Chapter 6: The Rival Who Hates Me (But Probably Wants to Date Me Too)
Lily was just starting to feel like she had things somewhat under control when the universe decided to prove her wrong.
Because the moment she left Gabriel and Raphael’s very dangerous presence (and pried Nathan away from his death glare contest with them), she ran straight into her next headache.
"Vanessa Winters."
Lily froze. That voice… That dramatic voice filled with arrogance and annoyance…
Slowly, she turned. And there he was.
Sebastian Laurent.
Mafia heir. Business rival. And, according to Vanessa’s memories, the man who hated her guts.
…Or at least, that’s what he claimed.
Dressed in an expensive gray suit, his silver hair perfectly styled, and his cold blue eyes filled with judgment, Sebastian looked like he had just stepped off the cover of a billionaire romance novel. Unfortunately, instead of sweeping her into a dramatic love story, he was currently looking at her like she was an insect he wanted to squash.
"You," he said, crossing his arms. "I heard you’ve been… changing."
Lily blinked. "Wow. News travels fast in the mafia world, huh?"
Sebastian scoffed. "You expect me to believe that you, the infamous Vanessa Winters, are suddenly nice?"
Lily beamed. "Yes! Personal growth! Therapy! Yoga!"
Nathan sighed behind her. "She’s lying. She just hit her head really hard."
Lily gasped. "Nathan, betrayal!"
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. "So, what’s your new game, Vanessa? What are you plotting now?"
Lily groaned. "Ugh, why does everyone assume I’m always scheming?"
Nathan, Sebastian, and a passing pigeon all gave her the exact same look.
"Okay, fair," she admitted. "But seriously, I’ve changed. I am no longer trying to sabotage Gabriel and Raphael. I am now their number one fan!"
Sebastian flinched. "What?"
Lily grinned. "Yep! I fully support their love! In fact, I’m making it my mission to bring them together!"
Sebastian stared at her. Then sighed. Then stared again.
Then—
He threw his head back and laughed.
Lily blinked. "Uh… what’s funny?"
Sebastian smirked. "You. You’re absolutely ridiculous."
Lily pouted. "Rude."
Sebastian stepped closer, leaning down so their faces were just inches apart. His icy blue eyes studied her carefully.
"Tell me, Vanessa," he murmured. "If you’re not obsessed with Raphael anymore… what’s stopping me from making you my new target?"
Lily choked on air.
Nathan immediately stepped between them, pushing Sebastian back with a glare. "No."
Sebastian chuckled. "Oh? Protective, are we?"
Nathan’s eyes darkened. "Back. Off."
Lily, still recovering from whatever that was, threw her hands up. "Okay, everyone needs to calm down! I am not getting involved in another weird love triangle, okay?"
Sebastian smirked. "Who said it would be a triangle?"
Lily nearly fainted.
