I stared at Selena’s retreating figure, my brain frying itself trying to process her words.
"You’ll remember soon enough."
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER?!
I groaned and dragged my hands down my face. "This is too much for my tiny, confused soul."
Emily, who had been enjoying this like it was a drama series, finally spoke. "You know, I’m starting to think your memory loss is a blessing."
I turned to her, offended. "EXCUSE ME?"
She grinned. "I mean, think about it! Past-Lilian was a total flirt! If you remembered everything, you’d probably be worse than Selena!"
I choked. "W-WHAT?!"
Emily nodded seriously. "Oh yeah. You and Selena used to be a menace. Always flirting, always being all lovey-dovey—"
I grabbed her shoulders. "STOP. STOP RIGHT THERE."
FLIRTING BACK WITH SELENA?! ME?!
I refused to believe it.
"Are you sure you’re not making this up?!" I demanded.
Emily laughed. "Nope! In fact, I bet Selena is just waiting for you to go back to your old self so she can have her flirty partner-in-crime again!"

That Night – More Existential Crisis
Lying in bed, I stared at the ceiling, feeling like my soul had left my body.
I tried so hard to remember something—anything—from Lilian’s past, but my brain was just a blank slate.

I walked into school with a plan.
