Evelina’s POV
Cassian’s words sent a chill through me.
"I want you to help me bring your father down."
I stared at him, my heart slamming against my ribs. “You’re insane.”
His expression remained unreadable. “Maybe.”
My hands curled into fists at my sides as I tried to steady my breathing. The dim light in the warehouse cast long shadows, stretching over the cracked floor like ghosts of the past. Ghosts Cassian refused to let go of.
“You expect me to betray my own father?” My voice was sharp, filled with disbelief. “Because of something you think he did?”
Cassian tilted his head, his eyes dark and unreadable. “I don’t think he did it, dolcezza.” His voice was quiet, but the weight behind it was suffocating. “I know.”
A lump formed in my throat.
“I need more than your word, Cassian,” I forced out. “You say my father was here that night. That he saw what happened. But that doesn’t mean he pulled the trigger. That doesn’t mean he—”
Cassian took a step forward, cutting the distance between us. I refused to back down, even as he towered over me.
“You think I haven’t spent years finding proof?” His voice was lower now, laced with something raw. “That I haven’t dug through every piece of filth in this city to find out what really happened?”
His proximity sent a shiver through me, but I clenched my jaw and stood my ground.
“If you have so much proof,” I challenged, “then why haven’t you killed him?”
Cassian’s smirk was slow, dangerous. “Because I don’t just want him dead.”
The air between us thickened.
“What do you want?” I whispered.
His gaze flickered over my face, something unreadable lurking behind it. “I want him to pay.”
A chill crawled down my spine.
Cassian Moretti wasn’t a man who settled for simple revenge. He was a man who burned his enemies until there was nothing left but ashes.
And now—
He wanted me to be part of that fire.
“I can’t help you,” I said, my voice hoarse. “I won’t.”
Cassian studied me for a long moment. Then he let out a soft, almost amused exhale. “You will.”
His certainty made my skin prickle.
“I won’t betray my father,” I said firmly.
Cassian smirked. “That’s the thing, dolcezza.” He took another step, forcing me to tip my chin up. “You haven’t even asked yourself the right question yet.”
I swallowed. “And what’s that?”
His voice was soft, but his words cut deep.
"What if your father already betrayed you?"
My breath caught.
No.
That wasn’t possible.
I opened my mouth to deny it, to fight back, but the doubt had already taken root.
I thought of the unanswered calls. The secrets. The nights he came home with blood on his hands.
I squeezed my eyes shut, shaking my head. “I don’t believe you.”
Cassian hummed, his tone almost amused. “I told you, dolcezza. I’ll show you.”
I hated how calm he sounded. How certain.
But the worst part?
A small, terrified part of me needed to know.
I exhaled shakily. “Fine.”
Cassian arched a brow. “Fine what?”
“I’ll listen,” I said, forcing my voice to stay steady. “But that doesn’t mean I’m helping you.”
Cassian smirked, as if he’d already won.
“Baby steps,” he murmured.
I scowled, but before I could fire back, his phone buzzed in his pocket.
His smirk vanished.
The shift was instant.
One second, he was toying with me. The next, he was a predator, his entire body coiled with tension.
I watched as he pulled out his phone, glancing at the screen. Whatever he saw made his jaw tighten.
“What is it?” I asked before I could stop myself.
Cassian didn’t answer right away. He typed something quickly before shoving his phone back into his pocket.
“We’re leaving,” he said, already turning toward the exit.
I blinked. “Leaving where?”
He shot me a look over his shoulder. “You wanted proof, didn’t you?”
My stomach twisted.
I did.
But something told me that once I saw whatever Cassian was about to show me—
There would be no going back.

Cassian’s POV
Evelina was stubborn.
I liked that about her.
But she was also naive.
She wanted to believe her father was innocent, that he was the man she thought he was. But she didn’t know the world he lived in.
The world I lived in.
She was about to find out.
I walked ahead of her, not bothering to check if she was following.
She would.
Matteo was waiting by the car when we stepped outside. He arched a brow at Evelina but didn’t say a word.
Smart man.
“Everything set?” I asked.
Matteo nodded. “Yeah. But, boss… you sure about this?” His eyes flicked toward Evelina.
I smirked. “She wants the truth.”
Matteo didn’t argue. He just opened the car door.
Evelina hesitated for only a second before sliding inside.
I followed.
The air was thick with unspoken words as the engine roared to life.
I leaned back, watching Evelina out of the corner of my eye.
She was tense, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.
She didn’t trust me.
Good.
She shouldn’t.
I exhaled slowly.
By the end of the night, she’d either hate me—
Or she’d realize she needed me.
Either way, she wasn’t walking away from this.
Not anymore.
