for this. I have to defend her!)
Phoebe
*takes a deep breath, stepping forward*
Phoebe
Father, this is unlike anything we've encountered before .
Phoebe
It will take some time to track down the source of the plague, but in the meantime-
Bishop
Enough! I won't hear anymore!
He beckons two priests over.
Bishop
Escort these citizens outside at once!
Quinn
Don't bother, Phoebe. The red faced fool won't listen.
The two priests usher us towards the door.
I catch a glimpse of Nicole's apologetic eyes before the priests shut the door.
Quinn
That went about as well as i expected.
Quinn
I'm not surprised. It must work in the Bishop's favor, if no one can leave.
Phoebe
What do you mean by that?
Quinn
Hmm? Did I mean anything by that?I wonder.
Quinn
Does anything mean anything or nothing?
Phoebe
(Why is it so difficult to get a straight answer from her?!)
