Episode 15

Carla woke up early and got ready as her father would pick her up to go to Manuel's law office together. Around 9 in the morning, Antonio knocked on the door.

"Hello father, you're early," Carla said, kissing his cheek.

"Hello princess," he replied. "I wanted to pick you up so we could have breakfast together."

Carla smiled and let him in.

"Of course, let me grab my bag and we can go." Carla went upstairs and returned in a few seconds.

Antonio felt relieved seeing his daughter in better spirits as he had a restless night thinking about it.

The two set off towards a shopping center where they had breakfast before heading to Manuel's office.

...

Manuel.

After dropping off Carla at her house, I headed straight to mine. I needed to relax because seeing Carla so affected bothered me.

I know what you're thinking, but I had unintentionally developed feelings for her. I felt the need to take care of her, and each of her tears caused my heart to ache. I also know I should let her solve this issue on her own, but I can't stay completely out of it. I'll be there for her whenever she calls or needs me by her side.

I know all of this could end badly, and I also know the chances of establishing a relationship with her, well, not right now. She needs to heal first.

Two days passed, and I still hadn't heard from Carla. The truth was, I was desperate to know about her well-being. I needed to know she was alright.

When I arrived at my office, my desk was piled with work. I focused on accomplishing as much as I could to distract myself from her, even if only for a few minutes. I was so absorbed that when I heard a knock on the door, I got startled.

"Come in," I authorized without lifting my head.

"Excuse me, Doctor, but someone is looking for you," my secretary said.

"Who is it?" I said, looking up.

"It's Dr. Antonio Montiel and Mrs. Carla Montiel, your daughter," my secretary replied.

I jumped up in that moment. I had been waiting for two days to hear about her, and finally, I would see her. But she wasn't alone; her father was with her.

"Please ask them to come in," I requested.

I adjusted my suit and waited for them, standing up. Mr. Antonio was an extremely intimidating man, not to mention his height. If I remember correctly, we are the same height. Besides that, he was a legend in the courts.

"Welcome," I said when they entered my office.

"Thank you," they replied.

Mr. Antonio shook my hand with a smile.

"Pleasure to meet you, Antonio Montiel," he introduced himself.

"The pleasure is mine, Doctor Montiel. I'm Manuel Castañeda, at your service," I introduced myself.

"Thank you," my future father-in-law replied.

"Hello Carla, how have you been?" I asked her.

She smiled at me.

"Hello Manuel, I'm fine, thank you for asking. I hope I'm not bothering you," she said.

"Not at all, please, have a seat. How can I assist you?" They sat on the sofa, and I took a seat in front of them.

"My daughter told me you're helping her with her divorce," Mr. Antonio said.

"Yes, I imagine you want to know how the process is going," I said.

He nodded, and I immediately called Marcos, who arrived promptly.

"Come in," I said when I heard a knock on the door.

Marcos entered, it was evident he had rushed. I know how much he admires Dr. Antonio Montiel, so he must have hurried when he heard he was here.

"Permission to enter," Marcos said with a wide smile.

"Come in, Marcos. Let me introduce you to Dr. Montiel, Carla's father." Marcos approached and extended his hand, which was immediately shaken by Carla's father.

"Pleasure to meet you, doctor. It's a pleasure to know you," Marcos said.

"The pleasure is all mine, young man. What's your name?" the older man asked.

"Marcos Londoño, at your service," Marcos said excitedly.

Marcos sat with them and briefed them on all the details. He had been investigating Mauricio's assets, as well as his recent transactions over the past four years.

While they conversed and examined documents, I focused on organizing some files for a case I was working on.

"What are you working on?" Carla asked.

The truth is, I didn't feel when she approached me, but I loved having her close.

"I've just taken on a case. Do you want to help me?" I asked.

She smiled with excitement.

"Of course," she said.

That's how we spent the rest of the morning. Carla is an excellent woman, and she works wonders. She noticed details that I hadn't, which will help me win the lawsuit. After that, she and her father left, and I was left yearning to kiss her sweet lips.

...

Antonio dropped his daughter off at Alexa's place before heading to his law firm. He knew he had to take charge until Carla felt better.

"Good afternoon, Dr. Montiel," the employees greeted Antonio.

"Good afternoon," he responded. "Is Dr. Mauricio in?"

"No, sir. Dr. Mauricio hasn't shown up for two days," an employee replied.

"Okay, I'll be in his office. Please bring me all his pending files," ordered Antonio.

Upon hearing Antonio's command, everyone began to murmur. Since Mauricio and Carla got married, Antonio rarely showed up at the firm. Everyone thought something had happened.

Several days passed in which Mauricio didn't show up, and Antonio took care of everything in his place. The joke about Mauricio's absence spread throughout the firm, leading many to draw their own conclusions.

Mauricio had locked himself in a hotel room, where he drank until he blacked out. Sofia and her parents tried to locate him, but he kept his phone turned off.

Meanwhile, Carla was eagerly waiting for news from him. She wished for everything to end soon, and it all depended on Mauricio, on him accepting the divorce settlement and signing it. But more than two days had passed, and he still hadn't given a response.
