Mr.Park and mom fetch me home, Ross stays until the class dismiss.
I laid my body on the bed while mom busy compressing my bruise. It hurts and I want revenge.
“How could they do that to my daughter? I have to talk to the principle about this” mom hasn’t stop splattering, I’ve heard enough.
“Mom, I told you. I can handle it”.
Mom sucked a sharp breath, “Irene, this is called bully..”
“Mom..” I moaned, “Please..” I don’t want to involve mom to my school life, I’m
not experienced in such things but if mom involved, I will be judged as the
f*cking spoiled kid for my entire life. Honestly, I can’t believe I’m really in this kind of situation. How pathetic.
Mom finally nods her head, “Irene.. but every bully..”
I cut her off “I know mom.. I watch and read a lot of bullies” after all, they are just jealous of me coming to school with the famous guy in the school. I can’t tell mom about it, mom will be so upset if I do, she will keeps on blaming herself over and over again.
I blew a harsh breath, “Just.. let me handle it myself. I am a grown up girl mom”.
Mom hugged me immediately, “Promise me mom? You believe in me right, mom?” I repeated.
She nods her head, “Okay okay.. but don’t make me worry like this anymore, okay?”
I pat her back softly “Sure mom. I am strong, remember? Like mom”
Mom giggles “Yea…”
I took a glance of the digital clock glowing in 20:30. Ross wasn’t home when we had dinner. Everyone thinks I am dating my own step -brother while actually I hate that sarcastic prince so damn much. I flared my nostrils, “My school life became so miserable. ARGHH!”
Let’s get back to work!
My eyes gaze back to the computer screen.
knock knock knock
“Mom” I moaned as I turned the chair, “I said I am okay”.
This is the 8th time she pleads to come inside my bedroom. Please mom, I want a quality time my own, the bruise has gotten better anyway.

Is that Mr.Park? but Mr.Park always says something when he knocks the door.

It must be mom.
I moaned “Okay..okay..”, rose from the chair and begin clicking the handle then I saw Ross. The first time he knocks my door. “Oh..” I said, nearly speechless. He didn’t say anything, he lifted his pointer and touch my bruise.
“Ouch!” I whimpered in pain, what is wrong with this guy?
He gives me a jar of something alike with the cream Kendrick applied to me “Take this and get well soon”
“Oh..” I took the jar.
Ross was about to go back to his room, then I said, “Thanks”. Without replying me, he slammed the door close. This guy is so weird.
But somehow this jar reminds me of Kendrick while applying the cream on my face and my heart suddenly beats faster. Irene, what is wrong with you?
I turned around and slammed the door close.

Since the bully, Ross walks me everyday to the classroom, not behind me, but beside me. When Ross busy with his extracurricular activities, Kendrick or Jimmy will walk me to the class. When the class dismiss, Ross waits for me. Unlike the earlier, he will left me if I take too long and I’ll take the bus. Selfish jerk!
“Take a group of 2. You’ll work together as a team, make the most creative handcrafts” Ms.Tina spoke as she starts writing names on the whiteboard.
Everyone has their own friend. I looked back at Ross, but then I saw Kendrick and Jimmy were coming over him. I was thinking about having Ross as my partner, since we live under the same roof, it must be easier for us to discuss even though he rarely talks to me.
Then I feel someone standing in front of me, I turned my head to the front and found the cute pale short haired girl, Freya.
“Wanna set up as a team?” she shrugged, why is she so expressionless everytime?
I nod my head, “Sure” I said. She then moved her chair immediately and sit in front of me. There are some kids about to persuade me, but once Freya seated in front of me, they stopped.
“So… what are we going to do” as she folds her arms on the table.
“Miss!” Kendrick raised his hand.
Ms.Tina stretched her neck to catch Kendrick’s eyes “Yes, Ken?”
“Can you add me to Jim and Ross’ team?”
Ms.Tina shook her head, “No, Ken. You have to take only 1 friend with you”
“But I don’t have any, there are 23 students in our class, that means 1 team should be 3” he calculated himself with his fingers up so Ms.Tina could see it.
Ms.Tina took a deep breath but then she says “Alright, Ken. You, Jimmy and Ross”. The teacher eyes gazing mine, with her marker pointing at me “How about you, Irene?”
“She is with me” Freya turned her head and speaks confidently.
“Okay, good job” Ms.Tina replied.
When class dismissed, Freya running towards me as she called “Hey! Irene!” I turned my head. “Ohh, heyy..” I paused and Ross too.
“When are we going to do the project?” she asked. I was planning to invite her to our house, since I’m tired doing all the stuffs myself. I tilted my head looking at Ross, trying to ask for a better solution but he threw his eyes away. Usually, the other kid who ever grouped with me will never ask me out like this, then I will ended up doing it myself. A lot of kids want to do the same, a group with me is a bless for them.
“Just come to Irene’s. I have no time to drive her around” Ross said.
Is this guy crazy? What should I do if Freya found out?
Turns out..
Freya doesn’t care. Even when she saw Ross in my house, wearing his loose t-shirt and grey sweatpants, his favorite outfit all the time, he wears that 4 times a week. I don’t know whether he has a lot of stock of it, or he doesn’t wash his clothes for the whole 4 days in a week. I don’t understand.
Freya doesn’t ask about Ross, doesn’t even startled by his presence. Is she even a human? How could she be so emotionless? What if the world ends or there are zombies outside the house? What if the earth destroyed by a comet? What if there’s an alien walking in my house? What if there’s suddenly a dinosaur in my backyard? The big one? Does she even care about it? Or she will just poker facing everything she saw in front of her? This girl is extremely unique!

Ross opened the door and then Kendrick and Jimmy jumped in.
“We bought pizza!” they exclaimed .
Freya was shocked. I look at her nervously, this is when she shocked. The first time I saw her in other expression, besides poker face. Her face turned red as chili, trying to hide her face by turning around -facing the kitchen.
“Where are your parents?” Kendrick peep through the hallway. “Eh, hi!” he waved at me. I waved my hand nervously, my heart suddenly beats faster, it somehow reminds me of him poking my cheek and the cute pig plaster that still on my knee since 2 days ago.
“They are not home” Ross said.
Kendrick collapsed on the couch as he tilts his head towards me
“Glad you are here!” smiling widely at me, my cheeks burned hot. I threw my face away, pretend to be busy with the drinks I prepared for Freya. I look at her beside me, frozen in a place and her face blushes red.. Is that mean she likes one of them? Freya angled me, “Let’s go!” she whispered.
“Oh.. okay” I nodded, I immediately take 2 glasses of grass jelly and rushes through the hallways as Freya catching me up with face looking down and her hair covering her face.
Freya helped me open the door and she slammed it close, I put the glasses on the bedside table and Freya was standing in front of the door. Then in a few seconds, she wandered round in daze, not quite sure what to do. Is she panicking of something?
I lift an eyebrow and speak “Freya, are you okay?”
She suddenly acting weird, “Why didn’t you tell me about him? Why is he here?”
I don’t understand, what does she mean? Who?
Freya clears her throat, then she finally sit on the floor “Seems like you are a good secret keeper”. I nod my head, I have no friends anyway, who will I talk to? Even my own step brother ignores me.
Freya leaned over and whisper “I like Jimmy”.
“OH” I was shocked thinking of how she acted in front them.
So that’s how girls act when they are in love. I was speechless, I’m not a good advisor, I’m not experienced. Freya seems like getting comfortable with me. Wait.. does that mean I like Kendrick too? I am blushed everytime I think of him or meet him since that day. But nah.....maybe because it was my very first time a guy looking after me.
She sat by the bedside, leaning her head on the bed. I do the same. “Hey, by the way Irene” she tilted her head. “Do you like being invisible?”
I scoffed, the first time a friend instead of mom asking about my invisible school life. “I-I...love it..m -more that..way...” even though I am still the stuttering mess, at least I tried to make friends with her. Freya clicked her tongue “Why are you still nervous talking to me? I told you my deepest secret already”
I exhales a harsh breath, “Honestly this is the..... first time making friend”
Freya snorted a laugh, the first time I saw her laughing, “Don’t be ridiculous, what a crazy fact of you”. I give her a smile, but it turns out ridiculous for me too, yes I am so pathetic. I laughed, the first time laughing with a friend. Then her laughter turns into a smile, Freya is very pretty when she smiles. “You haven’t answer my question”, in a second she turned into the poker face Freya.
“Oh.. about that” I mumble, my heart beating fast again.
“I know the answer already” she added, “Seeing you become their target, that makes me think the same”
I nod my head, she was right about me.
“But” Freya sit up straight her eyes gazing mine. I still feel confuse and nervous talking to her, but Freya is really kind and funny. I become want to know her more. She pats my shoulder twice, “You need to be strong”
I give her the best smile I had. The first time I got a simple inspirational word from a friend. Am I her friend now?
knock knock knock
I stood up, that wasn’t mom. It’s early Saturday afternoon. I clicked the door open and Kendrick stands smiling.
“Do you mind to accompany me to the DIY shop?” Kendrick spoke as he points with his thumb.
Eh? Why me? My heart starts pumping faster. I feel the warm blush on my face, my stomach tickling.
Kendrick quirked an eyebrow, saying “Please? Ross was too lazy to get a change”
Right, that guy is crazily in love with that sickening outfits. I nod my head, then Kendrick grabbed my hand immediately “Let’s go!” with me mouthing Freya “You can stay here!” and she lifts her thumb.
