Chapter 4 - The Bully

For me, school is not even the place for learning...

It’s a prison, where criminals are kept as punishment or accused of a crime before their trial. I hate school but I don’t hate education, there’s a huge difference. Thinking about the jealous girls, I start realizing how much I hate everyone and especially school more than before. I was once an invisible and comfortable enough by that, but since I came to school with Ross, everything changed.

Ross parked his car in the wide field right behind the school building. I took the different direction, the farthest way to my classroom, the different direction I and Ross take. It’s been a week, so I am really getting used to it.

“Wait” Ross stopped me, I turn my head mumbling in question “Hm?”

“Come here” he said. Ross is so unpredictable sometimes. What else he wants me to do?

I walk towards him, then he grabbed my shoulders and push me lightly to the front of him without saying anything.

“Just walk in front of me, it’s too far to the classroom” he spoke.

I flared my nostrils, “Hey! Why? I am okay with that.. I don’t…”

“Shut up, walk properly and don’t talk to me” he said strictly.

I rolled my eyes and say “Alright..alright..”

The hallway is crowded with people, but once I pass with Ross behind me, they

immediately take their eyes on us, watching us like a couple of best runway models. This time, nobody dares to glare at me, at least I feel relieved for a while.

The classroom walls are bare and the windows are large. Outside the sky is blue except for a few strands of stratus that trail like aeroplane trails. When I walk inside the classroom with Ross, Kendrick and Jimmy start whistling on us.

Around 2 minutes later, the teacher walks in looking as inspired and bright as the sun. Ms.Hannah is in her good mood today, she used to be very moody.

“Class, let’s start!” she said as she dropped her stack of books on her desk.

Ms.Hannah explains about the life cycle of germs, and the others deeper explanations about it. I turned my head to the back, watching Ross asleep on his desk. I’ve been living with this man for more than a week, he is actually so peaceful while sleeping.

A sudden knock startled Ms.Hannah, she paused as a female student came in. I don’t recognize her, seems like from the class next door.

“Excuse me, Ms.Hannah. May I call Irene for a while? She was registered to a swimming club last week, so I need a word for her regarding to our extracurricular” she is tall, tanned skin with hair tied in ponytail. Ms.Hannah lifted an eyebrow.

The teacher stretched her neck to find me, “Irene?” she confused, “Does anyone name Irene here?” she asked.

Damn, even the teacher not recognize me.

I stood up immediately. But still, I don’t remember registering myself to a swimming club cause I hate depth in the water. It reminds me of the movie called 12 Feet Deep, the most horrifying horror movies for me. Even The Conjuring or Annabelle have never haunted me into my dreams, the 12 Feet Deep does.

As I walked outside the class, this girl seems weird, I feel something bad is going to happen, like kind of my instinct. She didn’t say anything since she brought me out, I peep her name -“Jasmine”. Should I run? Or just pretend I had a stomach ache?

Jasmine paused, we finally arrived at the backyard of the school. She turned around and other 3 girls coming towards me. My heart feels like it is going to explode, the adrenaline floods my system like it's on an intravenous drip -right into my blood at full pelt. I walk backwards few steps as one of them called Candy grabbed my hair and stormed in screaming “Shameless B*tch! Who the f*ck do you think you are?” push me really hard to the ground.

I can’t stay weak but there’s 4 of them, the short haired girl eventually walk towards me, her hand cracks across my face, causing my head to reel sickeningly as it slams onto the ground. When black dots quit covering my vision I am sitting in the middle with the werewolves standing around me, the pain of my bleeding knee causing me to let out a little gasp of pain. I try to stand up and grabbed Jasmine’s hair, pulling it hard as I could, the other girl with braids hit me in the face one more time and I fell to the ground again. I have that courage to fight back, but still can’t beat 4 of them.

“Enough beating her?”

4 of them including me, turned our heads to a guy jumping from the tall fence.

The light brown haired boy from my class, Kendrick.

“If you want to fight someone, find the balance opponent. You will never have the winner if 4 of you beat her alone, that makes you a bully, means..” he walks

closer to the main bully, the girl who brought me out, the one which ponytail

was ruined. “You are a loser” he whispered. She looked down, trembling.

“Go now, or I’ll have to force you to kneel her a sorry” he added.

4 of them run as fast as they could. I watch them running farther, I was still on the ground. Kendrick came over, extend his hand to help me up “Get up, tough one” he said with a smile.

I gave him a nervous smile, “Thanks” but I feel hurt on my cheek, is it swollen? Those btches slapped me really hard at the same place. Kendrick bend a bit to catch my eyes, no, I mean my swollen cheek. He is too close, my heart pumped faster as I caught his dark brown eyes staring at me.

“That btch has beaten you like hell, but.. yea..” he stands straight and shrugs. “You amazed me.. you fight them back” he smiles. I have no words, I am so speechless, still shock of what just happened to me.

“I think I should go back to class”

“Wait” he stopped me, holding my hand. “You want to go back with that face?” he asked. Oh, right. “Let me bring you to the Infirmary instead” he smiles, “Please ma lady?”

I pulled my hand quickly and nod “Okay”

Inside the infirmary, nobody is here, usually there’s an adult female name

Ms.Kartika, the medical intern student that stay with the main doctor inside the infirmary, seems like they have something important to do outside the school.

“Sit here” Kendrick said as he busy looking for the first aid kit from the desk. He seems like know this place very well. Then he took a glass of cold coke, took out the ice and wrap them in a towel.

“Put this on your bruise” he said. Kendrick start rummaging the first aid box, “And let me handle your knee” he poured the alcohol to the bandage and wipe my bleeding knee, it hurts, but I hold it expressionless. Kendrick scoffed, “You are tough” he said.

“Do you come here often?” finally I got the urge to ask, Kendrick seems like a

light boy and he smiles a lot.

He turned his head and smile again, “Yes I am. I was from here earlier before I bought this” he took something out from his pocket and put the chocolate bar beside me.

“You...you bought Snickers? From outside the school?”

Kendrick dropped his knees on the floor, busy dealing with my knee. Well, no wonder he jumped -in through the tall fence to avoid the security.

He nods his head, chuckling delightly “Yes, I bought coke earlier, but I feel lack of something, so I go out and buy Snickers... again” he said with a shrug.

He puts plaster on my knee, “Done!”

I look down to check it, saw a cute pink pig pattern plaster on my knee. I quirked an eyebrow “This is not from the infirmary” I said.

Kendrick smiles with hands on his cheeks. He is cute from up here. “It’s mine. Pigs are cute, right?” I love pigs too. My face warmth itself, “Yeaa”

“Oh..The Snickers! I bought 2 by the way” he rummages his pocket and took out the other pack.

“Nah, for you.. eat this and I’ll deal with your bruise” he added. Kendrick stood up, walking towards Ms.Kartika’s desk and took a jar of cream. I tear the Snickers’ wrapper, honestly I love chocolate too. Kendrick walks towards me with a jar of something on his hand.

I read the sticker on the jar, “Vitamin K?” I asked as he pokes the cream with his finger.

“Here” he leaned his head forward, his eyes are brighter than before, reflected by the sunlight, they are brown and pretty.

He touches my cheek softly, I feel his thin finger touching my skin. I don’t know Kendrick very well, but my heart starts beating fast. I could feel the heat growing in my cheeks. I threw my face away as he paused, he must have seen my face earlier, please stop blushing, please stop!

Kendrick turned back, closing the jar and put it back to the desk.

This is the first time I skip class. He sat down beside me above the steel made bed, medical bed to be exact. We eat Snickers together and chit chat a lot of things. My very first time talking to a boy for more than 10 minutes, “You seems like.. g-get used to it....I I mean the bruises” I stuttered as I took a bite of the Snickers.

Kendrick pulled his tie and unbutton his shirt.

“Eh..wait…” I was surprised, so I covered my eyes immediately.

“This” he said. I was stunned, flabbergasted, amazed, wonderstruck, mesmerized by his physique. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. His body was drool-worthy. He had a chiseled chest and the skin on it was glowing

healthily. His abdominals were sculptured to perfection as his six-packs pop, instantly giving off the impression that he came out of a manhwa handsome character.

My face is flaming red, how could this boy just open his shirt this confidently to a girl?

He snorted a laugh, then I just noticed the bruise on his side hip. “I get used to

the bruises, so I know how to deal with it” I just remember he is the Taekwondo kid.

He buttons his shirt back and I looked down. This is so embarrassing.. I blushed several times to the guy beside me, in mistakes. Damn it Irene.

Kendrick jumped down from the bed, “Gonna speak to Ms.Hannah about you” he said and waved a hand to the air. “O..okay.. th..thanks by the way” I stuttered.

Is this how girls feel in front of hot guys? I never think he is hot, but once Kendrick opened his shirt and I can see brown breads on his stomach, I feel like.. swallowing a rock...

Around 15 minutes later, the bell rang means school is going to have another 25 minutes break. I laid down on the bed, looking through the window, watching the birds chirping above the tree, sunlight slid through the leaves, but then I heard footsteps coming over. When I turned my head, Ross is already there, he is damn suitable as a thriller movie character.

“What?” I asked.

“You said you can deal with it” he said.

I sit up, “They are 4 of them”

“I’ve called dad to pick you up” he said, in front of Kendrick and Jimmy.

Wait... is that mean? They knew? Kendrick and Jimmy knew about our mom and dad? I stretched my neck, they’re smiling to me.

“But..”

He left, with Kendrick and Jimmy catching him up. Kendrick paused a while and turned, “See ya around, tough one!” he threw his hand to the air. “Bye..” I waved my hand awkwardly.
