Chapter 14

I was sitting with my mom and dad on the sofa, telling them everything and mostly expressing with my hands. They were so happy to see me after a long time and so I was. I asked where Lizzie was. They told me she had gone to some field trip to her school. I told them about the people there and my roommates, showing them what gifts I brought for them. We spent almost a day and it was nearly night now. I felt my body's need for rest so I just jumped onto my cozy bed and was soon sound asleep.

It was a mixture of joy and sadness to be back. But I had to go back for 4 months from now where my final papers were and after I would start my medical house job. I was no longer the old Cassie, who was sometimes rude, sometimes funny and lively, and sometimes I didn't even know what my heart wanted me to do. I was well aware of the beauties and cruel side of life. But one thing remained constant. I had been and was still not one of those people who were fake to the outside, neither I knew how to pretend in front of the people for my good. It was just the way I was.

I woke up late in the morning, got fresh and went down stairs as my tummy was roaring with hunger. I was eating my favorite French toast that my mom had made for me. I was missing Lizzie at the breakfast table. I remembered how we used to fight for the Apple jam when it was nearly finished. Or how she used to tease me by saying how messed up my hair gets when I'm outside too long, and stealing my hair brush! That meant war! Now they are the most beautiful memos.

Suddenly I remembered something. I looked up to mom and asked where Henry and Kevin were. They both glanced at each other for a moment then my father, forcing a smile, said to me:

" Henry is now living in John's house. He doesn't want to live with us. And about Kevin.." , he took a deep sigh.

"Kevin is just getting out of control. He did not even start drug dealing but also going to clubs and all the bad stuff. I am mostly away from home on account of my work and your mom is really getting sick just because of him. God just helps us get through this."

My mom grabbed my dad's hand lovingly and smiled as though she was saying in her expression that everything will get fine. I asked them about John. They told me he had bought some lands in here and was gone for looking at them. He would be back soon.

I finished up my breakfast and sketched out plans for my stay this week. I had to meet all my friends and teachers at school. I had to meet Henry and Kevin and John, but mostly John. I grabbed my gifts for people I bought and went out. I headed to my school first and there I met all my teachers. I went to my favorite teacher, Peter Byers, hoping to catch some good news about his wedding or something.

"Hello Sir Peter." I said with a huge smile on my face as he shifted his eyes to me from his book. He nearly jumped up from his resting couch in the staff room. He was still handsome or maybe got a little more. Young as always and attractive.

"Oh Bells, it's you! It's so nice to see you! You gave a good surprise."

" Yes Sir, I just wanted to meet all of my teachers and friends. It's been a long time since I met you all." He moved closer to me.

"You have grown beautiful Cassie."

He said not moving his eyes from me and stepping a little closer. I felt a little awkward and bounced back, changing the topic all of a sudden.

" So I brought a gift for you Sir. It's a watch. Do you like it?"

He grabbed it softly and looked at it with a smile. He opened his case and took it out.

"It's indeed a beautiful watch, Cassie. I will surely keep it close to me all the time."
