Jazmin had spent the whole morning and afternoon alongside Cristi in the therapies she was undergoing.
"And where do you know Emilio from?" Cristi asked, smiling.
"Um, from the job I got," Jazmin said, looking at a book nervously.
"Richard says Emilio is a good man, although a little scary," she said, looking at her stuffed animal.
"Well, that's not how I would describe him, but don't worry about him right now. Tell me how you feel," Jazmin said, taking her hand.
"A little better, and I'm happy because now I can be like the other kids, and that would make Mom and Dad very happy," Cristi said.
"They would be very happy to see you like this," Jazmin said, her eyes welling up.
Jazmin looked at her phone and saw several missed calls from Emilio. She was about to call him when the door opened and Richard and Emilio walked into the room.
"Hi, Cristi, how are you feeling? Look who came to see you," Richard said, smiling, somewhat surprised.
"Emilio," Cristi said, smiling.
"Hey, hi, how are you feeling? Are you taking your medicine?" Emilio asked, walking towards Cristi.
Upon entering, he looked at Jazmin seriously, but his gaze changed when he looked at Cristi.
"It's not as ugly as the ones she used to take," Emilio said.
"Well, Richard told me that you will soon stop taking some of them, and in a few days, you'll be able to go home. And you know what? Where you'll be staying, there will be lots of games, and you'll be able to go to school," Emilio said, taking Cristi's hand.
"Really, Jazmin? We'll go to a house with games and I can go to school," Cristi said, smiling at her.
"Well, we'll see about that. First, you need to recover, and Emilio, no, we're not leaving yet," Jazmin said, looking at Emilio, somewhat annoyed.
"Yeah, sure. Well, Cristi, I have to go now, but I'll see you later, okay?" Emilio said.
"Yes," Cristi said, smiling.
Jazmin said goodbye to Cristi, kissing her forehead, took her things, and left the room with Emilio.
"I don't know what you're trying to do, but I want you to stop. Cristi is out of the contract," Jazmin said, walking angrily outside the hospital.
"I'm not trying to do anything. In a few days, we'll get married, and she'll have to live with us. I was just trying to be kind, that's all," Emilio said.
"I know that I'll have to take care of Cristi, but that's something I have to discuss with her, not you. So I ask you not to take liberties that don't belong to you," Jazmin said, getting into the car, annoyed.
"Now we're going to my parents' house. It's a family party, and only close relatives will attend. I need us to agree on what we'll say, so you'll say that you work for the company in accounting. That's how we'll say we met. And my father will want to investigate, so you'll have to do it, and you'll start working every day starting tomorrow," Emilio said, looking at his phone, changing the subject drastically.
"But I have no experience, and even though I only need to pay my tuition fee, I don't think it's enough," Jazmin said, worried.
"Well, you'll have to learn quickly," Emilio said, not taking his eyes off his phone.
Jazmin took a deep breath. Even though she was nervous, she wouldn't show any more weakness to Emilio. This would be a great opportunity for her to work in other companies once the contract was over.
"Let me go home and change my clothes. I won't take long!" Jazmin said.
"No, we're already late, and this way, you'll please my mother even more," Emilio said, looking at Jazmin, who was dressed in something simple.
The whole way, they remained silent. Jazmin was very nervous. Emilio came from a rich and powerful family, and she didn't even know how to eat with proper tableware.
Upon arriving, Emilio got out first, talking on the phone. He opened the door and offered his hand to Jazmin to help her out.
"Just give me a few minutes, then we can go in," Emilio said, walking away, holding his phone.
Jazmin looked at the house. It was massive, with a green garden filled with red and white roses and some sunflowers.
Emilio's driver approached her and said, "Just smile and be confident. That's how you'll win over the family," Brus said, smiling at her to reassure her.
"Thank you."
In that moment, a little girl of the same age as Cristi ran out of the house, shouting.
"Emilio," Clara, Emilio's sister, said, embracing him.
Emilio hung up the phone and hugged Clara, spinning her in the air and giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"Hey, look how tall you're getting," Emilio said, looking at Clara.
"True, right? Who is she?" Clara asked, looking at Jazmin.
"Oh, come here, I'll introduce you," Emilio said.
Clara took Emilio's arm and walked smiling towards Jazmin, who was looking at the flowers.
"Clara, this is Jazmin, my girlfriend," Emilio said with a smile.
"Hello, Jazmin," Clara said, hugging Jazmin tightly and smiling.
"Hello," Jazmin said nervously, hugging her back.
Emilio watched Clara, seeing how happy she made Jazmin.
"You're very beautiful, Jazmin," he said.
"Oh, thank you very much," Jazmin said, blushing slightly.
"Okay, okay, let's go inside," Emilio said.
"Wait, I brought something," Jazmin said, taking out a box with a red bow.
Emilio was surprised to see that Jazmin had brought a gift without him asking for it.
"It's for my mom, she's going to love it," Clara said, taking Jazmin's hand and leading her to the door of the big white house.
