For the second time today, Kaya woke up in a room full of white. This time though, she was in on a bed in a hospital room. She stared at her hands, seeing that they were now healed, she glanced at her wristwatch, which was slightly glowing purple. This made her realize that it wasn't a dream. She really was the Guardian of The Seven Wonders.
"I see that you're awake now."
Kaya jumped when she heard a voice a few feet away from her, sighing after she saw the doctor smiling at her.
"You've been asleep for a whole day. How are you feeling?"
"Fine, I guess..." She scratched her head, awkwardly. After all that she has seen and learned, she was definitely everything else but not fine.
"You were knocked out cold when you came here yesterday. Do you remember anything? Your name?" The doctor said as he dragged a chair, sat on it and bit his pen as he flipped open his clipboard. Kaya couldn't help but look at his face, especially since he looked way too pretty with his clear skin and plump lips.
"Yeah. My name's Kaya."
The doctor looked up at her, expecting to hear her surname.
"Just Kaya?"
"Just Kaya...."
The doctor stared at her for a solid minute and she couldn't read his expression at all. He, then nodded, before jotting down something on his clipboard. "I see.."
"T-The orphanage..." Kaya spoke, after having flashbacks of the burning orphanage, dead bodies and him - the bearer of the gem of Darkness - protecting her through it all. "How is it? My friend too, is he alright?"
The doctor locked his doe eyes on Kaya's and she, once again, failed to read his expression. There was something, though and she didn't know if it was pity or something else.
"Miss... Kaya, you are the only survivor of the fire in the orphanage. I'm sorry."
Hearing those words felt like a kick in the stomach. Kaya leaned on the bedframe and placed a hand on her forehead. All those people she used to see everyday, chattering, eating, having fun, were all dead because of her.
The Ignis was after her and she had survived, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. Then, she thought of the bearer of the gem of darkness. Where did he go? She wondered why he had just disappeared like thin air, nowhere to be seen once more. She wasn't even able to get his name. This frustrated her, not only because one of the bearers had slipped away from her but also because she never got the chance to thank him.
"Do you need some time alone, Miss Kaya?" The doctor asked, his chin resting at the back of his hand, after noticing how tense she was. Kaya nodded.
"Yes please..."
As soon as the doctor left the room, she kicked the sheets off of herself and headed towards the door. While she quietly locked it, she heard the conversation of the doctors outside.
"She said her name is Kaya but there is no profile of her in the orphanage."
Kaya immediately heard the voice of her doctor.
"You think she's faking it?"
"That's my guess. She wouldn't give me her surname too, if she has one."
"This isn't the last time something like this has happened."
"Is she a fugitive?"
"What should we do?"
"Quiet down. I say we call the police."
"Great, even my own kind are after me now." She grumbled as she tied the sheets in knots, hopefully making it long enough for herself to climb down the window. Kiya was right. As her journey to find the seven wonders started, she learned that she couldn't trust anyone, not even her handsome faced doctor. I guess looks really isn't all of it. This was her first lesson.
...*****...
"Earlier this morning, a strange sighting has been captured in the west waters."
The news report caught Kaya's attention so she peeked under her hat and glanced at the television screen. She shook her glass a little, the ice shaking inside before sipping some more of her juice. She glanced around herself, a natural instinct that she gained after running around for the past two weeks.
"A sea monster, that's what the locals called it. This unidentified creature has devastated dozens of fishermen after--"
The waitress of the diner switches the channel after one of the customers complained about it being too graphic for her children. Now she was staring at Dora skipping down a tunnel.
"It's getting worse." Kiya said in Kaya's head as Kaya tipped her hat downwards once again, to cover her face. She also had her silver hair tied in a bun, also covering it, since the incident in the hospital lead her to being on the police's watchlist.
"Obviously." Kaya said a bit too harshly, while putting on her face mask. She caught an old man staring at her, maybe because she looked like she was talking to herself and glared. "What?"
The man immediately looked away.
"It's not like you to be snappy." Kiya said with some sort of slur which made Kaya scoff.
"I'm just pissed off that I haven't found any of the wonders." She whispered as she dug her hands in her pockets for a change. These past few days, she feels like a beggar, since she jumped from place to place, not having the chance to get a stable job, thus the scarcity of money. She finally found some change and placed it on the counter. "All these people are dying and I can't do anything about it."
"Don't blame yourself." Kiya tried to console Kaya although her tone was flat.
"Running from the police is hard enough and now finding seven specific people in this big country?" Kaya sighed as she counted her change again, making sure that it was enough to pay for her juice. She honestly haven't had a good meal in a while and she was starving but she didn't have any money.
As she handed the waitress her payment, the waitress stared at her right in the face. Kaya stared back, returning the burning glare. Just behind her was a wanted poster of a Girl with silver hair. Kaya gulped, hoping that the waitress wouldn't recognize her.
After the waitress broke eye contact, she immediately exited the diner. Kaya glanced at her watch as she walked with big steps, hoping that it would at least glow. She wanted to find one of the wonders, especially because she couldn't afford to waste any more time.
"We're lucky that the invasion is slow-paced." Kiya had told her the night she escaped from the hospital, while she was climbing down the window. "You have at least half-a year to gather The Seven Wonders."
"At this rate, everyone will be dead before I even find them." Kaya mumbled, her eyes fixated on her watch. There was no reply from Kiya which was the opposite of what she had expected, so she assumed that she went to do other things. Whatever spirits did.
Kaya took this opportunity to go through what her life has become. Now, she didn't have a permanent home or friends. Since she lost her cellphone, she had now way to contact Mia who most probably thinks that she's dead.
Once more, she dug her hand into her pocket and pulled out what was inside. A candy wrapper and a coin. That was it. She sighed and looked up, just to be greeted by a full moon. There was not a single star in the sky, just like how she had nobody else in her life. During those two weeks, she wished that she was normal. She wished that she wasn't the guardian of The Seven Wonders. She wished that she died in that fire, along with all the innocent children and nuns.
She wished that he, her protector, never left her.
She wished that she wasn't alone all her life.
As she adjusted her watch, she noticed something. First of all, it was really dark but there were still a bunch of guys riding on skateboards. Second, there were no cars on the road, which was strange because she was in a city. Lastly, her watch was glowing. It wasn't the regular purple glow that her watch always had. Instead, it was glowing bright blue, almost white and staring at it for a while made her eyes ache. She didn't know if the color of the glow being the same as one of the gems was relevant but she was glad that she was finally nearby one of the bearers.
"He's nearby." Kiya suddenly said, making Kaya jump. "Just keep looking."
"I already am." Kaya said, turning corners based on how the glow was fading in and out. "Which gem is it? Also, where the hell were you?"
"I was visiting someone." Kiya said with a tone that said her answer was final so Kaya didn't question her any further. Still, she wondered, whom, a dead person would visit.
"I can't tell which gem it is. This bearer, I think he isn't aware of his powers, just like the others."
"So I have to figure it out then." Kaya mumbled, fully aware that Kiya could hear her and continued walking. Now the glow was extremely bright, as if she was standing in front of the bearer.

Tbh, even though much hasn't been known yet about Kaya's life, for example, her parents, or where is she from or anything at all, I still kind of feel bad for her actually. Imagine on an usual day in the orphanage, suddenly an unknown creature attacks it and all of a sudden, all those people you used to live with are all dead. and then as if on cue, you also find out there is this unknown alien planet out there and you've been assigned as the guardian of some wonders you don't even know the gender of or are they even human at all. it's so sad actually.
