Clover's gem had reacted to the man's touch and now it was glowing brightly, even more than her watch. Kaya stared at it, trying to figure out why it was glowing so much.
"Not this time." Clover said after gathering all of his strength and hitting the man- no, the creature - across the head with his skateboard. As the creature shrieked, it let go of Clover's arm so the latter immediately grabbed Kaya's arm and pulled her out of the store. All the people walking around stared as the two of them ran. Kaya went with him willingly, still in a daze. What just happened?
"Listen here." Clover said when the two were far enough, holding her by the shoulders and shaking her roughly. "I don't know what that thing was and I'm scared out of my wits right now but I know that you have something to do with this. Who are you?"
Who are you? That was the question, Kaya herself couldn't answer. She was Kaya, yes. But she also wasn't. Now, she was the Guardian of The Seven Wonders, one who had no past, no present and no identity. Her mission wasn't only to find The Seven Stones, it was also to find herself.
"Your bracelet." She breathed and glanced at Clover's gem, which was starting to fade back to its grey color. "It isn't exactly... just a bracelet."
"...What do you mean?" he whispered, his arms falling from her shoulders and down to her arms. He had a look in his eyes, desperation. He wanted to know.
"That gem... it was passed down to you from your great, great grandfather, right?" She said slowly, Clover nodding, even though he was surprised that she knew. "The truth is... that gem is no ordinary gem. It's actually-" Kaya was cut off by screams.
The creature had escaped the pawn shop, scaring the civilians. Now it was standing on it's insect-like legs, tearing through the suit it once wore. It's long tentacles stabbed through anything in its path. It was walking, towards the two of them.
"Run."
Kaya whispered. Clover had already did. The creature roared as it crawled on buildings and stabbed through random people. Kaya and Clover ran, not really knowing where to go but they both knew that it was the only way to stay alive. Kaya was also frustrated by how Kiya was silent during the whole thing. She had no idea how to deal with this creature and it didn't help that she didn't have any superna–
Then, it hit her. Clover did. She just had to activate his gem.
Meanwhile, Clover was still trying to grasp the situation. He was currently being chased by a monster and was accompanied by a strange girl who knew about his ancestors. It was definitely creepy and weird but he didn't know what else was he supposed to do at the moment. He glanced at his bracelet, the gem fading in out and from time to time. He didn't know what it meant either, since it was the first time that it acted that way but he definitely knew that it was connected to the monster that was trying to kill him.
The truth is, that gem is no ordinary gem. He had realized something. The reason why the creature wanted his bracelet so badly. It was after the gem.
"Heads up." he said without even a slight warning before carrying Kaya like a sack and throwing her at a bunch of garbage cans, cushioning her landing.
"Clover!!!" Kaya screamed and sunk in the stack of garbage cans as the said boy started to skate away, the monster dangerously close to his tail.
He didn't know why but the first thing that came to his mind was to keep Kaya safe. So, he did. But what now? Thanks to his skateboard, he was faster but he had nowhere to go. The monster stabbed its tentacle on the ground, scratching his arm and nearly piercing his skateboard. Soon, more tentacles started piercing through randomly and he had to act like some kind of Formula One driver to dodge them. Not wanting to steer the monster towards more civilians, he headed to an alley, which was a big mistake.
A dead end.
Clover slid the skateboard, just in time to brake his run before he hit the brick wall. He had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, he was trapped. He gulped as the monster slowly came towards him and growled, drops of it's saliva falling onto the ground. It released one last tentacle and the boy was barely able to spread his legs as it pierced through its skateboard and broke it into two. As the tentacles wrapped around his neck and lifted him up, he could only think of one thing.
He was cornered, defenseless, like always. He started to choke as the tentacles tightened around his neck, cutting off his air supply. The monster grinned in pleasure as he wriggled desperately, to hopefully set himself free. He clawed at the slimy limbs, to no avail. He was running out of breath. Dangerously fast. As he shut his eyes, he wasn't exactly happy about the life that flashed before his eyes.
Another slap. Clover sometimes mistook it as a greeting from his mother, since not a single day would pass without him receiving one. She had gotten mad over something small. He had forgotten to take off his shoes before going to bed and of course, it was enough to anger his mother, to the point of hitting her own child.
"You're so stupid, Clove! How many times do I have to tell you?!"
Another slap and Clover cried.
"Don't you cry on me, mister."
And another. He cried harder.
"You're just like your father. Stupid, whiny, worthless, helpless. You were a mistake. All you are is another mouth to feed. I wish you were never born."
Clover had wished the same throughout his childhood. He lived it all with constant beatings from his mother, for both small and big reasons. He had wished the same throughout his childhood. He lived it all with constant beatings from his mother, for both small and big reasons. The situation worsened when his mother forced to quit school and now he was home all day, every day. It hurt him, both physically and emotionally but he didn't have any power to do anything. She was the adult. He was the child. He was powerless.
It was when Clover turned eighteen that he finally came to his senses. His mother would still beat him but now he was immune to it, his heart hardening to stone. He learned to toughen up and defend himself sometimes talking back, earning an even worse beating by doing so. One last slap woke him. He was tired of being the defenseless little boy, the victim. This time, he was in control.
"I'm in control." Clover said in one breath, which confused the monster because it was sure that he had died of suffocation. "I.. am in control."
Clover opened his eyes, which were now a bright red color, as he held the tentacles around his throat. The monster screamed as the tentacles sizzled under his touch and soon enough, it let go and he was on the ground. Clover stood up in confidence, the monster looking down at him in fear and raised a hand at it. All the emotions he felt towards his abusive mother and his missing father just made him snap but it had also unlocked a hidden power that resided deep inside him.
"I'm no longer the victim." he spat, his glare literally burning. "From now on, I am in control."
As his gem started glowing bright red, anger started to burn in his chest, just like the flames that shot out of his fingertips.
