The following day, Helena performs her hygiene routine, gets ready, goes down to the living room to have breakfast with her family, and leaves. Helena has her own car, so she went alone. She put the address in the GPS and went to the Gutierrez mansion.
Helena rings the doorbell, a woman who seemed to be an employee opens the door. Helena enters, Otavio comes to her very happily.
Otavio: Doctor, thank you for coming.
Helena: Just Helena, please.
Otavio: Then call me Otavio.
Helena: That's fine.
Otavio: Would you like some coffee?
Helena: Thank you, but I already had some at home. If you don't mind, I would like to meet your son.
Otavio: Of course, come with me. He's in the garden.
Helena follows Otavio to the garden. A handsome man is sitting in a wheelchair, reading. They approach slowly, and Otavio calls to him, but he continues reading.
Otavio: Don't be childish, William.
William: What do you want?... continues looking at the book
Otavio: The doctor I told you about has arrived.
William: Then dismiss her. She wouldn't want to waste her time, would she?
Otavio: Act like a man, William. Don't you think she could be helping other people instead of being here and listening to this nonsense? How embarrassing.
He then turns the wheelchair and looks at Helena. She is wearing a white coat, her hair in a bun, a natural face without any makeup, jeans, and a white printed blouse. William swallows hard but soon no longer cares. He looks her up and down, trying to intimidate her, but she remains the same, normal and calm.
William: Doctor, I regret to inform you that I don't need your help. My father will show you out.
Otavio: William!!
Helena: That's alright... looks at Otavio... can we talk, Mr. William?
William: I don't think we have anything to talk about, Doctor.
Helena: I think we do.
William: Then tell me.
Helena sits on a bench in front of him and speaks softly.
Helena: Mr. William, I came here willingly to help you. I cleared my schedule while there are people who really want help. Let's not waste time. You have a chance to walk again, don't waste this opportunity to do everything you enjoy.
William: Spare me your speech. Do you think I want to live this shitty life? Go back to your patients, you're wasting your time, Doctor. I don't care about this treatment or your patients.
Helena: I won't speak to you as I would to a child. We are adults, but since you have a small mind, I think it's better to speak to you as if you were a child. How can you talk about life like this? We all have problems, and there are people in worse situations than you.
William: Do you know who you're talking to?
Helena: Yes, to an immature man who doesn't want to face his problems head-on. Do you think staying in that wheelchair is helping? No, your heart is beating, you're here talking to me. Your problem isn't going away or being solved.
I gave up my vacation to be here and help you. Your arrogance won't make me leave. Thank God you're alive and can walk again. Apologize for your arrogance and ingratitude. Many people would like to be in your position, in terms of being able to walk again. Now, I'm using your arrogance, so don't waste your time because I'm not leaving.
Don't speak about my patients or life as if it's unfair. You're alive, so live life with intensity.
Otavio, can I use your office?
Otavio: Of course.
Otavio is speechless, William is very irritated because no one has ever spoken to him like this. Her audacity is too much for him. He goes to the office, and Otavio laughs after snapping out of his trance. He accompanies William to the office. Helena is placing some things on the floor, and William grabs her arm tightly, giving her a nasty look. Helena looks at her arm and then at him.
William: Who do you think you are?
Helena: Helena, your physical therapist. Shall we begin?
Helena releases her arm from his grip, he becomes increasingly irritated, even though he doesn't want to, she takes his chair to the center of the room and leaves him next to her. He tries to leave but she locks the wheels, Otavio looks on, laughing. His wife appears and stands beside him, while William grumbles like an old man, making his parents laugh because Helena acts naturally.
Helena asks questions, but he doesn't respond. She smiles as if it were a child's tantrum, she grabs his leg and stretches it. William has nothing else to do, so he sighs irritably.
Helena: Be careful, stress is bad for the heart. I'm going to ask you some questions, I hope you answer.
Helena lifts the leg of his pants up to his knee and touches it with the tip of a pencil.
Helena: Can you feel it?
He remains silent, looking to the side. Helena asks again, but he doesn't respond. She presses the pencil and he looks at her irritably.
William: Are you crazy?
Helena: Excellent, that was a sign that you can feel it.
Helena touches his foot, she touches his toes but he doesn't move.
Helena: Can you feel this?
William: No... he says irritably.
Helena: How about here?... she touches his knee.
William: A little, hardly anything.
Helena: Can you move your hip?
William: A little.
Helena: Okay, let's go slowly. It may be a little uncomfortable, but it's normal. I'm going to help you, Mr. William, but I need you to help me too, otherwise you will feel pain.
Otavio: He will help.
Helena: Today, we're going to do some stretching. Tomorrow, I'll help you get up from the chair.
William: No way.
Otavio: He's in pain.
Helena: You will feel pain, Mr. William, but you need to try. I'll help alleviate the pain and give you some medicine. I can't perform miracles, so you need to help me too.
