Evelina’s POV
I barely slept that night.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.
Cassian Moretti. His words wrapped around my mind like a noose, tightening every time I tried to push them away.
"You’ve been part of this game long before you even knew it existed."
"You’re one of the pieces on the board."
"Once you enter my world, there’s no turning back."
I hated how his voice lingered in my thoughts, how his presence felt like a shadow I couldn’t escape.
And my father?
Still no calls. Still no answers.
I tried not to let fear take hold, but the pit in my stomach had only grown deeper.
So here I was.
Standing in front of a building that screamed wealth and danger.
Cassian Moretti’s world.
A sleek black car was parked out front, men in dark suits lingering near the entrance. Not just bodyguards—soldiers.
My heartbeat quickened, but I forced myself to move.
I wasn’t a coward.
If Cassian had answers, I was going to get them.
I walked through the entrance, my heels clicking against the marble floor. The air inside was thick—expensive cologne, cigar smoke, power.
A man at the front desk looked up, startled by my presence. “Miss…?”
“Evelina Devereaux. I’m here to see Cassian Moretti.”
His eyes flickered with something—recognition, maybe even hesitation—but he gave a tight nod. “Wait here.”
Minutes passed. My pulse pounded against my ribs.
Then—
Footsteps.
The air changed.
And I knew before I even turned around.
Cassian.
I faced him, refusing to shrink under his gaze.
He leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, watching me like a hunter amused by his prey. “Didn’t expect you so soon, dolcezza.”
I lifted my chin. “I want answers.”
His lips curled. “Of course, you do.”
He pushed off the doorway, walking toward me with slow, deliberate steps. Every movement, every glance, was designed to unnerve.
And damn him—
It was working.
But I held my ground.
He stopped in front of me, close enough that I had to tilt my head to meet his gaze. “You really are a stubborn little thing, aren’t you?”
I clenched my jaw. “Tell me the truth.”
Cassian studied me for a moment, then exhaled through his nose, as if he’d made a decision.
“Fine,” he said. “You want the truth, dolcezza? Then let’s take a drive.”
My stomach twisted. “Where?”
His smile was slow, dark. “To the past.”

Cassian’s POV
Evelina didn’t know it yet, but she was about to step into the darkness.
And once she saw what lay beneath the surface—
She’d never look at me the same way again.
But that was the risk.
Because if I wanted her to understand, she had to see it for herself.
The blood. The betrayal. The reason I would never let her go.
I gestured toward the door. “Come, dolcezza.”
She hesitated for only a second before walking beside me.
Brave.
Too brave for her own good.
But bravery wouldn’t save her from the truth.
Nothing would.
And once she knew—
There would be no way out.
