I opened my eyes to the dark night sky through the open curtain, oh it’s 2 o’clock in the morning. I sit up immediately to click my alarm off.
“Ross?” I called.
In my head, I keep thinking of him judging me that I won’t wake up on time cause I sleep like a pig.
I put out a pointer, poking his cheek carefully. I wonder how he looks like while sleeping, why does he turn his back to me? Hmphh!
“Hey Ross”
No answer.
He just simply move his face away when I poke him. His face is really clean and smooth. Does he use skin care regularly? I heard Korean boy tends to take care their skin very well.
How about mine? Nah, I have terrible skin.. I don’t usually get involved in something like this.
“Ross?”
I poke his chin with my finger again. Meanwhile, without noticing his mouth, he bit my finger and I startled. “OUCH! ROSS?!” I moaned in pain.
Ross starts to laugh, he tossed around now facing me on the bed, “I can’t sleep, so I didn’t sleep since the last time we talk”
My eyes widened, “Really? Can you hike later? And-and without sleep?”
“If I said No, will you accompany me here?”
“Ah… that’s”
“I was just teasing you, it’s fine” he sits up and dropped his feet to the floor, and then he turned his head towards me. I can see his thick eyebags under his eyes. Is he going to be okay?
“I’m gonna make something to eat for us before we leave” he said.
Before he disappeared by the door, he poked his head out from the side of the door saying, “You should take a warm bath, all of us are going to stop by Kendrick’s house. He has Jeep, it’s easier for us to drive up to the cliff”
“Oh.. Okay”
Inside the car, Ross never not allows me to turn the radio on anymore. Sometimes I afraid I ruin his driving concentration, but recently he turned it on himself.
“Why do you turn the radio on? You said you can’t focus while driving?” since I’m getting curious.
“I’m okay” he smiles.
“Really?”
He nods, eyes gazing straight to the empty street. His unintentional actions makes my heart move gracing. I dropped my head to the window. It may have been an inevitable result that these little things makes me happy. Feels like my inside are churning. Hard to believe that Ross could makes me smile like a dumb -*** while thinking of him.
I sit straight, grinning “That means you purposely won’t let me happy that time”
The traffic lights turned red, Ross stopped his car. He leaned his head on the steering wheel, staring at me, his eyebags are thick but he is still handsome. His lips are red like the color of the tomato even in the dark. “But it’s a different story now, isn’t it?” God, he is smiling. He smiles too much, isn’t it?
“Are you.. okay? You don’t feel good just consuming bread?”
I shook my head immediately, “No, no” then I give him the best smile I had, “I’m okay”
PING
The sound of my message tone startled me, I know it must be Kendrick.
Kendrick: Hey, Rene! I heard you are on your way with your brother. I just woke up! Can’t wait to see you, Angel!
I smile and type swiftly replying him with:
Yep… on my way, sleepy head. Did you have a good night?
Kendrick replied me again.
Kendrick: I wish I could have you here with me\~ So you could give me sweet treats when I woke up. PS: Looking forward for it.
Me: Dreaming
Kendrick: Told ya! Gonna dream more of it and I will never give up to get the real one from Angel Irene!
I sniggered. I feel this flutter whenever we talk, either from phone or direct conversation makes me feel the same. Cheerful and silly Kendrick always brighten my day.
Ross sniffed a smile so I tilted my head, “Yes?”
He shook his head “No, Just.. You are so cute while giggling like a mouse”
“Really? What kind of compliment is that...?” I speak in deflated tone.
Honestly, I don’t know what happened to me or what did I do wrong, cause somehow this 2 guys keep on barging into my heart. They make my heart beats so fast. Without a reply, instead, Ross’ hand stroking my head like a kid, but I love it.
About 10 minutes later, we arrived in a huge mansion. I just knew Kendrick lives in such a huge place. Inside the gate, there are a lot of cars parking along the wide space near the garden, I can see a Siberian -Husky coming over to greet us when the door is open. A woman in her 50s came out and welcome us to come in, “Hello, I’m Santi the housemaid here” she introduced.
PING
My phone pinged again, I took it out from my coat, then I found Freya’s text popping up from the screen.
Freya: GOSH!!!!! I’M FREEZING, PAUSING LIKE A STATUE. I CAN’T EVEN BREATH SITTING BESIDE THIS MAN. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I replied her.
Me: Then, how can you text me?
Freya: Heh! Texting isn’t this hard though. I was just wondering how can I stop my heart beating too fast. I afraid he hears it.
Me: You’re too dramatic you know that?
The fall in love poker face lady is really cute while nervous. She is usually flat and sarcastic but when it comes to Jimmy, she became the girl in the edge of her insanity.
Freya: Cih, how arrogant. What kind of friend are you?
Me: I’m asking you to join us, means I am a good friend.
Freya: Did you learn that from me? GOSHH!
Me: More or less, YES.
Freya: Then, heyy.. have you arrived there?
Me: We just arrived.
Freya: HAHAHAH! I heard Jimmy said he has a huge mansion, his living room is as huge as Jimmy’s house already.
Me: Ridiculous!
Freya: We are almost there! Hold on, my friend!
In a while, Kendrick finally came out with only towel around his waist.
I look at him with jaw hanging open, then I threw my face away quickly, pretending to watch the paintings from the wall.
“Hey! Ya! Ya! You have no shame, do you??” Ross protested.
“I have this abs, I don’t think I have to be shy”
Ross clicked his tongue, “Jinjja (really)...”
“Irene has ever saw me like this”
“MWO (WHAT)?” Ross raised his voice as he turned his head towards me, his eyes popped up wide waiting for me to answer.
“I-I-I-I” I stuttered, damn Kendrick. What did you just do? Urgh..
“I’ll prepare myself\~” Kendrick then disappeared from the living room as we heard another noise from the entrance.
At the same time, we found Freya and the glasses boy Jimmy walking inside the house as Jimmy greets us “Hello!” with a very friendly smile.
All of us gathered in the living room waiting for Kendrick to get ready.
“That boy is wasting our time, Ross” spoke Jimmy as he leaned his head onto the couch.
“I don’t know. I wish I could just leave him” said Ross with a shrug on his shoulders. Then, Kendrick appeared suddenly.
“Let’s go!” he said as he run playfully towards the door, “Bye, Santi. Please inform mom and dad, later” he reminded.
The woman nods her head, she is still friendly even though she has to be awake in the middle of the night.
Kendrick hands over the car key to Ross before we get to jump to the Jeep.
“What?” asked Ross.
“You drive?” he pouted.
“NO” Ross strictly answered.
“Pleaseeee”
“Why in the world” he clicked his tongue “Jinjja (really)” Ross finally walks to the other side.
“In one condition, Irene sits beside me” Ross added.
“But why?” asked Kendrick, stomping his feet like a kid.
I look at Ross confusedly, what are they talking about? Why should I sit beside Ross? But I could see the flames in Ross’ eyes.
Kendrick jutted out his mouth and mumbles, “Okay..okay I’ll drive…”
Without answering, Ross passed the key to Kendrick, then Kendrick jumped to his Jeep and I sit beside him on the passenger seat.
I thought I’ll sit beside Freya.. I turned my head looking at her. I can see a very critical looking on her face, then she smirked. She took out her phone and start typing, at some time she looks at me. A few seconds later, I heard my phone pinged.
PING
Freya: Dammit Irene! You got 2 hot guys after you
I clicked my tongue.
Me: Don’t be stupid! Ross is my brother!
Freya: HAHAHAHA! STEP BROTHER! IT’S A DIFFERENT STORY!
I turned my head glaring at Freya. Freya still evilly smirking at me.
During the road trip, Ross doesn’t speak a word. He puts on headphones and fall asleep. Is he a light sleeper? Ah, maybe he is too tired because he hasn’t take any sleep today.
Kendrick hummed a lullaby while the song played on the radio, then he turned his head towards me, smiling.
“Have you eaten your breakfast? In the middle of the midnight?”
“Ah.. yes” I smile sheepishly. Somehow talking to Kendrick became very awkward since I sit beside him like this, even this is the third time already.
“So.. how’s your mom’s opinion about bringing you out with us?”
“Ah, my mom didn’t say anything, she was glad”
Kendrick scoffed, “Is it because I’m joining?”
“No”
“Ah..” he sounds sad.
“I mean I mean because I have never had a friend before so once my mom knew I’m going out with friends, she’s so happy” I said again, trying hard to not hurt Kendrick’s feeling by my lack of explanation.
“I was curious” Kendrick rubbed his chin. “Why do you like be alone? I mean with a face like yours maybe you could have a group of friends like Sierra..” he shrugged.
I chuckled lightly, “Secret”
Kendrick then says “That’s what I like it from you. You are full of mysteries and it makes me thirst of the answer. You know that?” he took a brief glimpse of me.
That makes me kinda speechless and shy....
