Sweet Vanilla

Kai and Zhi walked into the library, scanning the room for an empty table.

They spotted Rui and Ming sitting at a table near the back.

zhi

(Zhi looks around the room),"Looks like they're already studying."

Rui

"Join us."

Ming

(Ming nods slightly),"I need to find this one book..."

As Kai sat down, he noticed Ming stretching up to reach a book on the top shelf.

The stack of books beneath it wobbled, threatening to topple.

Kai's eyes narrowed, he watched as Ming struggled to catch the falling books.

Just as the books were about to hit ming, Kai's hand shot out, catching them with ease.

For a moment, Kai's hand touched Ming's, their fingers brushing against each other.

Kai's heart skipped a beat as he caught a whiff of a familiar scent - sweet vanilla, the same smell he had noticed on the blazer.

Kai's eyes met Ming's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.

Ming

( a flicker of surprise and gratitude )."Thank you"

Kai's expression remained cold, his eyes glinting with disdain.

As they sat there, the tension between them was palpable.

zhi

"You okay, Ming?"

Ming

(Ming's face is still red),"Yeah... just clumsy."

Rui

(Rui smirks) "You're always clumsy, Ming."

Ming looks down, embarrassment evident.

Ming

(Ming's eyes flicker up to Kai, who is still watching him with a cold expression),"Shut up, Rui."

Kai

(Flipping through his notes, his expression intent but his mind starts to wander)

Kai's thoughts are still on the sweet vanilla scent he smelled earlier.

zhi

(Notices Kai's distraction), "Kai, you okay?"

(Kai blinks, refocusing on the present, his expression doesn't change, but his eyes seem to clear)

Kai

(no response)

Rui

(Rui raises an eyebrow) "Dude, what's wrong?"

Ming

(Looks up from his books, watching Kai with a curious expression)

Kai's eyes meet Ming's, and for a moment, they just stare at each other.

Kai's expression remains cold, but his eyes seem to hold a hint of something more.




