For better or for worse, the day that middle school would start came. Hope was nervously shaking. She didn't want to go.
She started panicking, and then she gently slapped her cheeks. It wasn't the time to be nervous she had to be strong. It was now on her own. She had to stand steadily on her feet.
She went out of her room, and there was only silence.
"Seems like dad is still sleeping. I better not wake him up."
She quietly headed downstairs. She didn't eat breakfast and opened the front door. Her dad was definitely in no condition to drive her to school.
She then saw the bus and realized that it was heading very close to her school. She immediately ran and got inside. It was still early in the morning, so it was almost empty.
She chose a seat and looked outside the window. She put on her earphones and listened to music. After a while, the bus stooped, and a kid went inside.
He was super tall, but Hope didn't notice him since she was looking outside. Before he moved, he looked at her for a second-maybe a bit more, went at the back, and sat down.
The ride was peaceful and quiet. The scenery was nice, too. The bus took some time due to traffic, but it reached the school.
It was decorated with beautiful flowers and had a banner that had written on it" Welcome students".
It was a good school, and kids seemed happy. She got out of the bus quickly, and so did the boy that had sat at the back. He looked like he was also attending that school.
She passed the front gates and saw the ginormous building. She definitely didn't expect the school to be that big. On a second look, though, middle school and high school shared the same space. That was good for the students since they could communicate with their seniors and move to high school more relaxed.
She also thought it was convenient-not that she would talk to someone from there-but still found it quite nice. She looked around a bit and noticed how students were already with their friends.
Hope, unfortunately, moved this summer in this region, so she didn't have anyone. She used to play with the kids of the same neighborhood, but they drifted away after Hope moved.
She sat on a bench and waited for this to end. After some a kid with 3 of his friends also arrived. They looked around, and he landed his eyes on Hope. He said something to his friends and walked towards Hope.
"Hello, are you new here? My name is Lucas." She was a bit taken aback. They didn't know each other, and he obviously had friends.
"Oh, yeah, I'm new. My name is Hope. Nice to meet you, Lucas"
He smiled and sat next to her, not too close, though. He started a small talk, and Hope also slightly opened up. They talked about her moving, and that was her reason she was sitting alone.
"We'll don't worry, from now on we can be friends. If you need something you can ask me."
She felt a bit relieved that she had already found a person who also seemed polite.
"Thank you, yeah. I also would like to be friends."
They both smiled, and then they heard the principal from the speakers. The welcoming ceremony started, and everyone moved towards the teachers.
The principal talked a bit about the school and lastly announced the classes that students would be divided into. After some time, Hope's name was announced, and before the principal stopped at that class, he also announced Luca's name.
"Looks like we are classmates too."
Hope looked behind her and saw Lucas smiling.
"Yep, looks like it, I'm actually glad."
She let put a sigh of relief and smiled. When Hope turned around since the principal didn't finish the announcements, Lucas had a smirk on his face, and then he looked at his friends.
He mouthed at them. "I -W-I-L-L."
What could he mean?
He then turned towards the principal and also paid attention to him.
