Jazmin spent the entire night thinking about the job that man would offer her. She was very nervous.
"What's wrong, Jaz?" said Cristi softly, looking at Jazmin looking at her phone.
"Nothing, Cristi, everything is fine. How are you feeling? You look more tired and thin," Jaz said, noticing Cristi's dark circles and weight loss.
"I'm tired, but I'll be okay. Don't worry anymore, please," Cristi said, laying her head in Jazmin's lap.
"Don't worry, I'll get the money for you to go to the hospital. Just take your medicine and I won't go to work today. I'll stay here with you," she said, tears in her eyes as she stroked Cristi's curly hair.
The next morning, Cristi was still sleeping, so Jazmin didn't wake her up. She went to the bathroom, took a quick shower, combed her hair, and left the house. Her hands were sweaty, she was very nervous, but it was her chance to get a job and receive free medical attention for Cristi.
Upon arriving at the corporation, Jazmin paused for a moment to look. It was truly imposing, with large windows and a luxurious appearance. She entered the building, stepping onto the white marble floor. The place was already bustling with people walking from one place to another.
"May I help you?" said the receptionist, snapping Jazmin out of her thoughts.
"Oh, sorry, I have a 7 o'clock appointment with Mr. Conner," Jazmin replied.
"Please register and go up to the top floor. I've already announced your arrival," the receptionist instructed.
"Thank you."
Jazmin nervously got into the elevator with other people. The building had many floors, and one by one, people started to get off until she was alone in the elevator. The doors opened, and a tall, blonde woman spoke to her.
"Miss Lopez, Mr. Conner is waiting for you."
"Yes, thank you," Jazmin said in almost a whisper. She walked towards the large black door, and the woman closed it behind her.
Jazmin looked at the man sitting behind the desk and felt her heart pounding like she was running a marathon.
"Please have a seat," he pointed at the chair in front of him.
Jazmin sat in silence, just gazing at the man in his black suit, shiny black shoes, and penetrating gaze.
"Well, Jazmin, as my brother told you, I have a job proposal for you. But before I say anything, I need you to sign this confidentiality agreement. Anything discussed here cannot be disclosed or it would be considered a crime, understood?"
Emilio looked at her, and he had already forgotten how beautiful and sexy she was. He was so eager to make her his own, and that's exactly what he would do until he got tired of her. She was the only woman who didn't look at him or show any interest in him, and that made him desire her even more.
"Yes, of course, here it is," Jazmin said, feeling nervous.
"Well, Jazmin, I know that you don't have the proper documents to stay in this country, and as a result, you don't have many opportunities to find a good job."
"Yes, well, I arrived here as a child, but I speak English and Mandarin fluently, and I almost finished university with a degree in accounting. I assure you, I learn quickly," she spoke confidently.
"I like that, but I have an offer for you where you can earn a lot of money and also afford your sister's medical expenses."
"How do you know about my sister!?"
"Before offering this, I researched you, Jazmin. I am a cautious man."
"Well, I don't think it's very professional of you," Jazmin said quietly, but Emilio still heard.
"Well, Jazmin, with this job, you'll be able to pay for your sister's illness, as well as all your debts. You'll receive three hundred thousand dollars every three months. The only thing you have to do is marry me, give me a child within a year, and once the year is up, you can go to another country, forgetting about the baby and that you ever knew me," Emilio said, looking out the window.
"Is this a joke? Haha, do you really think you can pay for a wife? And furthermore, do you think I'll just give you a child? I don't know what kind of people you're used to dealing with, Mr. Conner, but you are all crazy. Money has driven you mad," she said, grabbing her bag and standing up from the chair.
"Don't get me wrong, I am lowering my standards for this and don't worry, don't tell me right now think about it but don't take too long because your sister's illness is progressing faster and faster, you know where to find me."
